Holiday Weekend weddings

So, whats your general thoughts or concensus on a holiday weekend wedding? (Memorial Day/Labor Day) ? Do you think its a generally poor idea / inconsiderate to have a wedding those types of weekends or do you think its ok?

I think it is okay, as long as it isn't a big holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving. I think you are generally pretty safe with Memorial Day or Labor Day. However, you will likely have more guest that cannot attend due to other plans than you would during a non-holiday weekend.

I'm doing mine MDW next year :-)

My family and friends had zero issue with it. I agree with smaller holidays usually being safe and bigger ones being tricky. No matter what, I'd run the date by close family and friends to see what they think and go from there.

I think it very much depends on your guests.  I come from a "lake" family and you just don't mess with any of the summer weekends.  I get grumpy when friends plan weddings on a weekend like that thinking that they're doing everyone some kind of favor.

With Labor Day, you'll also want to keep in mind that anyone with school aged kids are likely going to be getting ready for the 1st day of classes right after the weekend and the timing may not be the best for them either.

Granted, I'm biased but I say "no - not OK" but you're never going to be able to please 100% of your guests.  Just try to make as few upset as possible - if it is really that big of a deal for them, they just won't come.

All OK- I had mine on LDW. It worked out really well for us and my immediate family/ close friends. No qualms. Personally, since I have little PTO, I have never minded weddings that were over these kinds of weekends. Then I am not out additional income if there is travel involved.

So, that was the major isse I had with a holiday weekend, people getting kids ready for school etc. Although its one day, I cant imagine if they didnt know months in advance they couldnt get kids ready on Sunday. But generally, Im not a fan of holiday weekend weddings either. I do have several family members who would need to travel in from out of town, so I actually thought it might work better to be on a weekend with an extra day.

My major concern was my dream venue is only available Labor Day weekend. Argh!

I have had weddings over both holidays and don't mind it.   It's really nice having the extra day off to recooperate or to do something and still have a part of the weekend left.   My SIL is getting married MDW next year and I'm excited!  It's out of town so I'll be able to have an extra day to travel home, which is nice.

As long as the people you want involved in your wedding are fine with, I say go for it.  Ours is MDW, and we've had a number of family weddings on both holidays.  The extra day is great for travel, and it's your special day, people should be able to sacrifice a weekend for you.
We were going to do LDW, but changed to MDW for a couple of reasons, school starting being one of them, and my mom strongly encouraging it the other reason.

<div>I tend to disagree, at least in my case.  We are actually getting married the Saturday after Christmas and it ends up working really well for our family, because they will all still be in town and won't have to fly in or drive a few hours up here twice in the same week :)</div>

I vote no- unless you are planning a very small wedding and know every guest personally. Respect your guest's precious vacation time.
