[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Unpopular Opinions : I'm curious here, I don't know any moms that nurse in public without covering up, it's only strangers I've seen do it. Do you really feel comfortable with that? I know my dad has mentioned how awkward and uncomfortable he felt being around a woman when she wasn't covered up, not that there was anything sexual about it, but that we didn't want to inadvertently look the wrong way or for her to think she was looking at her, stuff like that.

I do feel comfortable with it. I have to feed my baby if he wants to eat, and he won't eat if he's covered. Would you rather be seated in a restaurant near a hungry uncomfortable baby or one that is quitely nursing? <div>
</div><div>I am more self concious about how much of my stomach shows when I nurse than how much boob skin you can see. If I know I'm going to be NIP, I wear a nursing tank under a sweater so you can't see my stomach. Seeing the top of my boob is no issue for me. </div>

It makes him just as uncomfortable as it would make you, and he won't eat that way, which means he would go hungry. I agree with being discreet, and not taking your whole shirt off. When I nurse in public, you see less of my boob (and no nipple, since its in his damned mouth), than most women show in cleavage at work.

This BF debate makes me think of this:

    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/5/10/15f37bed-5936-4c3c-9a2a-2db2f7a6e1b0.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" class="PhotoLink"> <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/5/10/15f37bed-5936-4c3c-9a2a-2db2f7a6e1b0.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>

And I couldn't agree more. I don't see what the big deal is about breastfeeding.  it's not like you're being vulgar.  It's a breast FFS. 50% of the human race has them.

Or when tehy are in their car and people are sticking cameras in the window? If that was you or me, we could call the cops and say these people are stalking and harassing me. Why do celebs not get that same respect?

Again, not saying it's right - but there's a market out there.  It's stupid but people do want to see pictures of Jennifer Anniston walking her dog without makeup or pictures of Hugh Jackman at the grocery store.  If you have a job in the public eye, it's just a perk/curse of your job.  I've been out on assignments before and run into city officials that are well known to the public and I've stopped them to answer questions about things.  I guess I don't see a difference.

[QUOTE]Breast feeding, formula feeding, I don't care. I understand that women may need to breastfeed in public. But have a little modesty. Yeah, it's a natural thing. But so is having sex and going to the bathroom and I sure don't want to see you doing either of those things! Cover up, there is no reason I need to see your boob flopping around.

Kieran and I go  to a baby class. It is about 9 moms and 1 dad. The dad is  always respectful when a mom needs to nurse and doesn't gawk. The moms are  careful to .not make him feel uncomfortable - i,e wearing nursing tanks and covering up. Yesterday, the most annoying mom basically took her shirt off (on bra or tank underneath) to nurse. The guy was so uncomfortable. I felt so bad for him  -  she was sitting right next to him, so her boob was 12 inches from his face, and he was trying hard not to look, but her boob was right in the sightline to the instructor. I support breastfeeding, but this was just unnecessary. Class was ending in 15 minutes. The baby wasn'y crying. She could have waited.

I totally respect your opinion on the matter and as long as youre discreet I cant really take issue, though it would be nice not to see it at all. My issue is when breast feeding mothers retaliate for being asked to be discreet or leave, OR when they get up in arms when something makes them and their precious spawn uncomfortable and expect to be accomodated. It doesnt seem to go both ways with some moms.

[QUOTE]In regard to viagra/birth control, I think it's nice that men can have their penis issues covered by insurance, but I do think it's unfair that birth control isn't covered.  FFS, so men get to go out and plow you and you don't get a break on something that will prevent him from getting you pregnant?  Just seems dumb to me since they both relate to personal sexual health and I agree with SarahP that it's a private matter and why a woman takes birth control is no one's business but hers and her doctor's.

Well I was never really on board with the coverng viagra thing.. but this also stems back to a year or two ago when it was found out that it would cost WI almost a million dollars to cover it in insurance, when in reality, only 20% ish of teachers would need it.  That's a lot of teaching jobs that could have been created, isntead they were more concerned with guys getting boners.  Which yeah, is important.  But to me jobs are more important.

All in all, I think any private employer should have the right to dictate what is covered and what is not.  Maybe that's a UO, but I think that if anyone doesn't like the coverage their employer gives them, then they should either a) find another job, b) pay for the service themselves or c) pay for the extra cost to be covered.

<div>I'm on H's insurance through his job.  He doesn't have to pay a premium for his coverage, but to add me we pay $465 a month just for the premium.  And the deducible is $5,200 (for both of us combined).  So when I went to the GYN last fall, for the appointment and testing they did still cost me $600 out of pocket.  It's such BS.  It's almost not even worth it for me to have insurance, but I'm terrified NOT to have it in case something major happens.  The premium comes out of his check pre-tax, so that helps a little, but it's still beyond ridiculous. </div>

  • It honestly doesn't bother me to see a baby being nursed even while not being covered up. It does however make my husband uncomfortable because he doesn't know how to react.

However, It really bothers me when I am in a restaurant and a child walks up to their mom and asks for the boob. If your child is old enough to eat solid food I should not have to see you nurse him/her in public, at this point, I don't feel its necessary to have to do while you are out.

  • This is more relevant to my geographical area, but:  I hate the Mayo Clinic.  If I had another option for quality healthcare, I would 100% take my business elsewhere.  They have no business being world renowned.

I said this the other day, but I support abortion.  Not only that, but I believe that many times, abortion is a better choice than having a baby and trying to care for it or putting it up for adoption (in a situation where the baby was an accident to someone that really does not want to or cannot care for it).  I understand that there are MANY MANY people out there that desperately want children and that adoption is the only choice for some people.  I fully support adoption in that case.

What I can't support is children ending up in the foster system.  There are good foster parents out there, and thank god for them, but I have seen too many broken children from the foster system, and I do believe that some of them would be better off not born at all.

  • You guys realize that ED is about way more than men getting erections or not, right?  I mean, yeah, if you take it down to the absolute basics, sure that's what it's about.

But then that leads to mental health issues (self esteem, depression, etc), marital and relationship issues, etc.  I think BC for women should be covered as well...but it's a far more complex issue than many people in this thread are making it out to be.

I don't disagree that there's a market for it - but so what? There's a market for meth, but it's still illegal to sell it. Just because people want to see celebrities' privacy invaded doesn't mean it should be legal.

Also, if you were the type of reporter who stalked a celeb or city official and flashed your camera in their face and taunted them with rude, crass, or hurtful remarks just to get them to blow up and cause a scene after they repeatedly asked you to stop, then I wouldn't consider you a true reporter/journalist. I'm not saying you are - just comparing the two in that your job requires you to be respectful, whereas papparazi are flat-out obnoxious and invasive.

    Does this happen often?

Infants begin eating solids at 6 months (more or less) but require bm or formula until at least 1 year, preferably 2. So just because they can eat solids doesn't mean they don't need milk.

I have never been able to pump enough to have enough stored up, so for some woman that is not an option. And should I go sit on the toilet in a public restroom to do it? I'll feed my son in the bathroom as soon as other people want to eat their meals in there.

To m be honest, I don't care if people are "not  okay with it". I am not forcing anyone to watch me nurse.

[QUOTE]This is more relevant to my geographical area, but:  I hate the Mayo Clinic.

Not all women/babies can pump/bottle feed, so no, there aren't always other options. I'm not ok with seeing chicks with their underwear hanging out of mini skirts but it's still done. People just need to mature enough to look away and mind the business.

[QUOTE]Sitting here in Canadaland where I can go to the doctor whenever I want and have all the testing I need and never be out more than the cost of parking, it horrifies me the amount of money out of pocket you (americans) pay for the same treatment.
