in Wedding Woes

My doc started me on a low dose of glyburide yesterday.  He didn't want to, but decided to have me take it for a week to see what happened to my fasting numbers.

This week the fasting numbers were 103-109.  I took the pill last night before bed and my fasting number this morning was 82!

As much as I didn't want to have to be put on medicine, I do feel relieved today that this will help.

    That's great news.  I get not wanting meds, but sometimes it is really important.

    It really helped me as well. The only downside was going for the NST 2x per week. While it eased my mind (and the docs) it was such a pain.

    As far as I know, I'll just have the NSTs 1X/week.  The first one is next Thursday.

    I realized that the medicine is necessary so I just have to do it, and I'm ok with it.

    I had weekly NSTs to the very end.  I enjoyed them.  They'd turn on Mickey for the kid.  I'd kick up my heels and relax.  Sometimes I'd fall asleep and forget to push the button though.

    what is the side effect/danger of the meds? I'm curious because SIL is adament about not going on them for her GD.

    My doc was going over it and what I heard was "blah blah blah fetal death."

    That's why you have to do the NST's. To make sure baby is healthy.

    Fetal death could happen if you DON'T take the medicine.

    Barbie - is she against taking insulin?  Does she know that's something that her body produces (or in this case doesn't produce enough of) naturally.   It's not like she'd be taking medicine that's going to make her baby grow extra limbs or something.   Geez louise, people are dumb.

    When I asked about the risks and side effects yesterday, my doctor told me there really weren't any.  And especially if you consider what could happen if you don't take the meds when you need to.

    I just personally don't like taking meds.  It's just a thing I have.  I don't even take anything for a headache.

    Nothing personal, Taw, but I have such a hard time understanding the mindset of being anti-meds (outside of pregnancy), especially not even taking anything for a headache.   It's just so not me that I can't fathom it.   Of course, I'm taking 5 pills a day for numerous issues, not counting the days I take headache medicine, sinus medicine, cold medicine, etc. etc. etc.  And if I ever have any serious pain, you better believe I'm getting some of the heavy stuff.   ;)

    i'm not sure if her doctors were talking about giving her insulin or an actual medication - but she's not doing well controlling her diet - so she's probably going to need something. (Part of her problem is that she's a toothpick, and losing weight on the low carb foods she's been eating)

    I tried to explain the whole insulin isn't foreign to your body concept - but she wasn't getting it. I did refrain from telling her that it comes from pigs.

    I can't even explain my reasons, because I don't really have any.  I have no problem with DH taking meds or even giving them to my kids.  It's just weird.  I've always been all "Oh, I'll be fine."  Luckily, I don't get headaches all that often or have any ailments that would require frequent medication.  ::knocking on wood::
