What happened

Re: What happened

  • Younguns, I remember when people could smoke in bars.  And I'm a Californian.  We were early banners.
  • HALLELUJAH!  My 2012 calendar has arrived.

My mom kept my dad's last name after the divorce.  I think she briefly considered changing it back but decided it would be too much of a pain in the ass.

  • Chrissy, KY doesn't have a smoking ban, which I always forget about. Ohio has had one since 2006. Right across the river from Cincinnati is Covington, which has a big collection of bars and restaurants.
  • Mica - in college, smoking wasn't banned.  You always smelled like a$$ after a night out.  Now, you can re-wear your jeans the next day!! YAY!!!

Although the lack of smoking means that the smell of stale alcohol and vomit can be more noticeable.
  • KY does not have a smoking ban, although I wish they did. A lot of individual places have chosen that route though, which I love.
  • Kentucky is a Commonwealth, so it's county by county. You can't smoke in bars and restaurants in Louisville, but I'm sure there are some counties that still allow it.

<div>I'm a 26 year old Californian, and even I remember this. I wasn't old enough to go to bars at the time, but I remember when it was banned.</div>
  • Birdie I love you new sig pic.

I love that WI has a smoking ban.  I shouldn't have to inhale secondhand smoke every time I want to go get a drink with my friends.
  • VA just put a smoking ban into effect like two years ago. So like across the river from the freaking White House you could still smoke in bars and restaurants. I thought that was crazy when I moved here.

Although, I'm sure you can still smoke in the White House. You are still allowed to smoke in all the Congressional buildings I think. No one does, but I'm pretty sure it's allowed.
  • KS banned smoking a couple years ago, but MO hasn't.  I always forget when we head to Joplin to go out.

  • Speaking of beer, H and II have a friend who moved here from Philly and he was going on and on about Yuengling beer the other day and how much he misses it. We were thinking of trying to order some online for him for his bday in a few weeks, but I'm not having any luck.

Do y'all know if this is even possible?

  • And I'm pretty sure smoking bans can be city wide and not state wide.
  • Ray, tell him Yeungling is seriously overrated and buy him some good beer.
  • Ray, you can't get it in Texas. They have limited distribution. Ohio just got it in October, so we had to drive to West Virginia to get it for our reception.
  • As an athmatic, i think the smoking ban is the greatest thing ever.  I love not potentially dying at every restaurant.

anna, my friends in VA were talking about how surprised they were that the tobacco state of VA had passed the ban.  (Happily surprised).

Birdie - Mass is a commonwealth and at our homebuyers seminar the other night they kept referring to it as "the commonwealth".  I don't know why but it made me laugh or think or something every time they said it.  Yeah, that was a stupid comment.

    anyway Kentucky!  Where education pays!
  • Brian's mom cheated on Brian's dad and got married to that guy like two weeks after the divorce was final and took that guy's name. They got divorced after I think 3 years.

He is apparently notorious in the area though because people see his last name (as hers) and ask about him and when she says they're divorced they always seem happy to hear it and say he's scum or whatever.

She needs to change that shiit
  • You can smoke in bars here if more of their money comes from booze than food.  Or something like that.  Part of the reason we stopped going to the country bar is because it's always insanely smoky in there, and H's poor little lungs can't take it.

  • Good point, Birdie.

When Ohio's ban went into effect, there was an increase in people skipping out on their bills. They'd say, "Oh, we're going outside to smoke," then take off without paying.

Try going to a craft beer place and asking after good craft brew ales.  If he likes yeungling, a good microbrew might change his life.
  • MP, I think Virginia is a commonwealth too. I personally think all states should be commonwealths :)
  • So I wouldn't be able to order it online or something spec?

Ha Anna, I've never had it, but he seems to love it. I like Mexican beer, which is never in short supply here.

  • I love Anna and Chels posting after each other so I can look at their oddly familiar blog names.

  • I learned just how fast bars can put in a fenced patio when our smoking ban went into effect.  I think they all have them now here, when none of them did before.

</div><div>I forgot this was true in Florida. Most of the bars in Gainesville didn't allow smoking anyway so it was easy to forget. And the one that did was the kind of place you didn't really want to go to unless you were drunk enough to not care about smoke anyway.

Thank you! I don't know why people think that stuff is God's magic juice. It's taste like other mass-produced American beer. I think it's more of the "we can't get it here" mindset.

Thanks! I'm looking now, although I don't know what type of beer it is.

  • My dad LOVES Yuengling and would always get it in Gatlinburg. Well FI goes to get him some only to find signs out that said it was available the next day.
  • I remember when new York put the smoking ban in place. I love coming home from bars and not have my hair reeking of smoke. SC doesn't allow smoking in bars either.

  • Yep, VA is a Commonwealth.
