NWR: You can't tattoo your children. It's illegal.

And using the excuse, "But they wanted them," isn't helping your cause:

Thank you DH for spotting this on Fark.

  • I nominate them for parents of the year.
  • there are some people who flat out should not spawn. this"mother" is clearly one of them. how absolutely hideous.
  • That is terrible. I have two tattoos and they hurt like hell. Poor kids.

  • Oh good grief. Idiots.

  • Miniscule? Fades away? Um, no. If the kids wanted a tattoo, try the temporary version. So weird. What the hell are they doing with 7 kids?

  • What, are you saying that it's against the law to tattoo your kids?! Even if it's just a little tattoo?

How the hell am I supposed to keep track of which ones are mine?! If I own them, don't I get to decide? You've got me tripping so bad now!

  • Its illegal? Oops.

  • But it's ok because she didn't realize it was illegal!

    *facepalm*
  • I love that she said, "tripping" to the reporter!

I saw the article and had to share.  Not only did she procreate, but she could also serve on a jury.
  • What morons! Who does something like that!?

  • Omg I missed the fact that they have SEVEN kids. That makes me so mad. There are so many capable people that have trouble conceiving, and yet it's the dipshits like this that are crazy fertile.
  • What? So, I can't have our address tattooed on Ben's arm?  How will he find his way home from school?
  • Did you notice this happened around Thanksgiving? no one said anything about it until now??? WTF? I mean, school was in session between Thanksgiving and Christmas, someone had to have seen them.
  • That's just crazy!!!!
But I'm pretty sure it's legal. At least in Florida it is. You have to be over 18 OR have parental consent.
  • Terbear, it was probably the teachers who reported to the child protection authority at that time, but the parents weren't charged straight away as the police were gathering evidence. Just because it only came to the attention of the media right now doesn't mean it was only sighted recently.
  • edited January 2010
(and just because the parents weren't charged at the outset doesn't mean that the child protection authority didn't take their own action in the meantime to protect the kids).
  • Damn.  I really wanted to brand my kids.
  • I guess in this case there would be parental consent, but I wonder what was going through their minds when they made the homemade tattoo gun.
  • Sun I was talking about where it said someone else's mom noticed :

    FRIDAY JAN 1st 1 PM

CHATTOOGA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -- A North Georgia couple is accused of tattooing six children with a homemade device.

Patty Jo Marsh and Jacob Edward Bartels were arrested Monday when the mother of one of the children discovered a tattoo on her daughter's hand and contacted police.

  • I think in their state that tattooing anyone under 18 is illegal regardless of parental consent, or so they said on HLN this morning when I saw the story. In some states there are clauses that allow for parental consent, so this would have been legal. Still stupid, but at least legal.

Anyone notice the mom had one on her neck? Klassy

  • That.  Is. Hilarious.  I love stupid people sometimes.

Now that makes more sense. Its one thing to tattoo your own children, but you definitely cant do it to other people's children!

  • terbear, good catch.

Although you can't really "blame" the teachers, one would hope that a better eye could have caught it as well.

  • well ya, but like, when I was in school at age 10, my mom watched me like a hawk, made sure I put gloves on and what not in the wintertime or whatever. I just can't imagine someone not noticing their child with a tattoo on their hand, or complaining about the pain, or a teacher or a friend at school known to be a tattletale for a month!! That's the part that gets me.
  • Sarah, it looks like the mother might have the child with the "tattoo artist".

Above in the article it states that they tattooed 6 of their 7 children and the woman interviewed had a "Who are they to tell me what to do to my own children" attitude.  I don't think they tattooed the children's friends.

a different article - states that she is not the biological mom of two of them --- her hubbys maybe??? wtf??
  • In Pa, it is legal to tattoo your address (or in most cases, a service agency/hospital with your children's records) on children with medical/mental issues. My fiance is a tattoo artist and a parent came to him asking if he would travel to a hospital and tattoo the information on their 10 year old daughter who was non-vocal and had a ton of medical/mental problems. They had medical and legal consent and all. He did not do it though, he wasnt comfortable with her possible outburst and/or twitches that would cause him to injure her.
  • NICE.

Rather interesting that she claims that she knows what's best for HER children when they weren't all hers....and the father is not interviewed at all.

  • I wouldn't blame the teachers at all.  Those are so cheesy looking, that if I saw it on a kid I would think they drew it on with pen.
