Drives me crazy

These are the things that drive me crazy at this moment.

Flies.  They're supposed to drive me crazy in the summer. They are everywhere right now.

Fleas.  I loathe them for what they do to my dogs, and then the money it costs to make sure they are off of said dogs.

Ticks.  Not really driving me crazy at the moment but I hate them.

What's driving/drives you crazy??

Ew.  I second the "fleas" thing.  My dog picked them up at the dog park last week and I'm still fighting the bastards.

I know this is not exactly original, but the flagrant abuse of the English language on facebook drives me crazy.  I'm not perfect, and I'm guilty of the occasional typo, but really.

My Dad is taking Roxycodone(sp?) Not sure if that is the exact name, and I'm actually glad they prescribed that instead of the Oxy's he was on.  He would flip if his script wasn't filled, but that is only because he has a deteriorating spine and is in so much pain without pain meds.

Roxycodone is brand for Oxycodone ,he may be on Roxycontin. My gripe is that all the people that buy these drugs to sell them on the street from pain clinincs are making it hard for people like your father that really needs his medication since Spinal Pain is the worst.I never turn away my regular patients that have a legitimate diagnosis( meaning I spoke with the doctor regarding the course of therapy) but the others that come in strung out with needle marks on their arms I send away.

That's understandable.  On the subject of drugs, as I seem to be threadjacking my own post is... Has any of you seen the movie "The Salton Sea"?  I have never heard of this before yesterday and I watched it.  Such a good movie and Val Kilmer was dreamy but sad.

creepy guys who sit two tables away from you in the library and wont stop staring.  ok so this is more creepy than annoying but since it is happening at this very  moment while i am pretending to do school work in the library, i figured it was worth mentioning.
what really drives me nuts is people with bad manners.  and smokers who ignore the 25 ft rule of building entrances so i have to smell like an ashtray all day. i swear my hair sucks up the scent from a mile away.

This irks me. Not everyone who goes to a pain clinic is a junky. My DH broke his neck and has a spine full of metal. He has 4 moveable vertebrae in his entire spine. He as plates and srews on both sides of his spine in his neck. The pain clinic is very strict with the prescriptions that they prescribe him and keep track of how many pills he has on each visit. They does excercises and what not along with the pills to help with the pain.

Are you told by your supervisor to not fill oxycodone prescriptions or do you decide for yourself who may or may not be a junky and just fill based on your own stereotypes for who is a junky? When DH is not working he doesn't dress up so he may appear to be a "junky" to you since he is not in a suit when he picks up his prescriptions. He needs to prescriptions in order to be up and moving and go to work without being in excrutiating pain.

Hmmm... well, today I was on my way from the gym to the law school library.  I stopped at a deli to get a sandwich and the guy standing in line next to me tells me I should order a salad because I'm too fat to be eating sandwiches.  That sorta drove me nuts.

    It's like:

    1) You're not Brad Pitt yourself.  You're mid-forties and missing teeth.
    2) I just lost over 20 lbs. this summer, thank you very much.
    3) The jeans I'm wearing are a size 4.  So suck it.
    4) ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  Who says that to a perfect stranger?

Loopy, I totally hear what you're saying, but I think so does Jen... if you read her second post, she basically says if they look strung out and have needle marks in their arm.   Down in SoFla, there's an awful lot of shady stuff going on.  I have yet to find a doctor that I find to be a legitimate professional with ethics.  At least in Miami, we live in Latin America with completely different values and culture.

Fleas drive me crazy.  More specifically, the stray cats with fleas which my neighbor feeds and thus hang out in my yard and poop on my lawn and porch and bring fleas into my grass.  Same cats that hide under my washer/dryer out back and bite my foot.  Yep, that happened.  Dumb cats - I've developed an irrational hatred of all cats.

There must be less restrictions in SoFla then. Up here DH can only take his prescription to one specific location to get it filled. He had to declare to his Dr. where he wanted to go and they send over the prescriptions. DH was never given a paper script like they do for say penicillin.

Thus the "irrational".  I know it's not the cats fault - it's the dumb lady who keeps feeding them so we end up with a circus of cats roaming our neighborhood.  Every night when I drive up to my house, I see at LEAST 3 cats scamper out of my yard.  My feet are now covered with scars from flea bites.  And I had to have a rabies shot because the cat was hiding under the washing machine and bit me.

So yeah, when I see a cat right now, my feelings aren't favorable.  Sorry!  Domesticated cats are an improvement, but stray cats really anger me right now.

@ Cate - LOL I have an irrational hatred of cats as well. Dogs are the best, I just can't think any other way!

@ Shoes - Um really? I would have made quite the rude remark right back and probably hit him in the face. Who DOES THAT? That, like, made me completely over the top angry.

@ Loop & Jen - That whole thing kind of irked me, too. I take medications that are Class C drugs and I have to have my script filled at a certain place. I don't think everyone that leaves a pain clinic and gets a script is set to sell them on the street. You can't deny filling a script just because you think someone shouldn't have them. I have had a pharmacist refuse to give me my medication ONE DAY early and I was livid. ** note I worked as a Pharm tech for 4 years***

The only thing making me crazy lately is dust. We just changed our air filters and theres dust EVERYWHERE. I dust 3 times a week and it;s always there. I'm allergic so it's killing me. lol.

I understand where  you are coming from but the pain clinics that we have locally are not like they the pain clinics everywhere else.As Pharmacists we know which clinics have a bad rap based on the many investigations that the DEA has performed to crack down on the places. We know who the Pill Happy doctors are and the name of all the seedy clinics in town. These are just a few hints to prove these people are junkies:
-They come in with pre printed or stamped prescriptions.
-They come to the Pharmacy strung out of their mind.
-They refuse to pay with Insurance and when they are stupid enough ( too high) they hand over their insurance cards and claims get rejected because it Flags as refill too soon.
-They come in asking "oh can I have the Mallinckrodt brand? You know the one with NDC number 00406-XXX-XX?"...That brand actually cost more on the street.
-They walk in literally skipping and as soon as they hit the pharmacy they start limping and sobbing....
-They have a car full of people waiting for them
    -OUT OF STATE ID
just to name a few...There are rules and regulations that I have to follow so I make sure I do not end up in jail because somebody died of an overdose........

I have needle marks too - it's from donating plasma. And as for the stamped rx thing that's how my psychiatrist does his scripts. He just prints them off his comp in the office. I also pay in cash (because I don't have insurance) and I'm sure I probably look "high" sometimes when I get my meds. Hell I look high all day sometimes, my pupils are pin needles. I agree, unless it's your job to discriminate then I don't think you should be doing so.

And I also know the coding on my script too because I had to find out which one was going to deliver the most cost effectiveness. But that's just me.

It actually IS the job of the pharmacist to make sure people aren't getting their prescriptions too soon, getting the wrong drug, getting a drug that would mix wrong with other drugs.

So yeah, when they get a questionable prescription, they have the right to call the doctor to find out if it's valid.  They have a right to find out if the doctor is a valid medical professional.  And they also have the right to report doctors that are prescribing unnecessary drugs that they believe to be part of an illegal drug ring.

BF's sister is a pharmacist, and she had a situation a few months ago where she ended up reporting a doctor who got arrested - turns out he was addicted to painkillers, and would prescribe it to patients who wanted to sell it in exchange for a few free pills.

She also says that on a nearly daily basis she calls up a doctor to say, "You prescribed X drug to Mrs. Smith, yes?  Well, Mrs. Smith is also on Y drug, did you know that?  Okay, well X drug and Y drug combined will cause a heart attack.  So I'm going to alter the prescription to Z drug so she doesn't end up dead, k?"

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Drives me crazy : I have needle marks too - it's from donating plasma.

I know there's a difference, and I understand that at times there can be suspicious people.

Like I said, I'm normally completely against aiding people in any way like that whatsoever. Perhaps things are just done differently here in Canada, but it rubs me the wrong way that distribution is left up to the judgment of one person.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me. I see no problem with checking up on things, that's good. I just don't feel totally comfortable with someone just saying "I can't fill this" and leaving it at that. But maybe that's a problem of the system, I don't know.

They have this whole thing where pharmacists have the right to NOT distribute birth control pills or the morning after pill if their religion prevents it - but ONLY if there is another pharmacist there to give the meds.

Pain meds are in their own market, Bren.  I don't think they can reject antibiotics or antipsychotics or anything.  But pain meds are their own issue.
