Apparently last nights dinner went SO well that...

... his parents have decided that they aren't going to fight us anymore. They decided that, since I've been making such an effort to bridge that culture gap, they see no reason to prevent us from being together.

Apparently, though, acceptance comes with expectations. His mom and I were supposed to go to Tampa today to get the measurements for my sari blouse (Jess and Ritesh split the cost of this beautiful hunter-green sari with copper embroidery and beading with me), just us two. Wellll, that turned into both his parents and his brother. And the whole drive up there his dad is asking me questions like "When are you planning to get married?" and "Where are you gonna live after you're married? You know you're welcome to live with us." and "where do you think you'll have the wedding? All of our family is up in New York and we think you should have it there."

I tried to be as diplomatic as possible with my answers - "We're hoping for next November, but it will depend on the budget" and "We haven't decided where exactly we're living yet" and "My family and our friends are all down here, so we'll have to determine where best to have the wedding as we get further into planning."

The only real issue I have with a wedding in NY is that most of my family and our friends can't afford to travel, and I don't want my family excluded from our wedding because they couldn't come. His family has the means to come down here to FL.

Hey, that's great news! I'm sure once they really got to know you, they saw you're a wonderful person who will be good to their son.

I would have the wedding in FL and not in NY. Besides the travel issue, it's hard to plan a wedding long distance and in a place you're unfamiliar with.

Ah! I am so glad they changed their mindset! I'm so happy for you and I hope this sticks and brings you all closer together. And stick to your guns - plan the wedding as you have been planning it! :)

I am so glad to hear it went well!

Indian parents are full of questions, and you've been handling them well! Like everyone else said stick to your guns and it will be fine! Have your wedding the way you want it and where you want it.

So excited for you! You and your FI must be so happy! YEAH!

This is really good news.. The fact that they are actually asking a million questions is an even bigger deal cause that's Indian parents way of accepting you. At least for us it is.
