Re: Thursday night

  • Oh Leisel - that sounds so awful. Can he not get some kind of medical leave or something? Or does he have his own practice? I know it really sucks that you can't hlep. I hate htat feeling.

Sorry to hear about your dad too, Loopy. That's so sad.
  • Hey KJB - not a medical professional, but I'm happy to see you!

Hi LDY!  How's it going?  Are you getting settled?  Did you have your interview yet, or is that tomorrow?
  • No, I mean 18-20 year olds. They were girls whose parents were extreme fundie churches. And they couldn't function in the world. I met them doing literacy tutoring.

  • Ugh, sorry Loops and Leisel!  I hope everyone recovers quickly.

Birdie, I'm not a doctor, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night ;)

My favorite swim supplier is having a big sale and free shipping right now.  I'm pumped.  I'm ordering a bunch of stuff.

  • Random thought of the night: Would mermaids have permanently prune-y fingers? Or would they adapt and have regular de-pruned fingers. But in that case, if they were out of the water, would their fingers crack and dry?

    Serious thoughts, by Any.
  • Loopy, I assume you're talking to me. :) Happy to see you too!
  • Loopy - oh wow, thats a lot for you & your family to handle, I hope your dad has a very speedy recovery.

Leisel - Im sorry about your dad, its frustrating not being able to help when you want to.

  • Mermaids - I would think there fingers would have a special oil or something that kept them from getting wrinkly fingers. Or their skin would be adapted. The would have smooth fingers.

[QUOTE]Liesel - are they close enough you could maybe spend one night a week there so your mom can take an ambien and get a good night's sleep once a week?  Even if you don't actually DO much (does he get called out in the middle of the night regularly?) it might be enough of a break for her to make a big difference.

</div><div>For the next two weeks, I definitely can and plan on being there quite a bit. August 1 we're moving to where I'm starting school so it'll be a little harder, but I'm going to try and help her out. He does get called in during the night pretty regularly, but I'm hoping one of his partners will switch around schedules with him so that he doesn't need to be coming in that much. </div><div>
</div><div>My dad is joking thought that he needs to come up with something to buy my mom as a thank you. Almost a year ago, he tore his Achilles tendon playing tennis, and my mom was driving him around all the time then. But he was in a walking boot, so it wasn't to this extent. So he bought her an iPad haha. </div>
  • We sent out thank you cards last night in regular post & people received them this afternoon, very impressed with Canada Post right now.

Also got a text from a florist we met with yesterday and he already has a sample of our centrepiece ready for him to see him that he made to look like the picture I showed him. I'm excited to see that =D

  • Any - mermaids have magical skin that is always smooth and soft... *duh* :)
  • Any - I've had those thoughts. I don't think they have pruney fingers. They probably have some kind of membrane or something covering their skin that keeps it from getting water logged. This membrane also keeps their skin moisturized enough above water to keep their skin from getting dry and cracked. Not for overly long though - but they certainly could spend a day lounging in the sun on a rock in the rainbow lagoon.

It's going - I'm so over not working :( We're getting settled slowly, we love it here, but we don't have a bed yet (gave our queen to his dad for helping us move, gave our full to our nephew) so we've been on an air mattress in the living room for 3 weeks, we're kind of over it! We're just waiting until I've got a job to buy a new bed, so it's a good incentive!<div>
</div><div>Phone interview tomorrow at 10! I'm nervous. Almost more nervous because I know he's still just qualifying me for a real interview...I do MUCH better when people meet me and talk to me than just read my resume or whatever. I'm hoping it goes well, it's defintiely not a "forever" job, but it's something until I find something real!</div><div>
</div><div>How are you feeling?? Can you feel the kiddo moving yet?</div>
  • Loopy, I'm so sorry.

</div><div>LOL...I would guess that their skin wouldn't get pruny because they'd have evolved skin that was adapted to water, or maybe water proof. If they were waterproof, then I don't think that their skin would crack and dry out of water because they wouldn't lose water out of water???</div><div>
</div><div>If I remember my cell biology correctly, our skin gets pruny in water because of an imbalance of water in the cell and out of the cell...it's called Hypertonic. </div><div>

Lizzie and Poke - he can get people to cover some of his cases, but definitely not that many. He has his own corporation but the group covers three different hospitals so they see quite a bit of action, so to speak. He's an interventional radiologist - they do things like repair aneurysms using catheters and scopes instead of opening up someone's chest. It's actually a really cool field, but there aren't that many people in the area who do those procedures. And he's a professor at the medical school here and is the head of the radiology residency program, so he's got a lot of shiiit to do, haha. Plus, he just really enjoys what he does, so even if taking some kind of leave was an option, I don't think he'd do it.

  • I'm so long winded tonight. Sorry, everyone!

I also think that mermaids have magical skin.
  • I just noticed that AA has a Knottie of the week.

I want to have Knottie elections. For what, I don't know.

  • Dude the old folks are coming out of the woodwork!
  • That makes sense Leisel. I really hope that things go easy for him. My dad has a hard time taking it easy when he's hurt. It sucks.

</div><div>That is a very cool field! I'm all for caths and scopes over cracking a chest open.   Much less chance of infection, shorter recovery time and all that jazz.  I'm looking forward to my cardio clinicals.</div>
  • LDY, I am making sure that the pups send all of their cute puppy luck vibes to you.

  • Why thank you, Musu =)

I'm currently trying to keep my mind off of job hunting (it stresses me out so bad) and I'm writing my millions of fundraising letters for Team in Training. I'm trying to keep them all somewhat personal and writing notes on the ends of all of the letters I wrote that make it less "this is what I'm sending everyone, send me money" - but my hand is cramping. This fundraising stuff is HARD.

Especially with X and Gator starting at me asking me why I'm not petting them.
  • Leisel and Loops I'm sorry about your dads :( Ldy I'm glad you are liking Gboro! Any since human skin is kind of waterproof so I'd assume whatever makes it do that, mermaids simply wouldn't have.
