So...we have new neighbors. I went over after class today to introduce myself. She says, "oooh you are the one with the two full bred dogs? I generally think people with 'fu-fu' dogs are snotty, but you seem kind of nice (insert annoying laugh here)." I just said, "oh, well nice to meet you."
WTH is that???? I have never really heard of this before. Also, who the hell told her about my dogs?
Thoughts? Am I labeled snotty because I have a pure bred (one, the other is a mixed breed....ah thank you very much...SO....technically I am half-snotty.

Re: People who own full bred dogs are snotty???
Duh.
http://tidetravel.weebly.com/index.html
The only people I think are snooty are the ones who use "pure bred" every single time they say their dog's breed. You can just say "he's a huskey," you don't need to say "Well, my pure bred huskey does this" and "yesterday, my pure bred huskey did that...". Also, small children who come up to me and ask me if my dog is a pure bred out of the blue makes me think their parents put too much emphasis on it.
But in general, no, pure bred owners are not snotty.

I think that it's pretty ridiculous because they a) are speculating on where you obtained your dog and b) acting like just because a breeder or mass producer of puppies bred a dog that it doesn't need a good home, too.
Just ignore them and know that there's a chance they don't deserve your company.

HA! I'm not fuming over it. It is just strange to me that that is one of her criteria for basing whether or not someone is snotty...there is a lot more I do than own a "full bred" dog that is considered snotty. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />
I have a purebred miniature schnauzer. Nobody has ever called be snotty for it, at least that I know of...but then again, I'm deaf, so it's possible I've just missed it Seriously though, I think your neighbors are just weird. Let it go and don't worry about it. Edit: I also don't go around advertising that my dog is purebred. It has never occured to me to mention it to anyone - why would I? I think people who DO make a point of mentioning it come off as obnoxious, which is probably why your neighbors think this way.

Very possible. However, we have never even said he is a purebred and this is the first time I've met this woman...I guess I just got preemptively judged, which is fine, strange that its for my dogs, but fine. :) If they ask if he is papered we say yes, but only if asked. We also own a miniature schnauzer :) He's not so mini though at 22 lbs.
I have a pure bred. im not snotty. I know she is pure bred because I have her papers. There are also tons of pure breds in shelters.

All of my animals are shelter pets. Wilson (our mini schnauzer) was given up at a shelter, with his papers, because he was an epileptic. So...we did adopt him. I love my Mr. Wilson though and when he passes on, I would get another schnauzer. Guess that makes me snotty :)
Or worse, you have a 'designer' dog - aka, two pure breds mixed (labradoodles, chiapoos, yorkiepoo, etc). We have a purebred beagle & 2 puggles. No ones said a word. When we got our bulldog puppy, though, we had people ask us if that was the 'expensive' bulldog. Wtf? STFU.

Our other dog is a "designed dog" lol! She's a "malshi" or a maltese shih tzu mix. We only know that because we were there the day the owner dropped her off at the shelter. Otherwsie, we could speculate, but wouldn't know for sure. And I think puggles are sooooo cute!
I think as long as you aren't carrying around the AKC papers in your pocket to prove how awesomely pure bred your dog is, you're fine.
Posted by bltata
Actually he's the worst "pure bred" ever! He is epileptic (due to them breeding his epileptic mother, which is soooo unethical) and he's super huge! All he needs is some phenobarbital and a haircut and he's just as fancy as anyone else! ;)
I *think* once you spay or neuter the dog its not really a "pure bred" anymore. Or something like that. I know you cant show them once they are fixed.

Ah see, I'm vindicated. All animals are spayed and neutered :)
