Re: Irrational Fears

Spiders. And bees or wasps. I completely lock up and can't do anything when I see them. DH thinks I'm being silly but I can't help it. They just really freak me out.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about spiders.

Sapphire's post reminded me, I really dislike butterflies. Totally irrational and BF always teases me, but it's true.

    Moose.

Yes I realize this is weird.  But I'm terrified.  I literally panic.

I'm also with the shower curtain. I have glass doors here, and when I had a curtain, it was always open. But one of my friends keeps her shower curtain closed. If I use her bathroom, I have to peek first. I don't think there's going to be ninjas, but I don't want someone hiding there while I pee!

I also don't like spiders. I saw a huge one in the parking garage at work--seriously, the largest spider I have ever seen, and ever since then, I'm always keeping an eye out for them when I go to and from my car.

Ember- My childhood home did not have a basement so I too do not like them. I get kind nervous when I have to go into a basement by myself.

Jenna- FI does not like calling places at all. He makes me do it all the time. I don't exactly like it but my current job as well as a previous job required me to make a lot of phone calls so I have gotten better at it.

    <div>Ironic, right?

I'm terrified of moose.  If I'm in a car or in a building I feel less fear, but my heart still jumps outta my chest and I get really panicky. In the open woods or on a path (or sometimes in downtown St. John's, NL) and I FREEZE.  My heart races, I hyper-ventilate, everything.  I literally panicked when I was a kid and would see the stuffed moose at the museum...I thought he was going to kill me.</div>

To be fair, I don't like bacon or Tim Horton's and I can't skate. What kind of a Canadian am I?
In Response to Re: Irrational Fears : I think it was one of the scream movies...I don't know how that scene translated to a bed in my mind...but that's the reason i'm afraid of someone under there and I "Jump" in!  haha...too funny our fears stem from the same scene...
    Posted by allusive007
Hahaha that's awesome. I'm not too bad with my bed...but mostly because there is no underneath. :p I'm not sure what I would think if there was. I'd probably be afraid of it then too.

My house was broken into about a year & a half ago. I'm the one that woke up to the dog barking, went into the living room & saw someone climbing thru the window. Had a panic attack, ran back into the bedroom & woke my BF up. I figured it was his brother (who had just walked into our house earlier that day) & told him this. It ended up being the brother. I called the cops. I don't have a dog anymore. Paranoid & scared to death it's gonna happen again. Plus our house is old & there's a lot of noises - along with two broken windows & an upstairs that is currently unoccupied. Live near the police station but the neighborhood isn't a good one!

I'm afraid of ice.  I can eat ice with no problem (love chomping on ice), but I absolutely cannot stand or sit on ice.  I have been known to go ridiculously out of my way just to avoid a patch of ice on the ground (thankfully I don't have to deal with ice very often here).  Reason behind this fear is that I slipped on the ice 2x within a one week time frame my freshman year in college - I ended up with a torn and sprained muscle and in a cast for the entire winter break (and still have trouble with that wrist) - the 2nd fall was on a patch of black ice (that I saw and thought I had cleared) and was witnessed by 1/2 of the student body.

My other strange fear - I'm not a fan of movie theaters.  Years ago, a friend of mine was bitten by a brown recluse while he was in an old run down theater and because he had severe asthma and allergies (and didn't receive treatment right away), he died 3 days later.  6 months later, friends of mine took me to a theater and I totally freaked out.  I can go in them now without totally freaking out, but I'm not at all comfortable in them and I find something to complain about the entire time I'm in one.

I don't like bees, either.  My mom and my brother are not allergic, but my dad is (I'm the only one in my family who hasn't been stung), so I'm just positive I'm allergic, too.  I run when I see a bee.  The craziest bee story - I came home from church about 5 years ago and saw this blob on my balcony - it was weird - so I ran upstairs to look through the window and screamed - a swarm of bees had decided my balcony would make a lovely home.  I was pretty much trapped inside my home for the rest of the day - took about 5 hours before I finally got a company to respond and come out to kill and remove them (the fire dept wouldn't come, even with the size of the swarm, 'cause no one had been stung) - I had to pay $200 to have them removed and then spend the next week cleaning and removing the "gunk" from my balcony.  The bee guy told me he estimated that there were 2000-3000 bees in that swarm.

I'm 29 and I'm afraid of basements (and attics), too...  I told Patrick that I refuse to move into a house that has a basement or an attic that doesn't have a ladder that comes down from the ceiling...

Oh, and I can't watch Unsolved Mysteries because it totally creeps me out!
