Hello? Is there anybody out there?

Re: Hello? Is there anybody out there?

  • When I lived in LA, I was thrilled to find a non-kennel dog boarding facility for under $50/day.  In SF, I found a place that was only $35/day, and in Tampa, I found one (admittedly not pretty) for $15/day.  Of course, in SF, most of the time, my parents did the dog sitting, and in Tampa, my in laws can help out as well, as they did for the last two weeks.  In LA, taking a one-week vacation could be really expensive just because of pet care costs.
  • Oh, for most overnights in every city I've ever lived, the range is $50-70/night, sometimes more if there are multiple animals.
  • If it would be $60 a night for them to board them, I'd think maybe $35-40 then?  I mean, I woudn't gouge them just because, especially since it sounds like it won't be TOO much work.  But yeah, I'd ask what they were thinking, perhaps.

Yeah, I want to be fair to them, but I also want it to be worth my time. We'll see. I'm not sure I even want to do it at all. That's going to be a pretty busy week, I think. If all goes well, we'll be moving FI into an apartment.

I think my inlaws paid a friend's kid to stay at their house for a week.  I think they gave her $25/day since she wasn't a licensed pet person.

I seriously have done NOTHING today. Just lazed. And it's been AWESOME! I worked my butt off getting stuff ready for last night, so guess it's OK.

Dog boarding sounds spendy. Good thing they are so loveable!

So my niece (she's 19) can't go back to college this fall due to health reasons. For some cuddle therapy, they were thinking about getting her a kitten. So some lady calls her dad, who has a used car biz, to tell him there is a kitten all holed up under one of his cars when she was out there looking at a vehicle. They go out there and it's about a two-month old female who is obviously stray and totally adorable. They'll let her hang at the office tonight and take her to vet tomorrow to be checked. Pretty cool!

ETA: They've been thinking about getting a cat for a while but figured now was a particularly good time to add a new household member.

  • Aw, cute Wally.

H and I cleaned the apartment earlier, then I did some lazing, and I just put some crescent rolls with nutella in/on them into the oven to bake.
  • That's pretty good timing, Wally.  I'm glad the kitty will get a new home and your niece will get some cuddle therapy.

We're currently consoling ourselves about the end of a lovely vacation by cuddling with our kittens.

    Good night, all!
  • Well that worked out well, Wally!  Poor kitty.

I've done nothing today.  Not even laundry or grocery shopping.  Whoops.  I've been reading, knotting, sorting pictures, and writing blog posts.

I've had a pretty busy day and I'm absolutely exhausted, but I'm afraid if I go to bed soon, I'll be up too early with nothing to do.

I think my lack of energy is somewhat related to the fact that I haven't been eating much lately. I have a lot going on and I've been stressed, which leads me to have no appetite. Guess that's one way to get into wedding shape...

ETA - I know I can't continue like this for long, I'm not Steffi. I just can't seem to force myself to eat when I'm not hungry at the moment.

  • Angel, you should try to make the things you do eat when you're hungry more calorie dense.  Not like...pizza instead of a salad, but adding healthy things (like nuts on the salad, or whatever) to sneak a few more calories in.

Willy, for sure.  Even just one more day before I go back to work would be great.  I already know I'm walking into a shitstorm with two of my kids.  I'm a little anxious.

  • I have Monty Python and the Holy Grail on the way from Netflix.  H has never seen it.  We will be cuddling on the couch and watching together next Tuesday.  He'd also never seen Animal House - I fixed that already.

Part of me really wants to know how you got the pee in the baggie.  Part of me does not want anything to do with that conversation.

Dammit, J, I could've ordered two!  (They have them at Target. Online only, though.)

That is really weird. Flick, flock, fluck

AH! It's PLURAL of flick that is not allowed.

ETA: J, I am right there with ya on the dog pee. Hmmmm.

Hahah. Yesterday Tory tested positive for Lymes but wouldn't pee at the vet. So they gave me a wire hanger finagled with a plastic Baggie to capture some urine to bring back to test for kidney damage. And yes, trying to reach down and catch a stream of dog pee is ridiculous and unpleasant for both dog and dog mama.

<div>I have a "pee ladle" especially for these things.  It was kept in the washtub in the basement so as not to be confused with any of the actual kitchen ladles.  It also had duct tape on the handle for further differentiation.  I think I threw it away when we moved, or else it's still packed in a "dog stuff" box.</div>
  • The whole process sounds awful. Your pups ar lucky to have such dedicated mommas!
