Oh god, please don't let me turn into this...

My friend (who didn't give me another scarf-y thing yesterday, more on that later) has 26 pictures of her daughter hanging in ONE room.  I kid you not.  I counted.

And most of them are 8x10.  And their house is pretty small.

I mean, don't they see her in person every day??

Oh, and she got me an 'expectant parents' xmas ornament and a sculpture of a pregnant lady for my bday.  wtf am I going to do with the sculpture thing?  It's pretty (and not tacky), but where do I put it?  And what about after I have the baby?

I mean, I love being pg and I love my baby, but c'mon.  That's just insane.

  • I dont know if it would be weird but could you put the status in the babies room on a shelf or something, or how big is it?
  • All I know is that my H's niece grew up with giant portraits of herself all over the house, and as an only child, and she ended up rebelling at 17 or 18.  She got a tattoo on her neck that said "lil honk-ey" (it won't let me type that word so I added a hyphen) and another tattoo of a mermaid with boobs hanging out, and then got knocked up by some guy on probation who then skipped out on his probation and left town.  She's such a beautiful girl, it's such a shame.

  • We are in the process of picking pictures for a picture wall (like a big grouping of frames, whatever you call it) and will probably end up with a ton of our daughter. I don't think it will be even near that many, but probably a lot. Oops. But a lot of them are with a lot of the rest of our families, not just a billion 8x10s of her.

And I have no idea what anyone would do with a pregnant lady sculpture. The ornament I get though. BF's mom gets us Hallmark ornaments every year. We have some for pregnancy, new baby, new house, and "In Remembrance". I didn't even know they made ornaments for people dying.

  • Both of those gifts would land in my goodwill box.

  • Ha! Sucrets, my SMIL gave me a pregnant woman sculpture too, it's in a box somewhere. I have no idea what to do with it.

  • dani - that's sad.

ama - I think something tastefully done is appropriate.  But EVERY wall covering was platered with a picture.   And pro ones, like close ups of her face.  It was just too much.

Alright, I'm posting and running.  We're meeting friends for lunch and meeting their baby boy for the first time!  Later!

You must have been away on the days when crap like that was discussed.
  • Yeah I definitely missed those conversations.

  • Yeah, that's overkill.

We had 2 picture walls, one of ancestor pics, one of family pics. Which were mostly of me, since I was the first born. But they were in our hallway/stairwell, and not, um, overbearing.

This terrifies me.  I feel like that's expected of me when we have kids, and I just can't do it.  I also feel like those people are the ones who plastered their dog or cat all over every thing before they had kids, though.  And, I love our dogs, but yeah.  Not my whole universe.

I agree, I don't get it. I have a friend who has two teenage step-children and she and her husband had a baby in September. The picture was just of the new baby. I feel bad for the step-kids.

Personally, I think Christmas card photos should be of the family, and I like when they're Christmas related. I didn't even like the idea of a wedding pic on a card. We sent a separate 4x6 photo with our cards.

This baffles me as well. The friend I can't stop talking about today asked me AGAIN last night when I was having a kid. Um, like we discussed last time, A) sometime next year, and B) you said you'd stop asking me that, you crazy lady!! She's the one who used the word "babymakers" in a conversation we had. I also found out they want another baby already and her daughter is all of five months old. She has uterus issues, so on the one hand I understand that she has a smaller window of time, but that doesn't mean I have to be a baby machine just because she is.

I cannot stand posed portraits of anyone. I buy the small package of my kids' school pics, and keep only the 5x7 or smaller. I just hate full color, huge photos of people. I want small snapshots and fun shots and unposed photos of my loved ones on my walls. I'd rather look at my kids laughing at each other than sitting straight up, shoulders back and chin tilted looking at the camera. ick.

Olan Mills makes me want to vomit. I've never done family portraits, and I love the photos of all of us together, having fun. Dress an entire family alike for a portrait and it gives me small seizures.

Oh! And I got a bride/groom statue for a wedding gift. That was relevant to my life for one day, and now I have to find somewhere to put it for the rest of my life? Um, ok. Thanks?
  • My best friend posted a picture on FB of her living room all pretty for Christmas, but there was only one stocking hanging over the fireplace.  There are two of them and one baby.  I said, why is there only one stocking?  She said in her family growing up, only the kids got stockings so she only put up one.  I thought that was weird and unfair!  In my family we all got stockings, including my parents.

  • We also got a Xmas card from friends with just 4 pictures of their baby.  It took me a minute to even figure out who it was from.

I don't know their baby, but I would like to have seen pictures of our friends.

I agree Bec! We have had professional pictures of our daughter done once, and we got a nice photographer to come to the park and do pictures of all the kids (my nieces and nephews) for my mom's birthday present. There were a couple posed, but most of them turned out great. In my favorite one only one kid is looking at the camera, but what they are each doing just shows their personalities so much better than staring at the camera.

They were wearing matching outfits though.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" /> Gotta have a little cheese when it's for the grandparents.

  • I am fortunate enough to have received the pregnant lady sculpture as a baby shower present.   Don't ask where it is though because then I'll have to think up a clever excuse for why I have no idea!
  • I hate hate hate when people fill up an entire wall of a room with framed pictures. it reminds me of every redneck home I've ever been in.

  • Salt you would hate hate hate my job.  Our educational director guy frames the calendars every year that are drawings from cancer patients and lines the hallways with them.  There's no design or creativity, just  a straight line on each side of the wall.  The hallway feels as if it's closing in on you, and most days you feel like you're in a fun house walking up and down hills because they're never hung straight.
  • My bf is an amatuer photographer and he has giant (measured in feet not inches) framed photos of me. Two are bedroom only and one you see right when you walk in the door and it is verry suggestive but in an artistic way not pornographic like the bedroom ones. It was flattering when I lived 5 hours away, but now that i live with him i feel like a egomaniac creepo with myself plastered on the walls
