I liked it.
I haven't read the book yet. I started it, and got to about page 20 before I was distracted by shinier fiction. I was afraid the movie was going to be boring or too dense to follow if I hadn't read the book, but it wasn't.
It is a lot of talking. This is not an action film by any means. But it's fairly well-written, and the performances were excellent. It's a team of character actors, so you may well spend a lot of time trying to figure out where you've seen "that guy" before. People I spotted: the Mormon doctor from a couple seasons of House ago; Armin Shimmerman as an anti-capitalist. What would Quark say?!
It's under two hours, and it does end on a cliffhanger, because there are two more parts scheduled.
It is not heavy-handed about Objectivism (Rand's philosophy).
And it was shot in Royal Gorge, CO! I feel a burning need to take a trip west and try to be an extra.
