Good Morning.

Re: Good Morning.

  • When he lived in Florida he did night turnout, but up here he's out during the day and in at night (8-6).  Too many wild critters around these parts.

  • Crnflower - I'm glad your friend is okay.

Clearly I'm not as awake as I thought I was. I kept refreshing the 2nd page and thinking "TK tells me someone else has posted after me" without seeing the 3rd page...
  • Good morning.

Bay, I'm sorry for your loss, I'll be thinking about you and your family.

Snippy, I think my next degree (library science) is going to be completely online. Or at least I know if could be. Do you feel the same about taking the GRE as you do the GMAT? I have no idea about business programs and what they expect, but I think the GRE is easier. It might be just as much of a hassle to take it there though.

Morning ladies, I just got to work. Baby is sleeping, toddler is glued to the iPad, which I'll allow because it keeps her from going to the swing and waking the baby up. It's cute that she wants to touch her, but it wakes her up, which is annoying. I'll be happy when baby starts sleeping in her crib. Bay, I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost 3 of my grandparents and it doesn't get any easier with each one. Hugs to you and your family. ETA, Online school is the shiiit. If I'd discovered it years ago, I probably would have graduated by now.

  • Morning everyone.  I really cant wait for the weekend- I could use a day to sleep in.

Bay, I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather.  Losing my grandfather was probably the hardest thing ever for me, even though we knew it was coming.  I hope you and your family take solace in the fact that it happened peacefully and in the way he wanted.  But I'll still be sending thoughts and prayers your way.

  • I think GRE is harder actually. The GMAT is specific to business related stuff, and that I can do. It's more the bother of finding the ONE place in Sweden they offer to take the test (Gothenburg) and it's not offered again until September.

Also. WTF is up with the cost of an online degree?! FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS?!?!
  • I don't think I'd like online school. I've never taken a completely online course but the segments of my classes in college that were done online, I hated. I like the real-life interaction, which is ironic considering I'm talking to a bunch of people on a message board. I think it's just different with school. At least for me.
  • Yeah, Snippy, I don't know why online courses cost that much more.  To take online courses at my college would have cost me about twice what the in-class courses would have.  I thought about taking them online so I wouldn't have to do the four-day commute this summer, but not for twice the cost.  Fuuuck that.

</div><div>That must be the GWU program. I think George Washington is a huge ripoff. Do you still have Michigan residency? Surely someone there has an online MBA.

Posted by midgetthemighty I just can't be bothered to go to class at a scheduled time. I need to do things on my own time, in my pajamas, from my bed. It sucks slightly less that way. I absolutely detest school though, so there's that. ETA, Online classes at Penn State are exactly the same price as regular tuition, but that's for undergrad. No idea about grad programs.

  • I'm not sure I could motivate myself to do work if I was doing it on my own time.  Structure and deadlines motivate me a lot.

  • Yeah, I think I am going to hate taking classes online. But whatever, I'll get through it and I think having a job on campus will help me stay in the school mind set.

  • Haha Angel, that does sound really tempting. I can totally see how online courses would be really beneficial for you too since you're a nanny. :)

I love school. I'm a nerd. So there's that for me too.
  • I'm with you Bay.  I think I would do horribly with online classes.  I don't really get that much out of lectures because I'm much more visual/kinesthetic than auditory, but I just need the structure of going to class to keep me motivated.

  • With my online program, we sure had deadlines. But you guys are right, you absolutely have to be self-motivated. I did my Master's when I was working full time and single mom to a 7 year-old and a 4 year-old. NO WAY could I have attended classes around that.
  • Midge, that is a big part of the reason I do it.. So I can nanny full time. I wish I'd started doing it years ago, I would have so much money in the bank. What I make compared to what I need for bills is pretty sweet. Of course, that will change drastically come January, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

  • A lot of teachers in the history department at my college insist on us also doing online work (discussions, submissions, etc.) even though the courses aren't being taught online.  That I truly hate.

Posted by adamar15 I'm also a visual learner so going to class was literally useless to me. But I can understand liking the structure part if that's what keeps you motivated. ETA, there are deadlines online as well.. Mostly weekly ones.

  • Good morning, still catching up.

    Sorry for your loss Bay.

I only took one online class and was horrible about remembering to do the reading.  We had weekly quizzes that were open note (obviously) but didn't have any actual exams.

It ended up being a super easy intro to marketing class, but I NEVER did the reading and just hunted/pecked for the answer in the book.

If it had been a math based/finance or accounting class I would have been screwed.  I decided after that summer class I wasn't going to take any more classes online.  It was just too easy to forget about.

</div><div>This might not be there fault. I know when I was in grad school they really pushed to professors to use Blackboard as much as possible. They even thought we were going to be able to continue on with classes via blackboard if the campus got shut down because of Swine Flu. The whole idea was laughable.

  • We just switched to blackboard, but my prof only used it to post grades and power points.  Actually, my sociology prof couldn't figure out how to use it so she kept trying to use the old system, which didn't work obviously.  That was kind of annoying.

  • I feel really bad for Legu in the thread below this.  I couldn't imagine being in that position.  There's been a whole lot of suck going around lately.

Most of them use Blackboard, some use Moodle (I hate Moodle).  The teacher I have for this summer class is going to use Moodle.  I don't know why they push that on teachers so much.  It also really sucks for the people in the classes who are older and don't use computers much, if at all.  I had a woman in my class last semester who needed step-by-step instructions on just getting on the website, let alone using it.

  • I feel bad for her, too.  I can't imagine that any outcome of this is going to be really good unless one of them has a complete change of heart, and I don't know how realistic that is to even conceive of.  I hope she doesn't get an abortion just because he wants her to, I can't see that being mentally or emotionally good for her in the years to come.

  • No, it wasn't GW only. University of Arizona and even Penn State. Ricockulous.

I do have Michigan residency!! DUH! Stupid me.
  • My college used Blackboard for a while then I heard they switched over to their own version of it and it sucks. I'm hoping by the time I go back next year it's fixed.
  • Legu, is between a rock and a hard place.  I hope she has someone who can can talk to in person, who can be non judgemental for her and her FI. (just to clarify, I do not think anyone in the thread was judgemental)
