Cost of Invites/Paper

You obviously don't have to answer this, but it was one of the topics that popped up on the main community board and it got me curious.

How much are you spending on your invitations, where are they from, how many are you ordering, etc?

We're getting 125 invitation sets from Reaves Engraving. They'll be printed on the 220# white Crane paper (very heavy) with gray letterpress font. We've also chose to get double envelopes with the return address embossed on the back. We're also getting 125 letterpress response sets and 125 letterpress reception cards.

For the entire set of everything, it'll be around $835 plus tax, so about $6.70 per invitation set.

I'm printing out our programs, escort cards, menus, etc, so I dont' think I'll spend more than $150 on all those supplies. I'm also purchasing a downloadable font for $39 to trace for the calligraphy on our envelopes.

Re: Cost of Invites/Paper

  • We are getting around 150 invitation sets which will include, the flat invitation with navy cardstock backing, reception card, RSVP post card, belly band and envelope. The cost for that is $400 for 150 sets.

The program fans we are doing will be $260 for 300 programs.

I am currently in contact with the marketing department at the company I work for and they are working on an estimate to do them here. I already thought the prices I found for EXACTLY what I want are super cheap, so we will see what my company can do!

  • I am ordering 100 invitations, RSVPs and place cards from 123print.com in their premium linen paper. All of this will cost me just over $90! I plan on DIY'ing program fans so I am not sure what that will run me yet.. shouldn't be too bad though =)
  • As we ordered them, with all the add-ons, ours are $5.60 each before postage and calligraphy.

I added a customized "backer" (a pattern on the back of the card), envelope liners, RSVP cards in a custom color,  pre-addressed RSVP envelopes, and wrap around return address labels.

If I didn't do any of the custom stuff, it probably would have been about $3.50-$4.00 each.

Adding postage and calligraphy will probably mean an extra $2.00-3.00 per envelope.
  • Our invitations will be about $4.00 a set (mostly DIY) then another $2 for calligraphy, so about $6 a set before stamps, which will probably bump it up another $2 so roughly $8 each. Wow, that $1,000 got spent fast...

Most of the other paper products will be DIY or bought from Vistaprint with Groupons; so maybe another $200 total for programs, menus and photoshare cards?

  • I bought two invite kits from Michaels for $80. It comes with the invite and response card. I am printing them at home. Each kit came with 40 invites. I am only sending about 65.
  • We are having our invitation suite custom designed, with letterpress. They cost about $3,000. Below is a picture of what were basing our invitation off of - its going to open up like that, and have the RSVP, reception card etc on the left hand side. It wont have the Love thing though on the front, instead it will be our monogram.

  • I designes our and got them done through VP for about $90 with a coupon.  It is less than $1.50/set of menu, RSVP card and invitation.  We did the linen finish paper too.

I bought ours from AC Moore, always using coupons.  For 75 invitations, envelopes, and response cards w/ envelopes the cost was around $50.  I will be printing them at home, and doing my own traced calligraphy on the envelopes.  This was definitely one of my money-savers!

  • Can someone tell me more about the traced calligraphy?

  • This is low on the list I care about since they get thrown away by everyone except immediate family.  I sepnt $30 on save the dates and I hope to do invitations and response cards for under $100.

I spent my invitation money on the veil! :)

You can either print the addresses (in a pretty font) in black and slip the paper inside the envelope to trace OR you can print directly on the envelope in gray.

Basically, you use a computer to print the font you want on the envelope in a light color, such as gray.  Then you trace over it with a black calligraphy pen.  Voila!

  • I am making our invites from scratch. I bought 160 pieces of cardstock for .25 cents each. So that's about 40 bucks. RSVP postcards are being made from the excess cardstock. So for 150 invites and RSVP postcards it is costing about $70 (that's including the envelopes they will be mailed in). Fan programs I will also be DIYing on grey cardstock I bought in bulk for $16. We are having a buffet so no need for menus. And we are doing chalkboard wooden hearts attached to the neck of the wine bottles as escort cards, so no paper needed for that either!

Good to hear! I am really hoping people enjoy them!

This might sound rude but I would much rather give my time (if I know I have it) than my money. So while it might take some time to assemble them (all the cutting is done!) I am really pleased with how much money I saved when all is said and done.

  • I forgot about the programs. I'm also making and assembling those myself. With the help of FI and any other willing participants.
  • I'm planning to get my from magnetstreet.com.  I'm getting 125 of the vertical pocketfold invitations along with rsvp cards, enclosure cards, a vellum sheet inside the invitation, a vellum band around the invitation with a seal, and double envelopes.  It comes to 7.25 per invitation, so around $900 in total.  I won't have time for a DIY project so I thought this was a pretty good deal for everything that's included.  I ordered my save the date magnets from them and the quality was great.

I agree, I love how they can customize everything!  I've gotten some invitation samples of the one I am looking at (the visions of love vertical pocketfold) and the quality on those looks great too.  For the quality, I think the prices are very reasonable- and they have good coupon codes for discounts!
