Outdoor wedding venue on a budget, who has a barn? help help help :(

My husband to be and I want/need to have a fairly simple and cheap (ha) wedding. This means we need somewhere that will allow us to take care of providing our own food (we both work in the restaurant industry..we have friends that will "cater" for us)  our own alcohol (again, its good to have bartender friends), and stay within our venue budget.. I'm talking we would be pushing it with anything more than $1000. I don't even want to spend that much if I don't have to.  So ideally we need a venue that ISN'T typically a wedding venue.  We are cool with renting our own tables and chairs, possibly even a tent, if we have the space to do so.  I'd do it in my mom's backyard if it wasn't one giant hill.  Can anyone offer any suggestions? Anyone have a random uncle joe with an empty barn out back?   I've looked into renting pavilions in Atlanta parks, but they don't allow you to serve alcohol, so thats out.  I'm also looking into Indian Springs state park, not sure if they allow alcohol?  Any suggestions, please please please...I'm sooo frustrated and overwhelmed with this :(.  I'm so ready to be done with this stage of the planning . argh.

    Yay!
We would like to do it as close to the metro atlanta area as possible for simplicity sake, but we aren't picky about that.  We wouldn't mind venturing further away for the right spot.  We haven't set an exact date yet but we'd be looking at April/May 2013.
  • Soo... Georgia State parks don't allow you to bring in alcohol. GRRRRR Why would somewhere that offers up wedding reception amenities have alcohol prohibited.  WHAT KIND OF WEDDINGN DOESN'T HAVE BOOZE!?  this is so frustrating.  Sweetwater or Indian Springs would have been perfect otherwise.  :(((
  • So I found my venue over 6 months ago, but I was looking for the same things. These were some of the venues we looked at. I think most of them are in your price range although unfornatlnty I can't find the excel spread sheet of venues I put together.

http://www.foxhallsportingclub.com/ (LOVED THIS ONE, and in your price range)

  • I have prices for all those and they are pretty pricey :( There is a new place in Eatonton I found where I will be booking my wedding called Crooked Pines Farms! Let them know Tiffany Wilcox sent you! It is 100/hr ! Those other places are around 4000+
  • Yeah, I've looked into all those places.  Densmore farm was doable, and is actually near my mother's house which would have been convenient, but again, its a no-alcohol venue.  Why don't any of the places that are so perfect in every other way want to let my guests and I celebrate the occasion with booze...I just don't get it.  My friends would never believe me if I tried to tell them it was going to be a dry reception.

Anyway, thanks for the info! I'll get in touch with Crooked Pines and see how it is.  Hopefully my man will be cool with it being a little ways away.  It looks about an hour and a half to two from atlanta, not too shabby.

Check out Perry's Landing... perryslandingvenue.com. It's right outside of Augusta. It's a brand new venue, and is gorgeous!!! The owner is a joy and will work with your needs. She has a garden venue, and a barn venue, so be sure to look at the photos of the barn.
  • perry's landing is $3500.. out of budget.

Here is a barn in Lula, GA.  I do not know the price though

There are other places in Augusta, GA you could use. Like Julian Smith Casino or Julian Smith BBQ Pit (you can get married outside, reception inside... they have a gazaboo you can get married at) or the Old Government House.  Here is a link to those http://www.augustaga.gov/index.aspx?NID=1086

Also in Augusta is the Marion Hatcher Center (can get married outside) http://www.mhatchercenter.com/gallery.cfm

There is also the Savannah Rapids Pavilion in Augusta. Here is a picture http://kelli-sam.nearlyweds.com/sites/index/423167?is_framed

There is also this place but it's $2000 http://perringuesthouse.com/index.html

Here is a place in Union Point, GA http://www.thecorryhouse.com/Location.html

Hope that helps... sorry it's not Atlanta but that's not where I am from! :-)

Thanks, I'll check these places out too.  My Fiance doesn't really want to go too far outside of ATL but, I think for a nice venue at the right price I can convince him.
  • Check out Court Street Livery in Washington, GA.  My husband's company works there a good bit and I went with him a few weeks ago.  I think it's a great little "hidden" venue.  No one seems to know about it.

Barn venues figured out they are the trend right now so they are definitely not the cheapest.  If anything, they are more expensive than many mansions and antibellum-style venues these days. It will change again soon but for now, barns are the "it" thing.
  • The rock barn in canton ga
  • i fell in love with The Green Bell Barn & Bed in Perry, GA. its 2800 for the barn for 3 days which is for setting up, the ceremony & reception, and then clean up day. if you visit it, you will definitely LOVE it,
  • I have been to Crooked Pines and their barn is gorgeous. They are decently priced too. I think when we called they were offering a discount of a $2,000 package if we booked our event before December 31st. They said it was normally $4,000. It includes a ton of items in their package too. We are still looking, but I am pretty sure we are going to book that place for next fall!
