Mederma for scars?

Has anyone used Mederma?  How did it work out?  I've got two scars I'm concerned about...  One on my forehead from a fall I took a couple of months ago which is right at the hairline but rather large (I basically took off the top layers of skin so it's not a raised scar from a laceration).  The other is on my chest (sternum basically) that is a very raised, very old chicken pox scar.  I'm sure the one on my forehead could be covered up with make up if need be, but short of pushing "the girls" up so far that the chicken pox scar is buried in cleavage, I'm not sure what to do.  Will Mederma even work at this point?

I got a bad burn about 3 months before my wedding (on my stomach).  It was a very severe 2nd degree burn.  I used mederma as soon as I was able to and while it helped some, I still have the scar a year later.  No more two piece bathing suits for me (I wore a one piece or a coverup on my HM).

Definitely try it because it does help some but don't expect a miracle.
  • Ditto stephie. About 3 months before the wedding, I had a little accident (a coffee mug fell out of the kitchen cabinet and hit another cup which hit the microwave below and shattered. The shattered cup took a huge chunk of skin out of my hand - looking back I should of had stitches probably) which left a 3 in scar on my right hand. I tried using Mederma consistently and while it helped, the scar was still visible on my wedding day. I just told my photographer about it and made sure he edited the photos not to show the scar.
  • I have a scar on my knee from a childhood injury and used mederma for about 2 months (as directed) and it is now much more blended.  The scar never really goes away, but the mederma does blend the skin tones so that the scar isn't quite as visible.  I also had a really REALLY bad burn on my hand (it took off all the skin in one spot) and the mederma did a similar thing there -- blended the skin tones.  That burn was about 5 years ago, about 3/4 inch diameter, almost in a circle shape (oil on fire in kitchen, long story).  The burn is very hard for others to see unless they look close, and the mederma was a wonder-worker.  I would say if you are going to try it but aren't sure, get the smaller size mederma.  I found that the smaller size tube lasted me a good long time and it was enough.

  • Could you use it for pocked acne scars?
  • Thanks all.  Sounds like it might help with that scar on my forehead so I'll give it a shot.  I'll put it on the chicken pox scar as well, but won't hope for too much there.
KtCa, if your acne scars are discolored, it sounds like it could possibly help those too.

  • Warning about Mederma! I used it for scars on my legs, and at first it appeared to be helping, but then all of the sudden the skin all around the scars started peeling. Now it looks worse than when I started. I'd be very cautious about putting it on sensitive skin like my face.
