Question about cruise ship weddings

Re: Question about cruise ship weddings

  • I hate the idea of getting on a cruise ship in the first place. You couldn't pay me to go to a cruise ship wedding. It just seems a little obnoxious, like you want to cheap out so you "trick" your guests into paying their own way? Ugh, dislike.
  • We chose a cruise wedding for multiple reasons.
    A.  I actually said to my fiance "I want to get married in all seasons"--seeing all the awesome decorations/ideas get me really excited, well, now we will cover 2 of the 4, our wedding will be in St. Thomas in December (Summer) and our reception will be after we get back in Iowa, so i'll get the winter look as well.

    B. Cost- We don't have that many people that we are extremely close to so we don't feel the need to pay for a wedding and sit down reception for people we MIGHT see once a year.  I also cannot see myself paying $10,000+ for one day of our lives.

    C. Simplicity-  I am a simple person, I don't like extravagance and would not like decorating for one day, let alone paying for those decorations.

    D.  Family-  My fiance literally has 2 family members, one which lives across the country.  We would all rather just spend a week together, it's not like a cruise ship isn't big enough to get away from them.

We have told everyone that there is no hard feelings if they can't make it for any reason.  Right now we only have our immediate family going and that is just fine with us.  We will be having an "open house" reception when we return for those who can't make it.

All in all, our wedding will cost roughly around $5,000 including our cruise, airfare, wedding and a wedding planner.  I'd rather spend a week with my in-laws than spend an additional $5,000 on one day.
