Not Engaged Yet

I've got an UO!

I thought of this earlier this week and I finally have an unpopular opinion! (maybe?)

I think asking people for their fingerprints as a guest book thing is weird. I would do it as a guest, but I'd smudge it--on purpose. I dunno what you could do with my fingerprint, but I don't want you to have it! And finger prints on rings is weird too. It reminds me of looking at the texture of my eye in the mirror and wanting to pass out.

Any new ones for you?

I guess I live in a cave, because I've never heard of this. However, I'd be a bit paranoid too. They've got my fingerprints for my teaching and for my CHL, and I don't know, I just think I'd be a bit paranoid about someone using my fingerprints for dastardly deeds... they probably can't, but still. LOL.

I have no idea why but this made me laugh so hard and now people are staring at me lol. I don't like the idea of a fingerprint guest book either. I think they look cool and it's a neat idea but in actuality it seems like a big hassle.

Is this going to be an UO thread because I have one too!

I would be so happy if we never discuss abortion on the board ever again. I feel like we pretty much know everyone's opinion on it and have said everything there is to say. It's not really brought up that often but whenever it is that's what I think. And yes this is kind of hypocritical because I'm bringing up.

  • You're unpop op cracks me up Jen. I have to admit though, I don't like fingerprint guestbooks either. Not for your reasoning...but because they're messy. Whoever thought "lets get all of our friends and family all dressed up and then ask them to finger paint" was not too intelligent IMHO!

My unpop op of the day is that I don't think you should be able to give wedding planning advice if you have not ever planned a wedding. Lord knows I have been guilty of this in my past, so i'm certainly not pointing any fingers. (and as a disclaimer, there are many NEY ladies on this board who give wonderful advice on the subject!) BUT...now that I am wedding planning I just want to scream "Your opinion is all fine and good in theory, but in reality...THE RULES ARE NOT THAT BLACK AND WHITE".

I'm guilty of this :( I do always feel a little weird about it and I totally see your point - it's easy to say do a, b, and c and never do x, y, z but in reality sometimes it just doesn't work.

  • Phew! I'm so happy with this initial reaction to my UO!

Here is an example, http://www.stylemepretty.com/gallery/picture/565535 LTG. I think that was the blog that inspired this UO thought. ha

And I laughed at your " And yes this is kind of hypocritical because I'm bringing up," beth.

I'm was terrified to start this thread/but sooo excited to have an UO!

  • Jen- that is pretty funny I've never heard of that before though..

I really don't have any UO's at the moment.

Allusive, I believe there have been several stages to the planning process. How things felt in the beginning, and the middle, and now are sooo different. For example I thought my mom would be up my butt with opinions, so I was initially relieved that she had nothing to say once the wedding planning started.  Now I'm so bothered that she won't weigh in on anything except what she is wearing and how her hair will be. grrr.

Oh... meh, I'm not a huge fan of it. It is cute, but not for me.

  • I'm not a fan of the fingerprint guestbooks either.  Not because of the fingerprinting necessarily, but I don't know who the hells fingerprint is whose and that's the whole point of a guest book is to be able to look back and see who came to your wedding.

As for the wedding advice before you've had a wedding, I think there are certain topics that you can chime in on, especially relating to guests (because we've all been wedding guests before), but yeah, I can see how there are some things that you just don't really know until you've done it.

I don't have any of my own UO at the moment...I might think of some later.

If you are collecting unemployment you should be required to spending x amount of hours may be 20 a week ot something reasonable donating your time to something, or some place.  Collecting trash near highways, working in a soup kitchen/homeless shelter, in areas where there are farms- help in that aspect.  You should give back in some way for what you get, and may be this is true and varies for some states....
