Ya, could definitely use a reprieve from that. I can't believe how much Grand Forks has changed from '97. (My family took a picture on the curb in the now park where their house used to be when we were there for a reunion last summer. I tried not to laugh as they argued over which tree was in their front yard. "It was that pine tree, no that was in Sandmyers' yard, it was THIS pine tree.")

I mentioned to my dad how the farmers must miss all the moisture for their fields with no snow, and he was like - most of the snow just runs off...shows ya how much I know!

On a positive note, we finally moved into our house! We moved on the 1st and things are starting to come together and look nice :) This weekend I need to tackle a pile of clothes that's about my height - or higher.

A lot of people think the flood was a blessing for GF. I mean obviously - it was horrible and it wouldn't have been a bad thing if it never happened, but the town has really come back strong and has totally been revitalized since then. Pretty remarkable.

It would have been worth it to me, depending on what margin I was making on the property. As it was I was only netting $100 a month so it didn't make sense to hire someone. My friend is renting out her house and using a management company and she loves it. She never has to worry about it. Her margin is higher than mine was, though.

  • Eh, he's applied for some great jobs but we haven't heard anything back yet. He has been doing SO much at the new house though. It only looks nice because of him and the hard work he's put into painting, moving, decorating so I'm very thankful for that.

Filing for UI has been a huge pain in the ass but I think they've finally pushed his claim through so hopefully he'll start collecting benefits soon.

At first he seemed totally fine but I can tell now that it's really taking a toll on him. He just doesn't seem himself right now :(

It would be the route we would want to take. But like you said, it all depends on what the profit margin is. We are in no rush, so we have plenty of time to find something (if at all) that is worth the investment. Hopefully, if we can find something that will make us a good profit, once the mortgage is paid off, we could have some extra retirement income.

Fingers crossed for you guys, then.

I can totally understand how rough it is to be let go. My summer job let me go one year, with no warning, two days before the "semester" began. It's not a career, but I just felt so lost--stressed for money, felt like I somehow failed, etc.I can't imagine how much worse it can be for you when you lose your full time job. Hopefully this is just a stepping stone to something better!
  • Well, I'm going to chime in.

My job's okay. It's a job. My health insurance and whatnot kicks in at the end of this month, but I also have a 90 day review coming up, which I'm a little nervous about. The branch I've been at for the last month has this chick I find really annoying, not because she's annoying per se, but because I really don't want to listen about your loser baby daddy all day.

H's department had two jobs open up, which he's applying for. It'd be like a 25% pay increase, (which isn't saying much, but it'd definitely be nice), so he's been stressing out about that since he's applying soon. If he doesn't get one of the two, he's going to start actively looking for a new job (our company's kind of notorious for underpaying people). So we'll see how that turns out.

Other than that, I'm up to nothing at all.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: life updates : Fingers crossed for you guys, then.

Thanks, Natesy!! I agree with the bolded part. I want him to go to a job where he feels good about the work and appreciated by his boss. This was not that place!

Haha, oh I get the reference, but it still sounds funny to me!

  • I told N we need to go to Disney, Hawaii, Indiana, New Orleans, and the Poconos this year. We need about four part time jobs apiece, lol.
