Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what he did, but I'm pretty sure it was just a personal loan at the bank.  He needed someone to cosign because of what he was using it for, but other than that it was just like a regular loan.

I don't know what your credit is like, but sometimes personal loans can be hard to get. I used a website called Prosper a few times. It's a peer to peer lending site where you sign up, post an ad, and random people fund your loan. It's all through the site, you don't ever deal with the people directly, and they don't get your personal information or anything. I've used it a few times and it's awesome. Obviously the better your credit, the more likely people are to fund your loan, but I got my first loan funded with not great credit. You used to be able to name your own interest rate and as people bid on your loan, it would go down, but I think they're fixed rates based on credit scores now.
In Response to Re: Evening : Haha I was wondering if you would pop in to say something. ALSO -- J is in a FEM class right now, which I think I told you before. Well anyway, his final was actually a final project that he had to do on Abaqus. He worked for like 200 hours total on it and he was SO proud of his final product. When working on it, he realized that finite element analysis is what he wants to specialize in for a living. He is so pumped about it.
Posted by musicalsunlight
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I love FEA (I'm pretty sure I've declared it before).  ABAQUS is the best FEA program.  I love building the models and showing people.  He's getting his masters, right?  Does he need help finding a job?  Do you want to live in Boston?  I'm being 100% serious right now.  Let me know if he has any questions.

Oh, I'm so happy for him!  That sounds like me when I came back from grad school meetings gushing about FEA.
• Musu, I refinanced my car when I got divorced and went into debt thanks to that.

If you're with a credit union, getting a personal loan is way, way easier.  My ex-h did that back when he was a broke intern.

It's definitely safe... the funders don't see your actual credit score. The site pulls your credit report, just like any other bank would when you apply for the loan, and then assigns you a credit rating based on your score. Check out the site. If nothing else, you could use it as a last resort if you can't get a loan through the bank.

• Yeah Muni one of my CCs is with a credit union so they would definitely be the first I'd even consider approaching.

<div>I'm looking at it right now. But I guess I'm a little confused. So, if someone "invests", do I get the money directly to then pay off my CCs....and then LATER I go back and pay off the loan on the website to these other people? </div>

Yes, basically. People "invest" in your loan and once it's 100% funded, the site will issue you the loan. You use the money to pay off the CC and then you make a monthly payment on the site, just as you would have on a CC. Prosper will then give the money back to the investors as you pay off the loan.

ETA - I don't remember how I found the site to begin with, but it was from a legitimate source.. it wasn't something I just googled and stumbled upon.

Did me make it do animation?  That sounds pretty interesting though.  It's so fun when you get your model to work!

I highly recommend him getting his masters, especially if he wants to do FEM.  The jobs with this specialty (at least what I want to do, which is be involved in a lot of random projects and investigations) are harder to find.  If he wants help looking for jobs in a few years, let me know.  His masters should be free.  I'm going to send you a PM to keep some personal stuff off the board.
• Hello! I'm KUI and watching Criminal Minds. Next week is the season finale !!! Sad day.
• I feel like there are a lot of WR questions today, like way more than usual. Maybe it's just me.

Hey Poke! KUI on a Wednesday? Must have been a tough day ;)

I'm supposed to be heading to FI's now but I'm tired and it's raining and I don't feel like it... so I'm stalling. It would be nice to have a nice night together, but my nerves can't take another argument.

ETA - Petal, I thought the same thing. I can't be bothered to make myself care about people's etiquette issues right now, so I'm not reading them.
imageWedding Countdown Ticker
• MuSu, YGPM.
• Angel -- Ok, just making sure I understood it correctly. It does sound like a viable option. I'll have to talk to J about it since it is our joint debt.

MP -- Yeah it was an animation of a square turning colors to show heat, haha. Sounds good, thanks for the PM (when it comes :P).

So my brother is purposely being oppositional now since he's pissed. I HATE Phillip Phillips on AI and I was ranting about him so of course he had to be like "Well he is better than everyone else!" ugh shut up lol.
image
• I understand that Angel - and yes, it was a bit of a tough day. FI and I argued and I was really stressed about other stuff too.

In other news, I went to like 5 different shoe stores and couldn't find one pair of shoes I am remotely interested in. I really need to get some as I need to get my dress altered. Like, this week. I'll probably go "to town" where I can go to a DWS and an Off Broadway. That's soooo far away and always busy though, so I go there as little as possible. But I reaaaaaly need shoes.

Did that annoying AE from last night reveal herself?
• YGPM back, MP!

• Mica - she posted today asking about who registered for china. Strange.
• Mica - She posted randomly on a few threads today, being obnoxious. I'm actually really curious as to who it is, but I feel like it can't be an actual current reg. I mean, it could, but who here is that lame?
imageWedding Countdown Ticker
• Poke - Just the same AE we had but a lot of WR threads.

I don't think so Mica but I stopped reading after she said something about "learning to be good now". It's getting too confusing with people switching their SN or trying to have an AE.
