So, do you believe?

Re: So, do you believe?

  • I believe there is life on other planets in other galaxies.  It's overwhelming to even consider how huge space is, so there's no way we could assume that we're the ONLY planet that has life on it.  This doesn't mean human life, but if you look at the crazy things that live in our own oceans and in the ground, it just goes to show that "life" can be anything, not even close to resembling the human or animal form.

Now do I believe that they have UFOs and come to our planet?  Not as much.  It's possible though, but I think it's unlikely given how big the universe is and how long it takes to travel that far and a million other reasons.

  • Without having read the article yet, I'd say that I definitely think there are other forms of life out in the universe, I think it's awfully conceited to think we're the only ones.  I don't necessarily think they're little green men who want to anal probe us.

Now I'm off to read the article...

  • I can't straight up say "Yup, I believe in aliens."

But I can't really say that I don't believe in them either... the universe is just way too big, ya know?

  • Yeah, I tend to think most UFO sightings are military operations.  Who knows what kind of crazy secret shiit they're up to!

  • It's possible. When you consider how old the universe is, there's a possibility that there's another civilization, far older than ours, that has the technology to travel distances that vast. I'm not saying I believe every single person, or country, as the case may be, that says they've seen a UFO, but I think it could happen. And according the Stephen Hawking, if there are aliens visiting our planet, they probably don't have peaceful intentions.

  • Yeah, I do.  I think it's ridiculous to think that ours is the only planet in the vast universe that has life on it.  I even think that we likely aren't the most intellectually advanced life out there.  It's completely possible that life from other planets has visited Earth.

  • I believe in being open to anything that hasn't been explicitly disproven.

I took a psych class about UFOs and alien abductions. It was very interesting, albeit biased. The professor retired and moved to Roswell and taught this class online.
For those that do believe that abduction happens, there is a theory that "aliens" aren't from different planets, but rather different dimensions, which is why they appear to move through solids and time is distorted.

For anyone that is interested, there is a book called "Communion" that is supposedly true, and details a man's life long abduction experiences.

  • Random fact- The Vatican has the largest compilation of books, documents, etc. regarding extraterrestrial life in the world.

I don't believe in aliens, like little green men, but I do think there is life out there. It would be extremely selfish to believe that we are the only ones.

I do believe in ghosts. I can't explain why, but it's just a feeling that I have. Too many people claim to have seen/heard/talked to ghosts for it to be not real.

ETA: I realize this could be said for aliens too, but people who can physically describe a ghost and find out that person died where they saw them and that's exactly what they look like is just too coincidental.

  • FI completely believes he's seen a UFO. He's been to Rachel, NV, right outside Area 51. He listens to a UFO radio program every week. Yup.

I think there's life on other planets, but I'm much more skeptical of "intelligent" life. Bacteria and other microbes, possibly things like insects and small animals though, sure.

  • The descriptions I read aboout were not little green men. They were much more disturbing. There are actually several different types that people report seeing- including one that resembles a giant praying mantis.

Abduction stories share common details across cultures. Strange things, like metal tables that have no legs, but are rather suspended in mid-air.

  • Sorry to thread jack but has anyone watched The Fourth Kind?

And yes I believe that there is some kind of life form not from our planet.

  • After watching Morgan Freeman's "Through the Wormhole" series, I can believe anything. If you haven't watched it, I suggest you do. It is very interesting. We saw one the other day that contended that we were all aliens and that there is a whole different biology/life force that we aren't aware of. I don't remember the exact words, but it is definitely thought provoking.

I believe in ghosts as well.

  • I believe. We know so little about the Universe, I think it's really crazy to even *think* we're the only very intelligent life out there.

I also am pretty sure I once saw a UFO. (gulp)
  • MissLeah, I did and I didn't really like it. I ended up turning it off about halfway through.

    So share your story knitti!

  • My H is very much into astronomy. He's considering getting a second bachelors in astro physics. He's the most cynical person I know, and he is even open to the possibility of aliens.

Even if abductions don't actually happen, that means there is a universal psychological experience occuring.

  • I believe in Aliens and think they have definitely come to check us out. I think their technology is light years ahead of ours since we are a relatively new species. As for the reasoning of why they would come her, I have no clue. I think they want to study/learn about us much like we want to learn about other planets. We just don't have the means to visit them.

  • Every culture has reports of abduction experiences. People in Africa are reporting the same things as people in Arkansas. There aren't the cultural differences one would expect. 3rd world countries and advance coutnries share the same stories.

So, if people aren't being abducted, they are having a psychological experience. Something in the human mind is creating the hallucinations (?) with very specific and strange details. If a person could explain these experiences, we'd likely learn a lot about the human mind.

  • I haven't read the article yet, and while so far we haven't found life on other planets, that doesn't mean that there couldn't be. There COULD be life on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune, but we'll never know, not only because of how far & cold the planets are, but because we don't have the capabilities to get past their atmospheres, but who's to say that there isn't some form of life beyond those atmospheres.

But I will say that I don't believe in UFOs. I just can't get on board with that.
  • I'm an alien.

  • Our current science says that life cannot exist on other planets because of inhospitable atmospheres, but that only means that they are inhospitable to our biology. There could be organisms that do not fit into our biological framework. There could be other sciences and particulate matter relationships that we are not aware of, because we can't see them or study them. All we know about is the science of this planet.
