Over a year, but we've been chatting and flirting since 2007. We know the specific date because we had to submit that to USCIS.

Im in MA, he's in the UK.

We hope to be married in a local diner, but haven't asked yet as the date is impossible to predict at this point.

How did you meet your FI?

On a political blog. That may seem strange, but we already know we are politically aligned, which is important to both of us.

What are you most looking forward to with the wedding?
Finally being together on a regular basis.

Retro and Americana//Diner stuff. Pink/blue/orange.

The diner in my neighborhood where I hope we can get hitched.

If the diner thing works out, the other retro pieces that I love completely fall into place.

I do genomics and am an entrepreneur. Oddly high-tech for a retro gal. He's a civil servant, works for the government.

I never expected to be a bride at all. And never expected to like it if I did. It's a lot more fun than I expected.

What are your wedding colors/theme? Beer is our theme but I have no idea what our colors will be. I've changed my mind a million times. Right now I'm thinking orange and purple but that could change at any second.

What is your favorite offbeat deatil of your wedding? I'm not sure..we're doing a bunch of weird things. Probably that fact that will will be going to the bar after the reception.

Where do you live? (optional) Well, I'm sort of all over the place at the moment (I work in remote camps north of Ft Nelson BC) but "home" is Burnaby

Where are you getting married? Venue? Vancouver. A really neat old hall built in the 1900's and maintained by a volunteer group. Its got character and history (he's a history buff) and is decorated in that quaint style they did back then.

How did you meet your FI? I was second semester in a college in an area I had no friends in (moved to go there). I was taking sciences and all the kids were local and too busy with homework. He was doing social arts or something. We both took japanese (we're huge geeks of many colors) and he saw my strategically placed pictures from video game webcomics, anime and manga (hoping to catch a potential friend's eye). Upon hearing I had no friends yet he introduced me to over 40 the next day! Our table took up a whole section of the cafeteria!

What are you most looking forward to with the wedding? Having different groups of friends get to finally meet each other (our college friends with our 'gamer' friends with our childhood friends with our family friends)! Hopefully every one mingles and has a good time.

What are your wedding colors/theme? We were blue and green just because, but since its a VERY casual wedding I tossed a theme out the window. We were going to have everyone dress up in their costumes (ren-fair and LARP (live action role play) ) but decided because there was no theme and not all our friends do it it was alittle too chaotic. Now all I know is that I have to come up with 4 different bouteniere designs because we have two sets of divorced parents and their respective families - and they don't mix well!

What is your favorite wedding planning idea/purchase? Espresso bar instead of alcohol bar. I am also looking into arcade machine rental (racing or street fighter or something).

What is your favorite offbeat deatil of your wedding? No formal cake (three or more smaller cakes with flavours like green tea or fruit or crazy chocolate). No monogram. No matching-the-freaking-napkins-to-my-bouquet. Oh, favoretest: My brother is my "man" of honor and I have another man and one girl in my party. My FH has 2 guys and a girl in his crew too.

What do you do for a living/dream job? Paramedic on the street part time, part time industry paramedic /Paramedic on the street part time and part time roller coaster tester.

Any random thing you want to share with us? I am so not the person to be planning a wedding.

Share your proposal story: I was down from being away for several months, and we had booked a night out at a restaurant that is one of our favorites (fancy but tasty and not too expensive...Joe Fortes for any Vancouverites) and a fancy hotel room for the night downtown. Before I had flown down the boys at my work were all bugging me about how I didn't have a ring on my finger (we were just coming on 5 years) and I kept talking about how marriage wasn't on the radar yet, no way were we ready for commitment...
So anyway, we were sitting down for dinner, and the restaurant was VERY busy but really prettily decorated for Christmas, and he kept crying! Several times! Every time he tried to say how much he had missed me or how much he loved me, and i thought "what, is he really going to propose? Nahhhh." I thought he was being a little too emotional here, I mean I loved and missed him too but srsly? Then he said something about wanting to spend the rest of his life with me and literally said "...so..." and leaned back to haul the ring out of his pocket.
And plopped the box on the table.
Yup. I looked at it, him (as he smiled through tears) and opened it (and its not a traditional engagement ring, its a band with emeralds and diamonds set in so that I can wear my gloves over top without ripping) and asked "is this...?" And he said "Yea..." so I said "Yes! KYle, yes!" and he said "Really?"
Yup, he asked 'really.'
So then I said yes of course and we akwardly hugged over this little table squished against a banister overlooking the restaurant while waiters zig zagged between our table and other tables squished ridiculously close.
We got free cheesecake though, lol!

How long have you been with your FI? 2 months. Sounds crazy I know but we are also firm believers in knowing when things are meant to be and right.

Where are you getting married? Venue? We arent sure yet... somewhere that will be outside and allow us to have Ford Mustangs all around, including our Mustangs up at the alter.

How did you meet your FI? We were part of the same Mustang club. He was supposed to just come up to help me fix my car and we wound up falling for each other instead.

What are you most looking forward to with the wedding? Everything honestly...but most of all... calling him my husband.

What are your wedding colors/theme? Olive Green, Desert Tan, Burnt Orange, and Black. Theme is Ford Mustangs.

My favorite purchase has been mine silver glittery heels but my favorite wedding planning idea has been the bridesmaid dresses. I can't wait to see them completely made

My favorite offbeat detail about my wedding is all of the details because every detail of my wedding makes it offbeat. We're having a JP do the ceremony and tossing in a handfasting as well, writing part of our vows, avoiding diamonds in both the engagement and wedding bands, not serving alcohol,. going to try and have some firebreathers at the reception if we can find them, just every detail of it makes me happy.

What do you do for a living/dream job?

I'm a nurse at a local hospital but my dream job is to be a body piercer and stay at home mommy once we have kids.

It was around 11:30 pm on christmas eve 2010 and we had just finished unwrapping presents with my mom, brother, his daughter and then fiance. We had retreated back to my old bedroom at my mom's where he started asking me if the band he'd given me for christmas would work as a promise ring ( which started me to tear up a little because I was really hoping for an engagement ring) i told him of course if thats what he wanted it would work. He then precedes to tell me well there is another ring that goes with that one... would you like to see it? I of course said yes I wanted to see it, so he goes into my closet and pulls out a small black box and opens it for me and asks if i want to hold the ring inside it and well of course I did! So I'm holding the ring just smiling myself silly and shaking when he finally says Charlotte will you marry me? I couldn't do anything but say yes yes yes yes and kiss him. he followed that by a just kidding though which brought me to tears and then he quickly backtracked and apologized and said no no he meant it, he thought i'd find it funny that he said just kidding. ( it's an ongoing joke with us whenever we say anything really serious and important we follow it by just kidding it seems to lighten the mood even though we know it's not a joke). I after my shock did think it was funny and we've been happily engaged ever since

All of it. I've fallen in love with every detail we've created, so I'm excited to see it come together.

Black, white, yellow... with a slgihtly rustic/fall theme. But also just fun in general.

My favorite thing we are doing is a puzzle guest book. It's gigantic, Fi made it.. 200 pieces and it's probably as big as a dining room table.

I just ordered shutter shades for the wedding party to wear at the reception. It's goign to be bad a$$

Well .. I love all the details of my wedding, offbeat and otherwise. I love my flippyfloppys, our music, our officiant (my crazy awesome uncle, ordained online), our favors (caramel apples), and all of the homemade details we've included.

What do you do for a living/dream job?

I work at a university... it's as close to as a dream job as I can get. I get to stay in college forever!

But I would give it all up to be a florist or a polar bear/elephant trainer.

On our annual sleigh ride trip in Northern WI, the sleigh stopped for a moment (that's the horses perogative). He took my hand, pulled me off the sleigh and proposed right there in front of my family. I had NO idea it was coming, which was exactly what I had wanted. We then bar hopped (via sleigh) with the family for the rest of the ride. The celebratory mood left the parents and other "adults" hammered, so Justin and I DDed everyone home.. lol.

He told me asking made him nervous, but I didn't back down. Then one day he was holding our daughter as she was sleeping. We were having a regular conversation about something or other and out of nowhere he says "Will you marry me?" I didn't think he was serious, but he was. There was no getting on one knee, no ring, no tears......... But it fit us well.

A lot of things! The dress I have in mind is gorgeous! The invitation geeky wording that is so perfectly us, the table themes, and if I can pull it off (fitting it in the budget) a Zelda & Link cake topper.

Some mentioned above... we are having a handfasting, he will be in full tartan Celtic garb in his grandmother's clan colors, I plan on getting extra material in the tartan for our handfasting. The totally fun geeky gamer wording for the invites and save the dates, and tables, and music. lol and our thai food display at the reception, which is our most favorite food and what we mostly eat out at. lol I love everything about our wedding, it's so incredibly "us"!

He is a computer programmer/data security specialist... I'm a data specialist for SAP (more fun computer stuff), but one day I hope to get back into graphic/web design and run my own buisness.

I have two amazing kids from a prior marriage and fall in love more and more with my FH everyday as I see the bond grow between him and my kids.

He hasn't done the official asking yet. We set a date so we can save accordingly as we are funding it ourselves. But he keeps taunting me with his scheming for a wicked romantic surprise asking. The waiting is killing me. :P I already picked out a ring, a cute heart with celtic knots. I'm not the biggest fan of diamonds. Our wedding bands are picked out too. Beautiful celtic rings set with garnets. Very us.

Zak took me to where we had our first date, a small patch of woods, and we had a picnic that he made. He then get out chocolates from my favorite chocolatier, and I open them inside is my engagement ring (and chocolates.) He asks me if I will marry him, and I ask if he will kill the roly poly bugs and eat the pickles off my sandwiches, to which he says yes, so I said yes!

Skyview Lodge. It is right next to an apple orchard.

How did you meet your FI?

Myspace. He messaged me, I didn't respond. Then he messaged me again and I gave it a shot. I ended up giving him my phone number cause I (at the time) wasn't online much and I had an hour drive to and from work everyday. We talked on the phone for a few days then had our first date at Dave and Busters.

What are you most looking forward to with the wedding?

Seeing him all spiffied up, with his hair professionally cut. And knowing it's the beginning of my forever after.

What are your wedding colors/theme?

Red, black and silver (coincidentally my high school colours - not on purpose, I assure you) with a video games theme.

What is your favorite wedding planning idea/purchase?

The centerpieces. I am making a different one for each table - all video game related. (For example, one will have Mario on his way down the flag to the castle to meet Princess Peach at the bottom)

The cake! I found a fantastic woman who's very very reasonably priced. It's two tiered - bottom tier is an Atari with two controllers, top tier is angled and looks like a TV screen with a Tetris screen shot.

Right now I work at GameStop. My dream job is a stay at home mom. With a part time job still at GameStop.

Nothing super fancy. His mom was at our house when I got home from shopping with a friend. He pulled everyone outside of our house. He had me close my eyes, got down on one knee and said "So is Miss Brittany going to marry me or what?" I immediately started bawling before I even opened my eyes. And it took me a minute to say anything and he asked "So? Is that a yes?" before standing back up. Of course I could only nod.

I found the perfect invites which were actually the inspiration for my theme. There are white pine trees with red cardinals in them with a bright sky blue background.

My favorite so far is my dress, but I am definitely looking forward to all the small details, the little things that make a wedding unique.

He proposed in November of 2009 after Thanksgiving with my family, it wasn't anything elaborate or planned out, but it was special and means the world to me. People think he proposed too soon, but they said I was crazy to be in a long distance relationship, and here we are 2 years later & every day just gets better and better.

We were at a friends halloween party. He'd found an awesome Kermit costume online so I found a Miss Piggy costume. We were both quite drunk(as we have been at every step forward in our relationship), and I decided to give him a deadline. "Chuck, I've decided I want to get married on 12/12/12. You have between now and then to propose." Later in the night he told me he sat there for a while trying to figure out why we weren't engaged. It was a how befuddled fun crazy night. We didn't have a ring even. Completely unplanned. Took a while to get in, but now I have this BEAUTIFUL claddagh ring in sterling silver with gold around the heart and tiny little diamonds.

Share your proposal story. It was our fourth anniversary and he was working at camp for the summer while I planned our move back to NYC. So I travelled to be with him to celebrate and we went out to dinner. It was about ten when we got back to camp and I gave him my present (I said it was just something we could share/for the house and since we were moving and trying to save money there was no need for him to get me anything) He said he had until midnight but I just laughed it off. We hung out with some friends in the woods and as we were walking back to the car, he stops us and pulls me close and starts talking about how it was there that we met four years before and he was so happy and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me...and then he got down on one knee. it was a few minutes to midnight.

It was a very sweet and simple proposal that happened New Years Eve Night 2011. Right before we left to go to the party he hugged me really tight, and started getting this nervous voice. I honestly don't remember the speech, but then he asked if I'd marry him, and then I said yes. It was very short, sweet, and simple which is just the way we like it. :-)

FI and I met at the Willowbrook Ballroom. It is one of the oldest ballrooms in the U.S. that is still in existance today. If you've ever heard of Resurrection Mary, that is where her legend comes from.

We frequently attend dances there. This past summer, we went to a very fancy dance there. FI even bought me a dress to wear to it and planned dinner there before hand, which is unusual. I sort of suspected something was up. But when the dance started, I didn't think anything of it when a ton of my friends started showing up. I had always invited them but they could rarely attend.

Anywho, at a certain point, FI left me on the dance floor and told me to wait there for a second. The next thing I knew he was on stage with the band, who are actually friends of ours, and he is singing our song!!! I couldn't believe it!! He invited me on stage with him. He told me that this time he wasn't just asking me for a dance, but rather to spend the rest of my life with him! He then got down on one knee in front of the 300 people there and proposed. I couldn't believe it! I looked out into the audience and saw several other friends of mine just appear out of nowhere! It was an amazing night and I will never forget it!!!

I am a chronic workaholic. My nights are often spent working in bed from my iPad accomplishing my case notes before going back to work the next day. It sort of drives my fiance crazy that I work from bed (but it is super comfy for me and I have been doing it for years lol). So on 11.9.11 he informs me that he found this website that he needed to show me. I was grew a bit frustrated that he wouldn't use his iPad to show me because I was working from mine. So after a few moments I handed it over and he pulled up a website that he had built just for me. It talked about how we met and made a promise to love me forever. The very last link on it went to a picture of my ring (and by that time he was on my side of the bed on bended knee holding my ring). I love that I will forever have this website that I can go to and that I have been able to share the site with friends and family who live far away.

we had already talked about getting married, but were going to wait until after we both finished graduate school (he's one year ahead of me). we were laying around after a nap, and we started talking about graduate school (this is before I finished my bachelor's). i said that i had come to the realization that i couldn't leave him to go to graduate school. i'd either postpone it, or stay where we were to go to school because i just couldn't be without him. he replied: "really? well that changes things. let's just get married then!" i was stunned haha. ...but he was dead serious.
