Good Morning! TGIF! Morning Thread!

Re: Good Morning! TGIF! Morning Thread!

  • Ive gotta be honest, I dont "get" going to disney without kids.
  • I kind of agree with you Nebb.  I've never been there though so maybe there are a ton of adult things to do.  I can't judge b/c I honestly don't know.
  • Nebb's a heartless bastard. I freaking love Disney. k... Magic Kingdom is a little lame without kids, maybe. but Epcot? awesome.
  • Yeah, im not really sure whats there either. I just imagine a shitton of kids and crowds of people and it seems less and less of a desireable place to be. I might also just not like disney enough to put up with that stuff.
  • Eh, if you love the movies then it's fun no matter how old you are. Plus they have a lot of interactive rides and games, and shows (the shows are my favorite, and the light parade).
  • So Steph which parks would be the best for kids?  Like do you think a 4 year old would like Epcot?  We were going to hit up every park but I'm not sure we should do 4 straight days so I'm seeing which ones I can probably skip.
  • True story - my mom never took me to "kid places" when I was younger because the one time she did (marine land) we were inthe petting zoo area and a bunch of deer attacked her. She also hated kids lol
  • Epcot was fun without kids. I know I said I never wanted to visit DW again but now I kinda do. We had a good time.
  • Stacks if you were going to cut out one of the 4, I'd cut out Epcot since I think J would enjoy the others more. MK for the obvious reasons, AK for the animals and characters, and HS for the shows.

But, I haven't been to Epcot in years so maybe it's changed. I remember it as being more of an adult place.
  • Yeah, the only park I'm really looking forward to going to is Epcot (there's booze at almost every pavilion in the World Showcase). And the shows are great, too. I can dig Magic Kingdom for the nostalgia of it, but if kids or crowds of people are pissing me off, I have no qualms with leaving and going elsewhere, since I don't have kids who want to see everything.

What I also like about going without kids is that the cast members running the flow of the lines will let you cut ahead to fulfill misc. empty spots on the ride/show. That's how I wound up only spending about 2 minutes in line for Space Mountain last June.

  • Magic Kingdom is a must, Stacks. Probably even two days. Epcot is cool, but she probably won't enjoy it as much... The Animal Kingdom is supposed to be awesome too (I haven't been there yet.) Did you buy passes already? If not, I think Universal Studios is near Disney too. (right?). We used to go there instead of Disney if my grandparents thought DW would be absolutely crazy.
  • I went to Disneyland when I was like 4 so I barely remember it.  I wanna go back for sure.

The kids have off today.  We have an open house at school which, I've been told, means nobody comes and we sit there eating and doing nothing.  There will be a potluck and I"m still trying to decide if I should just suck it up and bring something so that I can eat something, or to force myself to stick to my food taht I know is healthy and not bring something.

FI and I checked out two places last night, a duplex and a house. The duplex was REALLY nice and the landlord was awesome, but it was just too small.  Our bed would barely fit in the master bedroom.  Plus it only has a one stall garage and a small driveway so parking would be an issue.  The house was an absolute dump.  The floors were literally tilted so much that you could SEE the tilt.  Crazy.  Checking out three more places tonight.  I hate apartment/duplex/house hunting.
  • Universal is like what, 2 exits before Disney (going south)? It's pretty close.
  • Holy cheezus you guys are chatty already this morning.

I'm down for a Southern Ontario GTG.  I was thinking the same thing the other day.  September and I can try and spike number's water with the baby making stuff.

I forget who asked about Disney (and I'm way too lazy to scroll) but a friend of mine and her H drank through the countries at Epcot.  I think that would be awsome.  I went to Disney when I was in grade 7 (or 8?) and enjoyed Epcot and the Animal Kingdom the most.

This weekend should be fun.  I've got lots of driving to do, but we're having my mom's side's family Chistmas.  It will be nice to see my cousins!

  • We haven't bought the passes yet.  Our original plan was to go 5 days.  Hit up every park and then let J choose her favorite to go back to.  I just think that'll be too much for her so I'm trying to scale back some.  I really want her to do the dinner with the princesses.  I think if she did that nothing else would matter.  It's $172 for the 3 of us to do that dinner.  Crazy!
  • There are certain things in Epcot that she would like, Stacks, like the Seas With Nemo & Friends ride, the Circle of Life Lion King show near Soarin', the Soda Fountain shop (can't remember the real name, but you can mix a whole bunch of different sodas from around the world, for free). But, you could probably hit up all those in a half day.

AK is great for kids, too, except she might not be tall enough to do the really fun rides (Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids) so that could be a bummer. If you do go there, be sure to do the Kilimanjaro safari ride, and It's Tough To Be A Bug 3D show inside the Tree of Life. At the Yak & Yeti restaurant (near Asia) they have these drinks called Yak Attacks and they are so tasty. Expensive, but delicious mango and rum daiquairis.

HS is great for shows. They do a lot of HS Musical stuff, and you can see Beauty and the Beast (near the Tower of Terror ride), Toy Story show (get your Fast Passes for this as soon as you get in the park, since it's the first show to get booked fast), and the Little Mermaid show.

It will be so worth it, just for the experience of eating inside Cinderella's castle. Keep in mind, when you book your dinner reservation, they make you pay for it right then, not when you dine (if I remember correctly). If you're able to, you should book her an appointment at the Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique so she can get all princess-ified before eating with the princesses.

  • The Beauty and the Beast show was amazing at HS. I also loved The Little Mermaid and the interactive game. Totally blanking on the name. The one where you shoot at the screens old-school gaming style? OH and the Monsters, Inc laugh floor was awesome.

Clearly, I need to go back to HS.
  • Thanks Mehgan!  That's really great info!  I'm trying to write down all the suggestions because there is just so much stuff to do.  I know as soon as we book our airfare I'm booking the princess dinner since we'll have a definite date, so I'll be sure to do the boutique thing too.  I'm really excited.

Are you talking about the Toy Story Mania interactive game?

And Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor is @ MK, over by Space Mtn. It's one of my favorite attractions because they comedians interact with the crowd, and it's always slightly different every time you go, so it doesn't get boring.

I am such a Disney whore. I'm so excited to go back next month for the race.

  • Yeah, Toy Story Mania. And the Monsters was at MK? I get my parks confused sometimes since we went to all 3 within a few days. but I was amazed at how that show worked since the characters were animated. How do they change it up like that on the spot? It baffles me.

Stacks, if you go to HS get a fast pass for the Toy Story Mania. The line is super long since it's so popular but it's so much fun.

Next time we go to HS, I want to go to the 50s diner. We were torn between that one and the "drive-in" sci-fi restaurant, but ended up choosing the drive-in since it was dark and cozy and quiet.
  • Good Morning.

It's Christmas!  Well..  my Christmas snow finally arrived at least.  All is finally right with the world in S.D.  I'm even slightly amused to see all the "OMG it's SNOW, what do I DO?!" drivers.  My prof for my first class has already emailed that she doesn't know if she'll make it due to living an hour from campus and I'm thinking it's a hot cocoa sorta day.

    Have a good one everyone!
  • I think it would be weirder to do a Disney Cruise with no kids than go to Disney World. My 2 cents since i have never been there. But I did go to Universal Studios alot when I was living in Orlando and loved it.

  • Ugh, the snow has arrived here in Pittsburgh. Probably not as bad as some other places but it took me an hour and a half to get home last night. It usually takes me 25-35 minutes. I even took all the back routes that nobody knows about.

I want to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but I've never been to Disney so I want to go there too. I think H wants to go to Disney more than my kid, which I find funny.

I think while you're waiting in line, they can see who sticks out, so they know to focus on them once they sit down. And I think they have cameras set up in the front of the stage, so they can display them whenever they joke about them. They focused on my stepdad one time because he's bald and was wearing a fishing cap so he wouldn't get a sunburn on his scalp, and they said he was wearing it to cover up his third eye.

I liked the Sci-Fi Drive-In at HS, too. I've eaten there twice. One thing I can say about Disney: while their food may be expensive, it's friggin' delicious. I've never had a meal at Disney that I didn't like. Plus, the portions are usually so big that you can get away with splitting them with someone else to save on funds.

I don't remember saying this. If I did say it, I was most likely being sarcastic, but I'm pretty sure other people were making fun of that whole thing more than I was. I was trying to stay away from that whole mess.

In other news, I just got to work and split my pants open. FML.
  • No, I get that part, mehg. I meant that they would make jokes as they were happening (like, teasing the guy for not hugging the woman next to him when they urged him to, or calling him a sourpuss when he made a face at them) and still having the animated character's mouth match the words. That's what baffles me.
  • So you know hwo I complain about my office a lot? Got in and the furnace is broken. Its as cold inside as outside. The HALLWAY is wamer so were all sitting out in the hall. Wtf.
