A "Safe" pill to help loose wieght

Hi
REALLY want to loose 10 pounds before March 10 but, have an issue with major appetite. Anyone know of a "safe" appetite suppressant??  I do work out some also.

Thanks

  • Yes, its called self control.

Exercise and proper diet my dear, its the only way to do it in a healthy way.
  • If you eat better foods that are higher in protein and fiber, you'll feel fuller longer. Also, it's GOOD to snack between meals as long as you make a healthy choice: like fruit, veggies, crackers, string cheese, yogurt. You know the drill, I'm sure. Also, make sure you drink a lot of water. I've been told you should drink half your weight in ounces, so I drink 80oz of water a day. It'll help to keep you feeling fuller too. I've read once that sometimes when you think you're hungry, you may just be thirsty, so you should drink a full glass of water and wait for 20 minutes. If you're still hungry, then eat something small and healthy. Keep yourself active because if you're bored, you're more likely to be hungry!!
  • I agree with the above posts.  Healthy diet, exercise and self control is the way to go.  Make sure that you're eating really healthy foods and that you're eating enough throughout the day so you don't feel the need to binge because you're soooo hungry.  If those things don't work, you might consider changing the time of day you work out-I'm personally starving all night long if i work out in the evening, but not if I work out in the morning for some reason.  Make sure you're getting plenty of sleep-if you don't you'll be more likely to eat more.  Finally, I heard somewhere that swimming actually increases appetite while running decreases it.  I'm definitely not saying that's fact, but it might be worth some research to see if certain activities help reduce appetite.
  • I agree with pp about water because it can help suppress your appetite.  You might also want to try sipping on green tea to replace one of your glasses of water during the day to change things up.  There are many different flavors with green tea.  I know that it is not easy to practice self-control, but when you get the munchies, try munching on celery sticks (always keep a supply of washed and cut celery in the fridge) or healthy cereal like MultiGrain Cheerios.  Measure out one portion sizes in baggies so that you can just grab one.  Other things to munch on - lite string cheese, apple slices, orange slices, cucumber slices and carrot sticks.  GL!  You can do it!

Hmmm... I think this depends on the person.  For me it's the opposite.

My weight loss secret - I eat when I'm bored, and mostly just want the taste of things to keep my mind going - is oranges.  I peel them with my fingers instead of a peeler, and I try to get all of the white stuff off of each slice without making the slices juice me.  I made my orange last almost two hours today.

I recommend the South African varieties.  They are sweet, but aren't sour.  I've had some that basically could be lemons, and that's not my thing.  I like them sweet and juicy.

Not quite a pill... but it's something.
  • I agree with the PP. Drink lots of water and eat small snacks throughout the day or else you will want to binge on the first thing you get your hands on because youre so hungry. I have an issue with appetite and craving really sweet foods. However, I have learned to control it with the right snacks/water. You also have to have very strong willpower in order to stay away from your cravings.

  • If there was a "Safe" pill to lose weight, we wouldn't need this board.

You only have 10 lbs to lose. I know I have about 30 I want to lose, and I know other girls on here have even more. I've worked hard by using self control and working out as much as I can and have lost 14 lbs. Don't try to go the lazy and "easy" way by trying to find the magic pill.

  • if you're looking for an appetite supressent other than good old diet and exercise the only thing that I know of that is "safe" are those full bars. Don't expect them to help you to loose weight, but it'll definitely help you feel fuller for longer. Most people dont have the problem of not feeling full before they eat though...its because there is no self control when it comes to the kitchen. I know for me it's eating when I'm stressed or bored. Try getting out of the house more often, away from temptation. "accidentally" forget your cash or credit cards so you arent tempted to stop somewhere quick to get a bite to eat when you're not really hungry. And really watch what you eat at restaurants. I went to a chain restaurant a week ago and looked at their nutritional info before ordering and their salads were almost 1600 calories!!!! YIKES! Start being aware of what you are putting in your mouth and loosing 10lbs shouldnt be too hard.

  • more fiber and green tea extract. the EGCG boosts your metabolism and reduces hunger. Both are in the vitamin section at the grocery store.

  • Ten pounds you can do it :) A suggestion, try LiveStrong.com. I lost 20 lbs doing this. its pretty much calorie counting but its a great way to hold yourself accoutable for what you are eating. Many people assume they are eating healthy, but when you enter your food on this website you get a realistic view of the amount of calories you are consuming. You can enter your weight and height and the amount of lbs you want to lose a week. Once you have entered the foods you eat it becomes easier, because the food are already on your list. Check it out, with good eating and entering your workouts, you will loose 10 lbs in a month.
  • I agree with all of the above. I've lost 12 lbs in 2 months with the help of better eating and NO red meat. Also cut out all the sugar and carbs you can (some is good and okay, but very very little - read the labels!).  This kind of diet also forces you to go high protein - oh and EAT BREAKFAST!

I started even grabbing reciepes from a diabetic website b/c they are low in sugar and really healthy, it's helped a lot.

Ah I totally agree. I have over 70 to lose and it makes me loose here and there... Just bite the bullet and commit to it or it will never happen.
