Evening thread?

Re: Evening thread?

• Aww, Hike! I can't stand watching embarrassing/awkward moments on tv/movies. I feel so embarrassed for them! I feel the humiliation as well. Like I have to cover my face or leave the room. I couldn't make it through Never Been Kissed.

Not quite the same as your empathy, but I sort of understand!

[QUOTE]Evening ladies. I am hoping to leave work pretty soon. FI is grilling steaks tonight and I am trying to figure out side. I think I'll do steamed veggies and roasted potatoes. Tonight is the season finale of SOA so I will be watching that. Is Steph around? I have a question on a recipe you have on your meal plan.

I have to wait till DH gets home Wednesday night, so no spoilers please!

Anna-I know how you feel about the children. I always try and give what I can, they are important.

For the parmesan chicken, I am planing to make it on Wednesday as well. I read on the recipe to make sure the the bread crumbs and parmesan is fine. I have pretty fine bread crumbs but I had a container of shredded parmesan. I don't have a food processor so do you think it will be ok to keep it shredded?

Anna, the school I teach at does a secret Santa for all of the economically disadvantage students. I'm so excited to buy for a couple of my students, because I know that they could really use it. Like you, I wish I had the money to do more though. I am really behind on the rest of my Christmas shopping though.

A local store is doing a wishing tree for the alone elderly in homes and assisted living in Sioux Falls. (you pick a paper ornament off the tree and then buy the gift for the person) It breaks my heart. Some of these people have nobody who cares for them and all the feel they can ask for are "needs" in my book. No wants. One of my ornaments is for a 92 year old woman. She asks for "a pill case with big openings so I can get my pills out despite my arthritis" and "warm socks". She's getting a blanket and a snowglobe too.

I completely understand. My parents and aunt get the east coast feed so they get it at 7pm and I have to wait till 10pm. I threaten to unfriend them if they put spoilers on FB.

This is a post and run. I'll check back for your answer Steph. thanks.
• That is heartbreaking, Anna.

It reminds me of this old column from Anne Landers. It's from the point of view of an elderly lady on Mother's Day (or her birthday, I forget). She is all dressed up and looking forward to a visit from her children who live about 10-15 minutes away. She sits on the porch and waits for them. She waits all day long, and they never show up or call. It was so sad, I cried.

• Guys, you don't have to send Anna money. I'm sure your local mall is doing stuff like this too!

Dodgers, I dunno. I haven't made it yet. I doubt it matters though ;) It'll just have a slightly different texture. I'm guessing the cheese will be more... melty and gooey if it's in bigger pieces. (I see nothing wrong with this though.) and I actually prefer more crunchy breading anyway.
• I certainly don't mind gooey cheese. The bread crumb and cheese mixture looks like the parmesan you put on pizza so I wasn't sure. Thanks. I was going to make it on Sunday but I wanted to let the chicken marinade longer since I had just went to the market that day.

Wow. How sad.
FI's dad is friends with an old lady who has kids like this. Treated her like absolute garbage. Never came to visit, never helped her with anything. Then she wrote FI's dad into her will (we think she's a millionaire.. if not yet, she will be, she has land worth 2 mill that will be sold upon her death, as stated in her will). Her kids absolutely hate him. WTF do you expect when you ignore your own mother and another man from church and his family come take care of her and hang out with her for a decade instead? She's such a sweet lady too. Stubborn as hell, but very sweet.
• Me either kd. I find so much for kids but not the elderly.

I can't explain our mall we our quite different and a lot has to do with the community we are in.

And near our home we really have nothing around. So we usually have to go out of our way for anything. The nearest (large) grocery store is the next town over.

But, our UPS store has quite a few bins. So, I think I'm going to go that route.

This. All great ideas. Also, don't forget your local hospice wards. If you call up there and speak to the nurses, they can let you know if there may be anything someone needs. Even if they just need someone to sit and read to them.
• We have SA bell ringers, but they are only allowed to have bells.

Last year we had a group of 10 women, 'singing' Christmas carols. They were AWFUL! Security had to shut it down. Haha. Now, they're only allowed to have bells, and we keep extra in our booth for people if they show up with something else.
