Tell me about your honeymooon.

Re: Tell me about your honeymooon.

  • We took an Alaskan Cruise about 8 months after are wedding (got married November 2008 and went August 2009).  Overall, it was wonderful.  We decided we are not cruise people, but it was the only realistic way for us to see Alaska given time and money constraints.
  • We're going to Disney World!  We're staying at the Hilton in Downtown Disney because his dad has a timeshare.  I'm needed to take the vacation right away because if I didn't do it now it would be years until we did.

  • We're going to the new Sandals resort in the Bahamas for 9 nights.  We are getting married on a Friday and we'll be leaving for the honeymoon Saturday afternoon.  I plan on laying around on the beach drinking and not being productive at all.
  • We did a cruise to the Bahamas through Carnival, which was awesome and we can't wait to go back. We left right after the wedding and drove 7 hours to ATL and stayed in an awesome hotel, then drove the remainder 7 hours to Port Canaveral, FL and stayed at a wonderful La Quinta Suites. The best part was just taking that trip together! We'd never been on an overnight trip together, so it was pretty great :)

  • We just got back last night at midnight.  We left the day after our wedding, on a late Sunday flight, and flew to Paris.  Spent 5 nights there, then rented a car and toured around.  1 night in Normandy, 1 in Brugges, Belgium, 1 in Koln, Germany; 1 near Wurtsburg, Germany, and 4 in Munich.  Brugges was the best overall.

I'm glad we did something soon after the wedding, although one more day between the wedding and the flight wouldn't have been a bad idea.  The two weeks was just right too - long enough to really relax, but we were ready to come home when it was time to leave, too.

  • Whit, it's from. . .  thegartermaker.com.  She has an etsy shop, but I don't remember what the name of it is.  I was afraid it might be too big or busy for my bouquet, but the florist kept it really clean and I think it worked out well.

  • I love Bruges.. It's great.

Anyway... We spend a day in Amsterdam, a day in J'burg, 6 days on Safari, 3 days in Paris, 4 days in NYC...

It was great.. Our last night was at the last home game in the old Yankee stadium.. I'm not even a Yankee fan per se, but DH  (a yankee fan)  was so excited I surprised him with that.

I loved our HM.. but I admit it was not for everyone.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We're doing all-inclusive in Aruba!!!! Probably for 9 days or so, but unfortunately we have to wait about a month since the wedding is in May and I'm a teacher, so an immediate honeymoon wouldn't work.  We'll probably just stay at a hotel the rest of the weekend after the wedding.

We're doing a quick 2-3 days at a big foodie destination and b&b in upstate NY immediately after the wedding.  We decided to save the bigger honeymoon for a few months later a) to save up money in between, and b) as a student, a right-away honeymoon would cut too much into early semester class time.

So, we're very excited to go to Southeast Asia in December/January! Eek! We're spending 3 weeks making our way through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.  And, it's VERY budget friendly, once you swallow the pricey airfare.  It's so right up our alley - food, adventure, culture. Can't wait!

We left for Paradise Island, Bahamas 3 days after our wedding. We spent 5 days and 4 nights at the Riu hotel (all-inclusive) and did absolutely nothing. No sight-seeing, no shopping, nothing. We sat on a beach and we ate/drank the entire time, and it was wonderful. The trip was right within our budget and we had a great time.

  • We went to Aruba!  Stayed in an all-inclusive for a week.  We waited a week after the wedding so I could get thank-you's done and the house picked up..(trust me, the house will be a MESS after the wedding!)  It also gave us something exciting to look forward to after the wedding was over!

  • We are planning to go to Mexico, Riviera Maya for a week, and want to leave either Sunday or Monday after our Friday wedding.  We haven't booked it yet, but hope too soon.  FI wants to go see the ruins and the rest of the time we can relax & drink by the pool or the beach.
  • We are doing an Alaskan cruise with Celebrity 5 days after our wedding. I'm really excited to do a lot of the excursions - whale watching, zip lining down the mountains, helicopter glacier tour.

  • We are going to an adults only all inclusive 5 star resort in PuntaCana for 7 nights. We are getting married October 2nd and flying on the 7th, so we have a few days to unwind and be lazy after the wedding. When we get back we will have about 3 more days to ourselves. I am so looking forward to it!
"does this sweater make me look fat?" "no, the fact that your fat makes you look fat. That sweater just makes you look purple".
  • We spent a 3 day weekend in banff, alberta for our mini-moon.  We knew that H's restaurant was shutting down for 2 weeks in July so we decided it would make the most sense to go then.

In those 2 weeks we had 2 weddings.  One on the 4th and one on the 11th.  The one on the fourth was 8 hours west of our city.  And the other one was 5 hours north.  We decided to do a HUGE roadtrip.  So we did a big circle on the map and went through the rockies in BC and Alberta.

    It was so fricken awesome.

We spent 2 nights in his parents condo in Kimberley, BC, then drove to the wedding.  Spent 2 minutes in small town BC for that wedding.  Spent 4 days in Kelowna, did some wine tours, ate lots of good food.  Stayed in a B & B.  Then next we went to Jasper, AB.  Spent a night in a private cabin at the Fairmont Park Lodge.  Then we went to the other wedding, then drove the 5 hours home the last day.  Best vacation ever!  We love roadtrips though.

  • We're going to Costa Rica for 11 days - can not wait!  We're staying at a remote hotel in the jungle for 4 nights doing adventurous stuff like ziplining, volcano hikes, checking out some waterfalls and hot springs, then heading to an all inclusive on the beach for 6 nights.  I wish I was going tomorrow.  I need a vacation and reading about all of these honeymoons are making me want to go on one even more!
  • My H and I took a cruise to Bermuda.  It was fantastic.  We mostly laid around and read and ate food, but it was perfect for us.

We did leave a few days after the wedding, and actually went back to work.  That was a bad idea, I don't recommend it.  Neither of us was in any state to be at work with exhaustion and just wanting to spend time together.
  • We're leaving for a week at an AI resort in Cozumel the day after our wedding--our flight leaves at 6:30 a.m. We are stoked.
