In honor of it being three years yesterday (my birthday) of my meeting FI, I wonder how long did you wait to get engaged and or married.

I had someone tell me that getting engaged after two year and a few months was too quick.

FI and I dated for 1 year 10 months before we got engaged. We are having a 14 month engagement though and will get married 2 weeks shy of our 3rd anniversary (not because we thought we needed to wait longer, just because we only have nice outdoor weather here in the spring or the fall and the spring was too soon to try to plan a wedding for us)

We moved in together at about 2.5 years and got engaged after just over 3 years. We were married about 7.5 months later.

We dated for 3 years 9 months, when we marry it will be 4 years, 10 months

My sister dated my BIL for 6 weeks, they were married at 8 weeks. That was over 13 years ago and they have no regrets.

Let's see...we got engaged 1 year, 1 month and 10 days(ish?) after we met. We got married one year and a little less than a month after that. So when we got married we'd known each other/been dating for 2 years and 2 months-ish.

We were together for 7 years before getting engaged and 8 years when we got married.

We made our committment to each other a long time ago, though. Just never made it official. I think 2 years is plenty of time to have been dating before getting engaged.

Our engagement came about two years and 7 months after we started dating. Our marriage will be five years and 8 months after we started dating. We've had a craplong engagement due to lots of complications regarding speedskating and art history, as you all know.

We were matched on eHarmony and emailed/spoke on the phone for a month before meeting. We got engaged five months after meeting, got married ten months after our engagement.

Fast, I know, but we were in our mid-40s and were pretty sure about what we could and couldn't live with, so it didn't take too long to figure out we wanted to be together

Married: 4 years 5 months

We were also long distance for the first 2 years (like, on the same continent for 5 months total during that time) and then moved in together as soon as I came to Chile, so after 2 years.

I think timing depends on the relationship and where you are in life. For us, we waited the amount of time we did because we knew we wanted to be together but were young and also realized we should probably spend some time actually in the same place before we made things 100% official

Engaged: 2 years, 2 months. The day he proposed was also the day we closed on our place ... so we also bought property together after only being together for 2 years.

Married: Just 2 weeks before our 4th dating anniversary.

We also were good friends for 2 years before we got together.

We dated 2 months before I moved back home.
4 months before we got engaged
and it will be one week shy of a year when we get married.

I agree with emily. It really depends on where you are in life. We had both been it serious enough relationships to know exactly what we were looking for. I never took the saying seriously, but he is my perfect other half!
