I would contact the Duke Strings School here in Durham -- there are some REALLY good string students who would play for less than some professionals out there. You couold also contact a local high school in your area and see if the orchestra teacher has any students he/she would recommend.
As far as professionals -- NC Symphony, Durham Symphony both have some really fantastic players. Leah Peroutka with the Durham Symphony is great. I don't have direct contact info, but I bet you could contact someone within the organization through their website.
We hired NC Strings for our wedding next June. I haven't actually heard her play, but she got rave reviews! I am hiring a duo violin and cello for $380 for an hour.
