African American Weddings

Need some advice,,motivation, determination, and most of all prayer

Ok Ladies I need some help advice and most of all prayer,

So you may  not know but FI and I live in different states. He lives in Atlanta and I live in Baltimore. After the wedding I will be relocating to Atlanta. SO that means finding a JOB. Well the economy is bad and jobs are scarce, but it is really bad in Atlanta and the job market is HORRIBLE. As I have said before I need some help and most of all prayer.  Currently I am a teacher, I have two masters degrees and I have a lot of experience doing different things. My undergrad is in Criminal Justice with a minor in political science, my first masters is in Administration and Supervision. My second masters is in Professional Studies with a concentration in Human Resources. Lastly I have a certificate in management and leadership and another one in grantwriting.

I am starting to look for a job but reading the blogs and the newspaper everyday is a bit discouraging. They talk about how hard it is to get a job in Atlanta. I dont want to cause a financial hardship on my husband early on in the marriage SO I HAVE TO GET A JOB!    I wanted to get an early jump on looking for a job. I am not getting marring until May and I am not moving until June.  But based on how bad the market is, I am starting now.  What advice do you ladies have? Anybody know anybody in Atlanta that is hiring or can give me the job hook up.  I have an extensive resume. I have taught but have done other administrative things as well. For example I have dont Human Resource stuff as well as a program manager for two different companies as a part time.   I dont really have to teach. I am willing to take another job until I get another teaching job.  Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. If you are a Knottie that is hiring or know someone that is, send me a private message and I will send you my resume.  I have already started to pray. Now I have faith....but you know faith without works is DEAD!   Help...I know its not really wedding relatied, but it kinda is.  This is causing stress on us already and I dont want it to.

  • HEY girl!!! It will be ok. What God has for you, even unemployment, is for you!

That being said I would check out KIPP schools in Atlanta. They should have their positions for next yea open now. Also consider working for the county office, they also have several positions. Good luck!

  • Stay off the blogs b/c they are just feeding a negative thought. Faith & Doubt cant work together. If you have faith that HE is going to do it then it's done no matter how bad the economoy is! Don't get discouraged b/c you will definitely find something! Definitely sending up a prayer for you. Thank him in advance :D

  • Have you tried joining Linkedin?  I think thats like the professional version of facebook but with the added benefit of being able to attach your resume.

I know it might be hard to look at it any other way but in mentally classifying "financial hardship on my husband" I would ask you to consider that the vows don't state a choice between either/OR (sickness or in health, richer or for poorer), they state your pledge to be a team no matter what:  sickness AND in health;  richer AND for poorer.   keeps it lifted up in here regardless.  gotchu girl.

  • I agree with the other sistahs.. Stay off the blogs because that is only pushing you further in a hole and making you discouraged.. Keep your faith and know that you are highly favored, skilled and blessed. You have a extensive resume with multiple traits, because you are stepping out on faith and following your husband to be he will provide. Keep pushing and praying until something happens..... Watch how he open doors of opportunity for you.. :-)

  • Im praying for you. The God we serve is an able God and everything is done on his time. As long as you show you have Faith in him...he will provide ! Im second and thirding pp. Everything will work it self out. Let your soon to be husband take the lead as well, he has your back thats why he's becoming your hubby !
  • We're praying for you. I'm work in Buckhead, but live in Lawrenceville (Gwinnett County).

    When are you relocating?

Is there a certain part of town that you're looking for a job? Or just Atlanta in general. As you may or may not know, depending on where you're going to live, traffic is no joke. It takes me about 45 min - 1 hour (or more if there is an accident or rain) to get to work. Let me know and I'll check around with people I know about open positions.

  • Have you thought about teaching at the collegiate level. I would look for jobs there as well since you have the background. Also since you have a degree in criminal justice maybe look into working at the states attorneys office. Yes it may be a paycut but once you get in there and show em what you workin wit you should move up pretty quickly.

  • Fulton County school system posted an announcement for teachers. ADP here in Atlanta also has a lot of different jobs available. CoCa cola has some open positions and if you are looking to teach on the college level GA Perimeter college and Westwood are looking for instructors. Northside Hospital also has positons depending on what you want to do. I live in North Atlanta so most of the ones I have seen are in the Roswell Sandy Springs Alpharetta area. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

  • I 2nd everything MsAmeera said. Fulton County schools always has postings. If you are certitied in Science / Math you will get snatched up quick! My mom retired from APS after 34 yrs....dont look at the blogs they make life look so much worse. Also, KIPP schools are growing and they have a fellowship program for teachers that aren't certified in Georgia, but since you are teaching now it shouldn't be hard to get certified down here. I work for Home Depot and they have TONS of positions open, some in HR too.

  • You can always get on the substitute teaching roster. My mom subs with Independent Day Schools (they pay better than the public schools). Check out the Teachers R Us organization for substitutes. All they do is independent schools.
