Re: Hola?

  • It would.  I made Nala some cookies last week with whole wheat flour, PB, and carob chips.  She loves them.

  • I'd like to make treats for vin but he is crazy picky, he shows very little interest in a lot of the treats we get him so I don't know if its worth the bother.
  • Nebb- I make dog treats.  Gia loves them.  They are so easy and cheap to do.

  • Good Afternoon! I make our dogs home-made peanut butter biscuits. I even bought bone shaped cookie cutters so they look like dog biscuits. Yeah, because the dog notices.

I meal plan too. Mainly to avoid food waste. Since it's just the two of us, a lot of recipes only use part of something. So I know which recipes go well together to use up the ingredients. I also keep a few frozen things in the house (ravioli, soup) for if we don't feel like "cooking" if I get home late or something. That helps prevent the whole "I don't feel like cooking, let's go out to eat"
  • Anna - Chia seeds are AWESOME. Unlike flax their nutrition value remains through heating, so I put them in all my oatmeal and and muffins/bread/loafs.  I will have to look up the benefits but I know that from my experience they help me with cardio workouts, anything that I need lots of energy for.

  • They are a whole protein and high in fiber. Most of what I have found sorta needs to be taken with a grain of salt since it is really just advertisers trying to sell their product. k, this is straight out of wikipedia but:

In a one ounce (28 g) sample, dried chia seeds contain 9% of the Daily Value for protein (4g), 13% fat (9g) (57% of which is ALA) and 42% dietary fiber (11g), based on a daily intake of 2000 calories.[8] The seeds also contain the essential minerals phosphorusmanganesecalciumpotassium and sodium[8] in amounts comparable to other edible seeds, such as flax[9] or sesame.[10]

  • Oh, and Anna...here is a link about chia and running. I started using it when I was training for my 10k.  LINK

I buy mine at the grocery store in the health food section. But our store has a huge health food section. They taste like nothing. I add mine to my yogurt and granola, my smoothies, my pre-workout oats (steel cut oats and quinoa mix), my muffins and loafs. If you are used to 'grainy' breads/foods you won't notice any difference at all.
  • Oh, and I use whole seeds not ground chia.  They blend into my smoothies enough that I can't tell the are there.

Awesome!  Thank You!  How much can i get away with adding to yogurt/smoothies without making them too gritty?  A tablespoon goes a long way I think.

My organic/health market has them available in bulk bins.
  • Hmmm...I'll have to check the other grocery store, they have a bigger selection of that sort of stuff.  I bet they have them.  That's a lot of fiber!  I'm a little nervous about where my fiber will come from now, so that would be helpful.

I've been doing the benefiber additive but yeah, this seems like a much better deal.  If you can't find it in your store, I could always send you some.

DH uses them in his cereal every day. I use them when I remember. You can eat them by the spoonful or add them to yogurt or cereal, etc.. I found they were cheaper at the grocery store, then GNC.

That's what I use for now too, and I really like it.  But my doctor thinks I might actually have Celiac, not just an intolerance (wtf body?), and it says "less than 20 ppm" re: gluten, which means that if I DO have Celiac, I'll have to not use that at all either.  So fingers crossed that it's just an intolerance/allergy/sensitivity.

Thanks for the offer!  I'll let you know.  I'm sure I'll find it somewhere, if not at the other store, then maybe TJ's or Woodmans.

  • Anna - I use a 'spoonful' of the spoon that comes in my chia tub. I think I bought this tub at Costco actually.

J&K...I have been using Greens+ to get my fiber...although I can't find any information about how much fiber it provides...I bought the natural watermelon flavour thinking I would drink it with water but I find it gross. I just put it in my smoothies.

This is the one I bought:

    Hello and Good Afternoon ladies!

I just got back from running 6 miles. It took me 1h 10m, but it feels good to have it over with this early in the weekend (my longer runs are on the weekends). I figure, if I can keep that pace, I'll make my goal for my half marathon in February, with a small window of time leftover if I need a bathroom/water break. I did notice these little blisters on my feet after today's run, right where my toenails meet the front fleshy part of my toes (sorry if that's TMI) which concerns me since today's run was only half as much as I'll be running next month. I don't know what to do about those. They're not pretty.

Also, funny story: H was trying to set some rat traps in our attic above the laundry room this morning. He was standing on a step stool, slipped, snapped the trap on his finger and got peanut butter everywhere. I couldn't stop laughing.

  • I should add: I use Greens+ as a supplement...I eat whatever I want really, nothing is 'cut out', so I am sure I get at least a decent amount of fiber from my general diet. I use it more as an 'extra'.
  • Ooh, we're getting a Costco soon.  I'm super excited!

    Interesting...

  • Mehg, do you wear cotton socks, or synthetic running socks?  If you wear cotton socks, I'd try switching to running socks first.

<div>Ditto. I had to wear 'running' socks when running. I still got some blisters on longer runs (which aren't that long for most people - but long for me, anything over 7k!) but it made it way more comfortable.</div>
  • I wear Nike running socks. I think they're a cotton/poly blend or something. I have a feeling a trip to Runner's Depot is in order.

  • Sometimes you just can't avoid them.  No matter what shoes, boots, socks, etc I wear, I always get a blister on the side of my right big toe when I'm running, walking or hiking more than a few miles.  I pad the area with moleskin now if I know I'm setting out for more than an hour or so.

I'm back - thanks, Nates.  I'm really enjoying Pinterest.  And I must say that my TK friends post the most awesome stuff.  I'm always repinning what you guys post.

I saw chia seeds today in the bulk section at Sunflower Market.  I'll have to get some next time to add to my smoothies.  I put flax meal in my bread, but not smoothies.  I'm always looking to up the fiber and nutrition content.
