Birdie I'm a fan of doing as little as possible when it comes to DIY.
i'd do something like what you just did for the wedding. forget stacking boxes.

  • Birdie I had intentions of DIYing our card box, then realized it was harder than I thought and returned the stuff and bought one on etsy.

  • Yeah Beach I almost did that. Since I had to do my mom's twice, I learned a few tricks that I think will make our wedding box pretty easy. I just have to get a few more supplies.

So I tried to Google a Margarita IV and all I got was her:

She is apparently Maria-Margarita daughter of Phillip IV King of Spain.

I DIYed my cardbox, but it was just a big box with a slot on top, not a multi-layered thing.  It was fine but unremarkable.  After my wedding invitations, I was exhausted for any more extensive DIY.

[QUOTE]Enjoy your marg, Ciara! Catholics don't believe in the rapture, so I doubt that Calypso is waiting to shoot up into the heavens. I was thnking that shouldn't things be timed to whatever timezone Jerusalem is?  Or PST, since Camping is in California?  Or is this all just a crock?  (I found Camping's radio station yesterday and heard his voice.  It's scary, exactly how I imagined L Ron Hubbard to sound.)

I didn't know Calypso was Catholic, just that she's righteous. L Ron Hubbard has a bad rap, IMO. When you take Scientology out of the mix, the dude had some interesting things to say. (not crazy volcano alien things).

So I"m trying to figure out when to start out ceremony, but I feel like it might have to be a post for another day :(

    Cliff notes:

    - We're getting married infront of a big fireplace that has huge windows above it
    - Sunset is 5:30ish
    - I want evening pictures infront of the fireplace
    - Don't know if I should have the ceremony time at 4 or 5
    - We're serving dinner

Part of me says to keep it at 4 and then do the cocktail hour and try to grab some pics infront of the fireplace when we can.
  • Hey all. I am pretty much not doing any DIY for the wedding. My sister found some cute cage thingy for the card "box" and she is going to have her husband paint it white Well, she said she was, but I know she means her H.

    Also, boring rapture.

I"m sure he did, Mel, but the alien, theta, volcano, anti-psychiatry stuff bugs me.

Must get going, need to celebrate grandma's birthday now that I'm fairly certain that I"m not ascending today.  :P
  • Apparently I was in the wrong night thread. Hi everybody! Birdie, your card box looks nice! I was lazy with ours and just bought a wooden crate, spray painted it w/ chalkboard paint, and plan to write "cards" on it Tongue out

<div>Which direction do the windows face?  If they face west, you'll want to try to figure out where the sun will be in the sky at 4 and 5 so you don't get a weird glare in your pictures.</div>
  • Yeah they face west. We're getting married the night before DST, so it's kind of thrown off my timing.

On the one hand, that's good because my friend got married in the same place last November and it was glaring in. However, by the time they were taking pics afterwards the sun had gone down. It'll probably be better for us, but we'll have to wait longer for nightime pics.

I emailed my photographer to get his opinion, but he hasn't answered yet. I"m sure he's crazy busy right now.
  • Ditto Drama.
  • This is the fireplace at night:

    During the day:

  • The good thing is our ceremony and reception are in the same room, so if we have to wait until after dinner to get pics it shouldn't be THAT big of a deal. The ceremony area will have turned into the dance floor by then, so we could do some pics while people are finishing up eating (it's a buffet).

Your venue is gorgeous, Birdie.  You won't have to do practically anything to decorate -- it's got good character on its own.

The Rapture dude. The one that is 89 yrs old or whatever. I can't remember his name right this minute.
  • Birdie, that is such a beautiful venue!

Yeah Mica I love it! That's why I am patiently waiting through a 15 month engagement. Otherwise I'd want to have gotten this shiit done already :)

So my anxiety is taking over and I kind of want to email my DJ just to say "hey" and make sure he's still around. He was the first vendor I booked and didn't require a contract or deposit. Now I"m freaking out.

    Missy -- Harold Camping.
  • Have a good night ladies. I'm off to dinner. We'll see how this goes and hopefully I won't want to rip her head off before the end of dinner.

    Thanks.
  • Good luck Ciara!!
  • Ciara - have fun. Keep it short and sweet. That is what I do with my Mom.
  • Birdie, that place is gorgeous!  I just looked it up, sunset on your wedding will be about 6:30.  Of course, I know nothing about the angle of the sun and photography, so I have no idea if it's better to do the ceremony earlier or later.  You definitely don't want your ceremony photos marred with weird shadows due to the sun though.  I'm thinking later, maybe, based on the fact that those windows are pretty high up.
  • Drama, I'm actually not getting married in Louisville so I"ll be in CST (5:30). Indiana is weird with their time zone issues.  I still have no idea though. :( Our ceremony won't be more then 20 minutes or so, so I'm THINKING we'll be ok because the sun won't be crazy low yet. The above picture in black and white was most likely taken not too far off from when we'll be starting the ceremony (according to the sun in the sky, since that wedding was after DST).

Hopefully my photographer gets back to me soon. He's shot in this building many times and he should hopefully have a good idea. I wonder if he's used to being the deciding factor on when the ceremony starts? :)

I didn't realize you were getting married in Indiana.  I understand IN time zone issues, part of my family lives there and part in Michigan.  It always throws me off.
  • Birdie, your venue is beautiful!
  • Dude it SUCKS! I'm from the tiny sliver in the southwestern part of the state that is CST all the time. However, I went to college at Purdue so up until a few years ago, I used to spend half of the year on CST and half of the year on EST because the majority of the state didn't follow DST so they never switched.

And yeah, this planning a wedding 2 hours away thing is NOT as easy as I thought it was going to be!
  • Birdie, you're a better person than I was-we were going to get married in our hometown, but I couldn't wrap my head around planning from 4 1/2 hours away
