[QUOTE]Shay I'm sorry for your loss. Brandi what are your plans for your bparty?<strong> Steph I've heard cloth diapers can cause a little more diaper rash than the disposables</strong>. There is this awesome talc free powder called caldeson that comes in a pink round containers. It's awesome. Kind of hard to find sometimes but Target carries it. I don't want to go in today, it's a late shift for me. This weekend begins the serious closet cleaning project I want to finish before vacation. As long as my knee holds up that is.

<div>Ah yeah!  Canada has such different laws on mortgages... I read an article on the differences once because I always wondered why HGTV always has their shows filmed up there.  I can't remember all the differences, but I remember it saying that the lending regulations and guidelines in terms of income and down payment requirements are much more stringent up there and thats why Canada didn't have a real estate bubble and subsequent collapse.</div>

Yep- my good friend has used only cloth diapers for her 8 month old and she has never had diaper rash.

I also think she uses the inserts.  I'm not sure what brand you have gotten and if those apply to your choice or not.

<div>So in your mind it would be better for a couple to sacrifice their financial future for a more immediate want than to wait a few extra years?  A house is a "want".  Things like lower or no debt, or an emergency fund, or retirement savings, in my book those are all "needs".  Especially for a just-married couple when so many issues in marriages stem from taxed finances.  I think living with someones financial means, and not taking risks in that regard, is something everyone should fall into.</div>

So if someone pays the same amount for a mortgage on a small home as they would on an apartment and are able to build equity- you think that is sacrificing their financial future?  I look at purchasing a home as an investment.  I will build equity in my home, I will not do that with my apartment.  In thirty years from now when I don't have a mortgage payment anymore I can be putting a lot more money into savings than if I was still paying rent and had nothing to show for it.

<div>Agreed. House over apartment is always a good decision.  But only, I think, if you can afford a resonable down payment without dipping into retirement or emergency funds.  Because then its like you're taking a loan fron your own financial future... and thats not good :-(</div>

If you stop making offensive generalizations, people will stop name calling.

  • I agree that Mer has handled herself well and not disolved into the "Bunch of b1tches, I feel sorry for your husbands" method of replying that is often seen.

<div>It was never meant to be an offensive generalization as you put it - I think most people are annoyed and hate being around people who whine about controllable circumstances and have defeatist attitudes.</div><div>
</div><div>Likewise, I haven't made anything close to be construed as an "offensive generalization" in this thread, but still the name calling comes out.  Something that is completely uncalled for.</div>

Jumping in here, its encouraged in Canada to use your RRSPs for your first time buy - you get a tax break for contributing to your RRSPs, the money you get back can go towards the RRSPs and then when you take it for the downpayment, it is withdrawn tax free. There are certain requirements for paying it back into the RRSPS (a certain amount of years), but other than that there are no negatives to doing it.

Also? Mer is one of the most pompous knowitall twats I think I have ever encountered. Its amazing how she knows EVERYTHING.
