With a friend who is an officer, I don't like it when he is put in dangerous situations, either. But I don't equate throwing something at him (unless it's a brick or rock) with shooting the thrower.

And wow. Vitriolic much? There's venting and then there's outright racist anger. Line = crossed.

Betrothed - this is coming from an AZ native who is sick and tired of the same issue day in, day out. The protests are going on right now because its the first day it went into effect. This is coming from someone who is sick of her FI and friends because called "racist" and being physically assaulted for enforcing the law, this is coming from someone who recently had to wait 8 hours in the ER because it was beyond capacity, this is coming from someone whose family immigrated to the U.S. LEGALLY...as well as my FI's family...and they never flashed a foreign flag or insulted the country they longed to be in.

And I do have to say, in my city we fly the Montana flag, the U.S. flag, and the Canadian flag, because we have good relations with Canada. They are a huge boost to our local economy.

And I don't think that you mean it to, but statements like these are what make people think Americans are arrogant. We were lucky to be born in a free and safe country. That doesn't make us better, just damn lucky.

I recently quized FI. He passed. But he has a Bachelor's in Political Science. And he just recently graduated. I can't imagine taking it with English being my second language.

I passed it. And my friend who is in the process of becoming a citizen can pass it. BUT he is from a wealthy family, learned English in school, etc--I cannot imagine facing it without those advantages.

Obviously I know the actual situation going on in AZ, but that does not explain why you felt the need to post a long, hate-filled diatribe, without provocation here, to a group of people you don't know all that well (so you have no idea whether or not you're going to offend someone) about it.

You make me sick. I am 1st generation American on my mom's side of the family. My mother and my grandmother came over here LEGALLY and are now US citizens and have been for a long time. It is not as easy as just filling out paperwork!

I will agree that there is a problem with illegal immigrant's in this country but not all of them are Mexican or of a Latin decent. Get your facts straight about that!

I do not believe that me being an American citizen should be questioned about my legal status in the state of Arizona based solely on my outside appearance! How would like it if your FI who you say is Hispanic was harassed for his legal status based solely on his appearance?

Exactly. I won't fault someone for having the poor luck to be born on the "wrong" side of an invisible line. You're so level-headed, Jasmine.

Having known many people who are undocumented, I really can't fault someone for leaving a dangerous and corrupt country, risking their life to come to the US, living in a 1 bedroom apartment with 9 other people, making less than minimum wage under the table with no benefits, not being able to legally drive or insure a car, not trusting the police if a crime is commited against them, and still sending half of what they make back to their families. It's a much harder life than I would want to leave, but to them, it's better than what they're used to. It's a way out for their families.

EXACTLY. FWIW, I knew an illegal immigrant who was from Ireland.

While they removed the provision about officers being able to basically racially profile people they stopped (necessitating immigrants to keep proof of citizenship on them at all times), the intent of the entire bill seems hateful, IMO.

What makes me sad is that she is likely not the only one with this point of view. I am so far removed from the Arizona situation, but the whole thing is just so...disheartening.
