Wedding Party

I judge...

A coworker who responded to my first question of "why doesn't this client have this document from last year?" by saying it's not a client anymore. Then in response to "well was it a client LAST year?" she said yes. No mention of the document. And now that I said "ok, well then where's the document," she responded "it wasn't a client last year." I give up.

A friend who sent out an e-mail about her husband's birthday party on Friday. It is a "BYOB barbecue" and says that they won't have much food, so we shouldn't come hungry. I was one of the people on the thread a couple weeks ago who does throw my own birthday parties, but I actually host people with some food and drink. If you don't feel like shelling out money for a lot of beef (what is expected at a bbq here) then do something else.

Re: I judge...

  • Some of my coworkers for this ridiculous squabble they're having over cleaning out the fridge in the kitchen. It needs to be cleaned out for a breakfast being held this weekend (which is going to have almost 100 people at it, they need the effing room). But ooooh noooo, even though we host events all the time and empty that fridge all the time, this time it's a problem - and it's only because these two coworkers hate each other. No other legitimate reason.

And I continue to judge my stepdad and his mistress. Skeeze.

    Ugh. Workstupid makes me stabby.

I judge people based upon the words which they use to clarify a letter when spelling their name for me. For instance, if someone says "C as in cat" I deem them to be dull. "C as in cataclysmic global event" gains my respect and makes me want to get to know someone better. If this occurs during a work transaction, I am 50% more likely to leave the "C as in Cat" people's requests until the end of the day.
  • people who have cell phones but don't ever use them.

I have a friend who threw a surprise party for her DH last saturday. It was at 6 and I was driving back from my run at 6. I told her to keep her phone on her (because it's always MIA) and I would text when I got close to town to see if they were still there. So at 930 I text and drive towards party. I get to the town, drive past the restaurant and recognize zero vehicles, so I keep on going. Then when I get home (hour later) I get a text from someone else I texted about the party and sure enough, they were still there, and wanted me to come back. Yesterday friend posts pictures from DH party and said "thanks to ALL who showed up" so I responded "well I would have but I figured it was over" and she said "sorry, you know my phone, got your message the next morning. oops."

I judge my FMIL for taking absolutely no interest in our wedding planning. I know she's not obligated to, but really, your only son and your only child is getting married and you haven't inquired about anything? I just find this behavior odd and it makes me like her a little less.

I'm just curious - why didn't you call?

In general, I judge people who text me for important stuff instead of calling. I don't always hear the tiny beep from a text in situations where I would hear the phone ringing. And honestly, if I get a text, I don't treat it as urgent. If it were urgent, you would have called so that you knew I was getting the message in that moment vs. a text which you don't know when I'll read. (Side note: if you told me you would text and not call, I'd have my phone in a place that I'd notice the text and would be looking out for it, so I'm not talking about this specific situation)
  • Mel you make me laugh like none other. I have to agree with your judge. C as in cat doesn't cut it.

I also have to judge people who use their facebook status for complaining every day. I'm sorry that apparently your life is so bad you have to AW it out to all 800 of your facebook friends, but I don't buy it. How about looking on the bright side of things for a change?

Cell reception is very spotty out here. It's easier to text than call because you spend most of the time saying "can you hear me?" "Yeah, ok, wait no" I should have just gotten out of my car and gone in to the place to see if they were there. I am sure her cell was left in the vehicle, that's usually where it is and I'll get a text back 3 days later. And if I call her house phone, she usually doesn't return calls.

  • I trained most of my friends and family to text rather than call me when I was at Disney. I could under no circumstances answer an incoming call onstage (I could use it as a last possible resort in an emergency if I had no other means of contacting 911), but I could usually read and respond to text messages discreetly in certain places, like in the tunnels on the train or in the back of the theatre in the Opera House. I don't check my voicemail very often, so my voicemail message actually says, "If this is an urgent matter, please text or email me so I can respond in a timely fashion."

  • CA2, texting makes perfect sense in your situation then. Ditto Aerin. I fully admit that a large part of my judging on the texting vs. calling issue comes from a girl I don't like (but who was in my group of friends here) who used to always text me for things that actually were urgent. Just because I don't particularly like you doesn't mean I'm going to bite your head off if you call me, man up and do it.

I don't judge military wives for cheating any more than I judge women that cheat in general (Which, I judge all cheaters severely) ... until they play the "oh, my husband is in the military, so it's different for me". No. Infidelity is infidelity.

And I get extra judgey with the affairs and "hobby" babies, if the guy had been active in the service prior to the wedding. If you were faithful and baby-less then and dealing with it fine, wtf do you suddenly need a baby and a boyfriend once you're married?

  • I said it in E's thread earlier, but I have to say it again:

I judge FMIL for telling FI I wasn't allowed to be in family photos at his graduation on Saturday because they "weren't sure if it was going to work out yet". Ugh, really woman?

Also, I judge the woman who works with my mom, who randomly called me 5 minutes ago, and who told me I was an evil person who had obviously been "possessed by a demon" if I went through with a marriage to a man who isn't Catholic, and that all our future children would be doomed. [Note: I am not Catholic...neither is my mother.]

Sorry, I lurk here a lot and that phone call just pushed me into a LARGE amount of rage and judginess.

    1) Your FMIL sounds like a biatch. I wouldv'e probably made some smart a$$ remark like "well it will be fun to see how you feel when we don't allow you to be in family photos at the wedding. I bet you'll really love your little photo decision then."

    2) This woman sounds crazy! I would've been like "well, as no one in our family is catholic, this doesn't bother me. However, thank you for your concern. I'm sure God will judge your holier than thou attitude when you finally meet him. Until then I guess we won't have to put up with your attitude at the wedding." At least it is one less invite.

Oh, oh, oh. I don't remember if anybody remembers, but DH took me to see Wicked on Broadway for my birthday last year. There was this group of 5 really annoying girls sitting next to us, they kept giggling and having conversations with each other during the show, but the absolute worst was the one sitting right next to me spent the entire first act texting somebody on her effin iPhone. Hello? We did not pay $100 a ticket to be distracted by your stupid phone! A bunch of us very loudly complained about it during intermission. She traded seats with the friend on the other end ... but we totally could see that she didn't stop texting, just tried (pathetically) to hide the phone a little better.

Who the f*ck goes to a Broadway show and plays on their iPhone the entire time?!?!?!?!

If someone complains about you talking, or the waiters think its too loud, they excort you out. Kids are only allowed at shows before 6pm on certain Saturdays of the month, and not at all during other shows. They serve beer and real food.
