Beach Wedding: Groom in Light Grey & Groomsmen in Khaki a No-No?

Last minute question!!!

We're getting married on the beach in the caribbean (leaving in a week!) and my fiance' is wearing a light grey suit (bordering very pale blue), white shirt and vibrant pink/coral tie.

The girls are in a similar pink/coral color as his tie.

I have the groomsmen in casual linen white shirts (no tie) and khaki or sand colored linen pants....was planning to tie together the coral color with their boutineres.

Here's the question: is fiance's light grey a no-no with the groomsmen's brown pants?  I didn't think about this until today when we bought his tie and everyone in the store was calling his suit "grey"...I had considered it more a shade of blue, which goes with khaki....but I don't think gray does...

Has anyone done a gray/brown groom/attendant combo or close?  I can't find photos anywehere on-line...!

Thanks everyone!!

  • My honest opinion is that I love the light gray suit for your groom, I do not love the white linen shirts and khakis linen pants for the menfolk.

I think I'll be in the minority around here, but I just feel that for a wedding, beach or not, the groomsmen can dress a little nicer than khakis and a shirt.

I'm sorry if that didn't quite answer your question, but to put it a little more simply, if you're going to change something about the attire, I'd keep your groom in the suit, and change what the guys are wearing so they match him.

I don't think it's equal formality to have the groom in a suit and the groomsmen in khakis and a button-down shirt. Yes, it's fine when the groom is more formal, but that's two different levels of formality entirely. I think the groomsmen need jackets.

And I agree with jennylove, I just don't like to see guys in such casual attire for a wedding ... but that's a matter of personal preference, not a matter of etiquette or fashion.

  • i say do what you want and what the guys are already doing....dont cause more stress then there needs to be, especially since you are having a destination wedding! it also depends what the bridesmaids are wearing...will they look too formal next to the men?
  • I know what you mean about the khaki and grey. These colors don't typically go together. How do you feel about navy ir grey pants?  I think the shirts if they are nice shirts will be appropriate.  Most pictures of you and the groom will not the other guys in them.
  • Like PP's, my issue is more with the clash in formality of attire than the colors. is there any way the men can wear a khaki suit, or at least a button down with a vest or something? Then even with the grey suit at least the styles will mesh better. GL!
