So I know religion is considered taboo to talk about, but I feel like we have so many girls on here who are open about it that I would bring it up. (Plus, I watched the Kardashians last night and was intrigued by Scott's newfound interest in his own religion...)

IF you feel like sharing, what religion are you?
Is your Fi the same religion?
How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)
How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?

Heavy questions, I know, but just feeling a bit curious.

IF you feel like sharing, what religion are you? Catholic

Is your Fi the same religion? He's just Christian. He's not very religious and I feel like his family just picked a church to go to and aren't really that religion

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) I've been pretty agnostic/atheist lately so I don't practice much. I go to mass when I go to my parent's and my mom makes me but I love Christmas Eve mass

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? FI and I both aren't very religious. We will not go to church much and we will not baptize our kids most likely

Is your Fi the same religion? nope, just Christian
How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) We do not attend church, but we would like to. I think we might try the Church that his parents go to. We will see.
How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? I would love to bring my kids up in a church.

IF you feel like sharing, what religion are you? I'm a taoist.
Is your Fi the same religion? Nope, he's a buddist.
How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) My religion, and my FI's, we don't really have a church or anything, it's really just more lifestyle preferences.
How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? Some of my family and some of my FI's family is religious (neither sides share our beliefs). Later on when we have kids we'll probably do what our parents did for us which was celebrate christmas and other holidays but then be able to learn about other religions and chose which to follow based on their experiences in life and own beliefs/ideals.

What religion are you? Methodist

Is your Fi the same religion? He is now. He was raised Lutheran but hadn't attended church after his grandma died until we started dating. He joined earlier this year because he felt very welcome in our church from the very first day he walked into it. He wants to raise our future children in the same religious environment and I have to admit that statement alone made me fall in love with him all over again.

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) Both of us are very involved in our church, we attend a weekly Bible Study that actually is meant for college students but it kind of turned into a bunch of the alumni sticking around, volunteer, prayer group at work for me and reading the Bible not nearly as much as I should.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? It is very important to both of us. I was raised in my church and we plan on doing the same thing with our future children. I've never not known that my church family and God would be there for me and I want that same feeling for our children.

Is your Fi the same religion?He's also Catholic, we both made all the sacraments and are marrying in a Catholic church
How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)Honestly, we're too busy with life to make room to attend mass regularly. The deacon whose marrying us knows it. We both pray (not together) and have our own ways of practicing the faith on our own.
How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? Our children will be raised Catholic and make all the sacraments (baptism through conformation). When they're older and really understand what things mean they can make a decision if they want to continue to practice. We both feel like its important to teach children some sort of faith (whatever it might be) so they at least having a jumping off point in developing what they truly believe in. I seriously hated CCD (Sunday school) when I was younger, but I appreciate having done it and thank my parents now for forcing me to and giving me a base for my faith.

I don't affiliate myself with anything, but grew up with Catholic and Jewish influences (my mom's Catholic, my dad's Jewish). Hence I celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas with my family :-)

FI grew up Lutheran, but isn't very religious.

I haven't attended temple since my grandpa's funeral in 2004. Can't even remember the last time I was in a church.

I imagine FI and I will just keep doing what we're doing, which is not really going to any place of worship. His grandma once in a while gets on our case for it, thankfully it never goes very far. My own parents don't go very often, my dad only goes to services when my grandma wants to go.

ETA: I wouldn't worry about getting flamed Katelyn :-)

I'm a Christian. Methodist to be more exact. We also went to a Presbyterian church for a while growing up, but I'm definitely a Methodist.

Is your Fi the same religion?

FI is also a Methodist. His family used to go to the Pentacostal Holiness Church when he was younger, but in high school FI branched off on his own and started attending a Methodist church. His parents and sister are now Wesleyan, but a lot of his family are still Pentacostal. Honestly, they sometimes make me feel a bit uncomfortable. His one cousin refuses to wear pants and they don't even wear wedding bands because it's "adornment."

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)

FI and I go to church - not as regularly as we would like, but we still attend. We also talk about it to each other and others on a pretty regular basis. We pray before our meals and are working on trying to pray together more. FI goes to a great bible study at church and I would love to join one as well.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?

I see it playing a huge role in our family. It's so amazing to talk to the little kids that I babysit for and see how much they understand and grasp who God and Jesus are and what they've done for us. I know we'll get our children baptized, take them to church and get them involved in activities there, but I really want to talk to them about it. I want them to know why we celebrate Christmas and Easter and not just because you get presents.

Is your Fi the same religion? Yep, we actually met at one of our church's Catholic youth programs!
How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) It's been an up and down roller coaster for me the past few years, but I always identified as Catholic, even if my beliefs were in question (don't worry about getting flamed zim!). I am starting to get into it more lately, and I am happy about that. I've come to accept that even if I don't agree with all of the Church's teachings, there is still something in it spiritualy for me. I practice by going to mass, praying, you know, the usual; but a very strong part of my spirituality and how I practice it is seeing the wonder in everyday things. I really feel God's presence in nature, in learning (academic at heart, what can I say), in great food, really just in being alive. I feel there is an amazing energy and spirit that simply runs through everything (kind of transcendental I guess).
How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?

We will definitely raise our children Catholic and partake in all of the things that come with that. I also want to pass on to them what I wrote about in the previous question, about recognizing God and wonder in everything.

Add this to my answer. It was in my head, just didn't type it out. Our children will know why we celebrate holidays and why we go to church. I want to read the Christmas story to them every year, make the 3 kings show up at the manger on Epiphany and several other important things.

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) Very involved in our local church that we attend. However, we do not attend your traditional type church. We attend a cowboy church, which is an experience in itself. I am actively involved in the music team - I am audio-visual tech person.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?
If we have kids we will most likely raise them the way we were raised - very involved in church.

What religion are you? Catholic.

Is your Fi the same religion? Yes he is.

How do you "practice" your faith? Unfortunately, we really don't. I went to a Catholic high school growing up and attended church weekly, but I haven't in a while. Fi and I have only been to church together once for his brother's confirmation. It's pretty sad and I really want to get back into it. I am really hoping we will go to midnight mass this year on Christmas, and then begin to go to church on a regular basis.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? We have already discussed the fact that we want our children baptized and raised Catholic. I would LOVE to get a job working at my high school and be able to send my kids there, also, but we will see if that happens. Not sure if we could afford it otherwise.

ETA: I pray on a daily basis, and try to make my prayers more about other people than myself. Some of you are really inspiring in how much religion is a part of your lives!

IF you feel like sharing, what religion are you?
I am a Christian. The church I belong to is a Christian Missionary Alliance church (very similar to Baptist). I grew up Lutheran and slowly made the change during college.

Is your Fi the same religion?
He is Lutheran. He grew up i the Lutheran church. He is actually an elder at his church now. He is currently transitioning out right now and will be a memeber at my church in the near future.

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)
We attend Sunday School and church weekly (only miss if sick or out of town). I teach Carter's sunday school some Sundays. There is adult Sunday school during kids Sunday school so FI go to that when I am not teaching. We read Christian books together. We are doing a daily devotional together. I am involved in a bible study with another lady from church. In January FI and I will be starting a video series bible study together (pre-pre-marriage counseling haha!) and we will also be starting a couples bible study with 2 other couples from out church. We also pray before ALL meals (Carter is the best little prayer! He NEVER forgets, even if we are at a restaurant!) FI always says a prayer for our family after Carter prays for us. I have been praying a lot lately for FI and I to start praying together more, but I know that it is best if it is his idea. So I am patiently waiting for God to work in his heart! I also dedicate my car ride to work to prayer and praise. I pray for my family, I pray for Carter to grow up to know Jesus and for God to soften his heart, I praise God for all of the blessings in my life, and I listen to Christian music almost all the time. Oh and we also plan to start reading one chapter from the bible each night before dinner as part of our routine. We want out kids to grow up in the Word as part of their normal daily routine. We are jst trying to come up with a good way to do it... where to start....

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?
Read above... since we already have Carter we are already actively doing these things. As for baptism... we are still talking about it. We will most likely baptize our kids. If we don't, they will be dedicated and then baptized when they form a relationship with Jesus and accept Him as their Lord and Savior.

ETA: Our kids WILL know what Easter and Christmas are truely about.

IF you feel like sharing, what religion are you? Raised heavily Catholic-Catholic school, mass EVERY Sunday, EVERY holy day of Obligation, eucharistic minister, reader-all church events, you name it. Since college I have been a radical atheist

Is your Fi the same religion? He's in the same boat-full Irish Catholic, Catholic school, etc. He's been an atheist for over a decade.

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) Despite having an absence of faith, I think we do "practice" atheism in the sense that we both read a lot-both atheist and religious writings. We both seek to understand why people believe certain things and how that affects their actions. Also science, particularly evolutionary biology is sort of the core of our "belief" so we read a lot on that subject manner, attend lectures, etc.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? We are not planning on having children but if we did, religion would be treated like any other subject such as math, science, literature, etc: we would teach them about world religions, how they shape people's lives, why other people believe what they believe. I think one of the main reasons I became an atheist is because I was raised so strictly that THIS was the only right answer, we weren't even taught what other religions believed (other than that they were wrong and going to hell). So as an adult, when I started reading and talking to people with other beliefs it really made me revolt against my upbringing. Coincidentally, after their first daughter turned into a radical atheist, my parents have been much less strict with my (much younger) sister. They say they are taking a different approach, hoping she doesn't abandon Christianity entirely.

I attend church every Sunday. I help with the children's ministry at my church. FI will sometimes attend church with me. In my family we always pray before we eat our meals and before going to bed.
How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?
We will raise our children in the church and most likely as Pentecostal. We also want our children to understand the true meaning of Christmas and Easter.

There are many older women at my church who still believe this. I'm sorry they make you feel uncomfortable. My grandmother used to never wear diamonds (no engagement ring) until just recently.

I am a Christian. Protestant. The church I go to is Christ Church United in Lowell, which is a denomination of UCC (United Church of Christ)

Is your Fi the same religion?
Nope. He's Catholic, but not a practicing.

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)
I practice my faith by going to worship service almost every Sunday (in Sept & Oct we miss service because of my son's football). I am also on the coordinating council, a trustee, and the treasurer at my church. In the past, I have also been a Sunday school teacher, Nursery teacher, Moderator, Clerk, and on the building and grounds committe. I have also attended evening bible study in the past. So, my religion is pretty big on my list! I just wish sometimes that FI would understand that. Sometimes he doesn't get why I have so many meetings and stuff.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?
My son attends church with me and attends Sunday school on a regular basis (except when he has football). When we have FI's kids, they also attend with us, even though they are Catholic. Their mother is not religious at all, which is why I don't get why she made them go to CCD and get confirmed. Something I guess I'll never understand.

No...both FI and I are Atheist as well. We were both raised Catholic, first communion, confirmation etc...like you, it wasn't until college that my beliefs changed. FI majored in psychobiology with an emphasis in evolutionary biology.

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) Nothing, but I go to the Christmas service with my Mom every year.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? Not sure. We might take them, because we both somewhat grew up with it. It has good intentions. That's all I'm saying because I don't want to get scolded for my actually beliefs.

I studied a lot of psychobiology when I was an undergrad... it was basically my third major. I'm a little confused though, how does studying it make you or help prove you are an atheist? I'm not trying to flame or start an argument, but just understand where you are coming from.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the whole separation and I too think Darwin was right and that species do evolve from one another based on many conditions (including genetics).

He is also a Christian. Not trying to be offensive, but I don't really understand all the "He's just a Christian" comments. Why does it matter if you're Lutheran or Baptist or Methodist or Pentacostal? If you believe Jesus is the only way to an eternal relationship with God, you're Christian, right?
How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)

We go to church and are part of a small group that meets once a week. FI and I pray together almost every day, and sometimes read the Bible together. I used to be more involved in church--teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, etc. I even went to Bible School for a semester and was a missionary teacher for two years. My parents were missionaries, as well, so I grew up on the mission field.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?
We will definitely pray with them and for them, and teach them about our God, as well as other religions. We will expect them to attend church, up until a certain age, when the decision will be left to them.

Agreed 100%. I don't think people mean that the way it came across to us though. Christianity is the big umbrella that all of those (and some more) fall under for sure.

Is your Fi the same religion? Yes

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.) We attend mass every Sunday and on holy days of obligation. We'd like to go at least once during the week, too, but our work schedules don't allow it at the moment. We pray in the morning, before meals, and at bedtime. We read Christian books, both separately and together, and are trying to get back into the habit of reading the bible everyday.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? Religion will play a very important role in our family life, as it is the core of our relationship and everything we do. We are getting married in the church and will baptise our children and raise them in the church.

Is your Fi the same religion? Yes, he always considered himself a Catholics but was not raised going to church and didnt really start going until we met. He had never received his First Communion and Confirmation until last Easter when he decided to go through the RCIA program at our church and I was his sponsor

How do you "practice" your faith? We go to church on Sundays, sometimes we skip but we actually like to go and get a lot from each mass. Especially since he's been confirmed we both learned so much through the year-process we appreciate all the rituals more (that I would just kind of go through the motions until I was reminded of their purpose/meaning). We like to attend some of the function our church puts on that interest us. I also do daily readings/prayers and the find them so inspiration I dont really like to begin my day without them. I was brought up in a very Catholic family and am definitely rubbing off on Fi, which I think is the best thing I have ever done for him. We talk about our beliefs a lot and I think it really makes our bond so much stronger.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family? I would love to be a Sunday school teacher when we have kids-I've always kind of pictured myself doing that. Our church is a very "active community" in that there is always stuff going on and I love it. Our children will definitely be brought up Catholic and I know when we have kids they will probably be very involved in the church. I cant imagine not having my faith to depend on every day and cannot imagine raising a family any other way.

I guess for me being atheist/agnostic I don't want to think that this is it. Part of me thinks we'll come back in another life. But after so many bad things have happened the past few years it's hard for me to believe in a loving God and this is his plan for me. My sister is the same way. She's very atheist. I also don't have a lot of the same views as the church like abortion, gay marriage, birth control, etc

I couldn;t agree more. Have you ever looked into the scientific end of the plagues... interesting stuff! God created everything- including science. I am so confused when people think that it has to be one or the other.

IF you feel like sharing, what religion are you?
I was raised Protestant, Congregationalist in particular

Is your Fi the same religion?
He was raised Catholic and went to private Catholic school from grade K through 8

How do you "practice" your faith? (Attending a place of worship, reading, etc.)
I went to Sunday school growing up through Confirmation. After that, my parents let us decide what we wanted to do. I don't go to church anymore but definitely believe in God and have religious beliefs. I pray every night as I lay in bed. It was very important to me to have my minister from my home church marry us.

How do you see your religion playing a role in your future with Fi/family?
He doesn't really care. He doesn't go to church and is not a practicing Catholic. He said if I want to take the kids to church and raise them Protestant, he's fine with that.
