Where is everyone?/Afternoon chit chat

Re: Where is everyone?/Afternoon chit chat

  • That's pretty much it AATB. I hate to do it, but JFC, do they HAVE to be that way?
  • I cannot wait for our fair. I love the rides, the cheese fries, the elephant ears, the rodeo...all of it. I will gladly put on my wranglers, boots, and button up.  My mom is part of our sheriff's crew so she gets to ride her horse around the fair and direct parking/look for lost children. It's fun.
  • I don't know Snippy :( I mean, you'd think putting shoes on your toddler and not letting him play in the dirt at the dogpark would be common sense.  HOWEVER... perhaps common sense does not always come so easy?  FFS I JUST DON'T KNOW.

  • Ah, Fairs. The ultimate people-watching experience.
And fried food. On sticks. Mmmmm.

It's naptime for this old gal. It's too hot to think. Have a good one!

  • God I wish I still fit in my wranglers.  I still have them in my closet, but I probably wouldn't be able to get them past my knees now.

We're about a month out from the fair now, and I can't freakin' wait.

They started having this red velvet funnel cake with a cream cheese glaze last year, and it is far superior to normal funnel cake.

Though they also started fried butter on a stick.  My arteries choked up even writing this.

I have considered getting this t-shirt though.  It's sadly true*.

ETA.  Not so much true, but could be accurate...

  • I can hear them shouting at each other too. It's almost 10pm, btw. if I could, I would move out of this building. They piss me off like no one's business.  I mean, do whatever you want to do, i don't care. But don't infringe on the comfort of others. They smoke in the elevator and are constantly screaming. UGH.

Yuck. I've been watching old episodes of Mad Men with FI and watching them smoke in elevators and planes and while holding their infant is so bizarre.

  • I love fairs...we have the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year. It goes on for weeks. Carnival rides, rodeo stuff and best of all fried stuff on sticks. Oh, and turkey legs. Even better...chicken fried bacon, and margaretas in these plastic cups that are about a yard long.

They also have fried butter. I don't know if I want to eat a hunk of fried butter. How the hell do you fry butter, anyway?  Fried pickle slices are awesome, as are fried oreos. But fried butter?
  • Apparently they make fried beer too. I find that strange.

[QUOTE]The fairs here are scary. We don't go, lest we be shot. But man, when I lived in Iowa? They had a festival called Steamboat Days and it was awesome. That's how I saw Kenny Chesney and Poison twice. Love.

  • Red velvet funnel cake = foodgasm.  Butter on a stick though, completely nast.

  • We saw Kiss at last years rodeo. Sadly it wasn't the original gang, but they were still good.

How on earth does one fry beer?
  • Afternoon, everyone!

I'm pretty vain about my hair and makeup and..everything, really. I love my hair stylist, I came back to my hometown every few weeks during college because I wanted to continue going to her. She's great at coloring blonde hair - not everyone I've encountered is good with blondes.

The Fair in our area is kind of sketchy. I've gone maybe one or two times in the past several years and always felt a little creeped out. The corn dogs and funnel cakes are, of course, superb...so I don't complain too much when I'm there.

I've still never been to the MO state fair, but I kinda want to. If only for the people watching alone. Its only like 70 minutes from here, but it's also a month before the wedding, so I kind of doubt it's going to happen this year.

    Fried beer sounds odd.

  • I can't wait for the fair back home in October. I feel conflicted though, because on the one hand I want to stuff my face with all the gloriously delicious fair food and not care how  bad it looks. On the other, I have to be professional.

Ooh, Crazy, Stupid Love is on. Sweet.
  • We have a Steamboat Days in IL, too :)

Our Fair is creepy, but there are tons of local festivals that are a blast. Pumpkin festival, cherry festival, turkey festival, apple festival....etc. The Pumpkin one is the BEST. Pumpkin ice cream is incredible.

  • The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is an awesome venue for people watching.

    And crawfish pies. And beer.
  • The local burger place here has fried pickles. I've never tried them, though I've been tempted. Now I want a hamburger.

  • There's a place in FL that we go to a lot when down there with fried pickles. My mom adores them, but I hate regular pickles so I figure having them fried won't make me like them any better.

Fried beer is disgusting.  They take beer and put it in a ravioli shaped pasta, deep fry it and then serve it with nacho cheese.  The beer is warm and disgusting and even nacho cheese can't save it.

Fried pickles are incredible. I love pickles.

Our fair back home is creepy, the fair up here is much better, but DH is a city boy through and through and won't go to the fair with me.

  • Some things are just not meant to be fried.
  • I'd be all over fried pickles if I found some.  Fried beer and fried butter, not a chance.

And this may be an UO, but I hate rodeo's.  I don't mind barrel racing, but pretty much every other event pisses me off.

  • Fried beer sounds pretty gaggy.
