the weekend... it's coming!

What? Did you think I was setting y'all up for a Christmas song? hardly my style

It's totally day one of a two day cleaning spree here. I still cannot get over how filthy people leave rentals. So I'm gonna have to buckle on my courage shortly and dive into that mess until it's sparkling again.

I'm putting up our Christmas decor this weekend! Might be the last chance for a nice day to string up lights and heck, I just want them all up.

I usually am super serious about waiting until after thanksgiving to do anything christmas. but this is the first year with FI and I in our house... I have had to stop myself every day...

I am sorry about your rentals that would drive me insane...

I thought it was about Christmas too Anna. I thought maybe you had snow over night.

This weekend is supposed to be nice in Chicago as well. We don't decorate the outside of the house for Christmas. My son always loved doing it, so xH and I let him do it. But H is not interested. I do put up a wreath on the front door. I'm a Christmas decorating poop

Although, I DID adopt a Christmas family yesterday so I'm excited to go shopping. The little guys' wishlists were so sweet that I'm pretty sure they'll make out well from Santa

I am already ready for the snow to be gone. It can snow on christmas eve and christmas day. I would be happy with that.

Morning!! I was totally set up for Christmas post, everything is totally frozen here, but doesn't look like we'll get snow for a while. FI's family decorates their tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I suppose I need to get moving on making their ornaments. I bought scrabble tiles off ebay and I'm making everyone in my immediate family (mine and FIs) plus pets. I'm hoping they come out well. Pinterest makes me think I'm the DIY queen, then I try something and it fails terribly

I thought this was pretty fool proof.

Anna, did they fight you on the deposit? I've also been piissed when I move, they've always taken something even though I was so good about cleaning/maintaining. I never bothered to fight it though, not worth the time or energy.

Yea people amaze me... FI's sister and BIL did that to our house not as bad but close. when they moved out they told us " good thing we cleaned for you so you don't have anything to worry about..." I wanted to scream...

I know the kids we got just wanted a coat and shoes but we gave them some toys too. it broke my heart..

Now I'm wondering if my area has their giving trees up yet. I learned how to knit in August and after making a couple gifts, I'm going to try to make a couple kids hats before Christmas to give for the giving tree. I also always give a 'fun' gift to go with it.

I'm all BIG SURPRISE that all they feed their kids is crap. And yet they still managed to destroy the stove. It's so filthy that they obviously just threw everything on the rack without a pan to drip on the bottom.</div>

Anna, that sounds horrible, at least you're getting the deposit to cover it. But I'd be super judgy too.

On the other side, we can't get our former landlord to give us back our deposit. It's been 7 months. The apartment wasn't cleaned before we moved in (the previous tenant moved out the day before), but when we left in June we washed down all the walls, cleaned the cupboards/appliances etc, and totally cleaned up the yard (none of which was done for us when we moved in). they won't return our calls or emails, and it's ridiculous. We left it in better shape than we found it, but they aren't willing to give back the deposit.

We even hung our pictures using the same holes the previous tenant used, and it wasn't us who ironed directly on the carpet ... just sayin! Drives me crazy, because that money could be used towards something for the house renos.

Good morning ladies! I'm newer to posting (this will be my 100th post!), so I'll introduce myself here. Though I've only recently started posting, I've been reading the boards for over a year.

H and I got married in July of this year and we also bought our first house 3 months before the wedding. I was super excited to decorate for Halloween and we can't wait to put our Christmas stuff up, but I'm making us wait until after Thanksgiving. No skipping holidays for me. Pinterest also makes me think that I can make all this great DIY stuff, and I've pinned so many ideas. But I get kinda lazy, and so far I haven't done any holiday crafts.

Applejam, your sig picture cracks me up every time. H and I can't wait till the new Anchorman comes out!

We currently do not have any pets, but H <em>really</em> wants a great dane. He's wanted one for so long that I just can't deny him that happiness. It will be an interesting experience to say the least. Our new house doesn't have a fence so that is the main thing we need to get before a dog. We also need to figure out the dog walking situation since both of us are out of the house for 10+ hours a day during the work week. But we're hoping to get one within a year's time.</div></div>

</div><div>I've only met great danes twice, both times at what is called, "Meet the breeds" at a convention of sorts in NYC. You go around and get to interact with over a 100 different breeds. But it's so crowded and I believe the dogs must be sedated to a point, that it's hard to really understand what they will be like. One thing is for sure, they're massive when standing next to me. We met a breeder last time we were there and talked to him for awhile. He said when we're ready we can come out to his large property meet his dogs. He has a whole flock of them. I'm pretty sure that day will be better than our wedding for H. lol. </div>
