note to self: never call mother ever again. ever ever ever again.
baby mo's first birthday is coming up. i called my parents last night to talk about plans. mom asked about food and decorations. and then she asked me if there would be dol go ims there, and i said no. and then she made sad, "ohh, hmoooooooo" sounds and general korean tsk tsking.
wtf is a dol go im, you ask? they're these little towers that are decorations for a child's first birthday. they're covered in candy or beans or candy beans, and they make little shapes and patterns, or spell out the kid's name or zodiac character. because they make these shapes, they are hand made -- and EXTREMELY labor-intensive. oh, and they have to be in odd numbers, but you can't make just one because then you look like a giant slacker.
i now have to make three of these flerking things. i'm already compromising by making them oatmeal-can size (people have used concrete pouring tubes) and covering them in very large candies. i wish i could use gummy worms or something, but they really should be a round candy, so i'm going to use gumdrops.
yay, labor day weekend of me burning myself with a hot glue gun.
