Anyone around for an Evening Thread?

Re: Anyone around for an Evening Thread?

  • Lol, Aryn. It isn't that bad, but I can make it that way with little effort. There are times when it is stronger than others. The farther you go into the country, the worse it is. J's family is all from the country and man, it is funny to hear them sometimes, especially his dad. J has a much stronger accent than I do.

Weren't you around for the vlogs? ;)

  • I love that 16 people were nice (or bored) enough to take the time to tell me what shirts I should keep in my other thread. It's so hard for me to get rid of things, it's nice to get some outside opinions.

  • Musu - my FI likes my voice because I don't actually have a southern accent. I don't know why. A lot of people over there think I'm Canadian. I would best describe my accent as "Generic American" lol. He says he really dislikes most of the American accents though. I've always had a thing for the British Accent.

<div>You asked a bunch of women to talk about clothes. What else were you expecting? LOL</div>
  • Hi everyone! I hope everyone's having a great evening!
I spent some time with my MOH and another friend this evening. It was fun! I'm on the couch right now enjoying a grasshopper (the drink, not the insect) and relxing.

    Musu I love the pic!

  • It is interesting who the southern accent affects and who it doesn't, Poke. If I had any legitimate reason to develop a southern accent, I would. I think they are adorable.

  • Thanks Chels! :) I like yours too, reminds me of when Tory looked like that! And makes me excited to get Willow soon. :)

Chels was one of the few from the vlogs that sounded like everyone else I know. ;)

  • Musu, I kinda remember that but I don't think I watched them. Or actually I think I watched a couple but was still too new to really know who these women were so I felt like a straight creeper and stopped.

Haha! Well here is one of mine, if you would like to see that I don't sound like a total northern hick:

  • And I'm watching that movie "I know who killed me" and ..... I don't understand. Basically they found the girl that was abducted but she's insisting that she's someone else. No one believes her - and at this point in the story I don't know if it's really her or if there is some effed up thing in her head.  You'd think they'd have a DNA test done just to make sure though......

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Anyone around for an Evening Thread? : Depending on the person, it may have been legit or fake.  When I moved from Minnesota to Michigan for college, I started changing the way I speak to fit in.  It sucked when you would open your mouth and people could tell you weren't from the area.  The first month of college, my "Minnesotan" accent apparently was pretty bad even though I barely had one at all (just a subtle one on my O's).  I was sick of people pointing it out so I worked on it.  DH still laughs at me when I come home from a visit back in Minnesota because my accent comes back a little :) <strong>But then again, she may have been doing it for attention too.</strong>

We were pretty sure it was this, but who knows. Either way, we probably should have been nicer to her. I'm FB friends with her now though and we talk every once in awhile... so I guess she got over it. I actually probably wasn't mean directly to her, I probably just talked about it behind her back... because I was nice like that.

We're actually in the same state, just completely opposite sides. I never remember that I'm technically in WI though.

  • Sometimes FI likes to talk in a British accent and it drives me absolutey nuts. I hate it. He's really, really good at it, but something about the fact that it isn't his real voice irks me. I always ignore him until he returns to his normal speaking voice.

<div>FI likes to do this with an American accent. He calls me "Amander" when he's doing it. I've gone as far as to punch him in the arm before. </div>
  • I would enjoy listening to people's logs, but I don't think I'd do one myself... I hate my voice.

  • I think Tory's voice is the best part of my vlog but that's just me.

  • Poke - When I picture your FI saying your name in his accent (which I've never actually pictured til just now, but still) I picture Jude Law in The Holiday talking to Cameron Diaz, whose name was Amanda in the movie. Cool story, right?

  • So weird question.  Anyone have nieces and nephews?  Would it bug you if another aunt kept posting on the facebook wall of the mom saying "hugs from (kid's) favorite auntie!!!"?

I find it really rude to constantly cal yourself the favorite ______ of someone when there are multiple ______"s to that person. (insert any relation into the blank).

Can he do the accent well?  I would think it would be difficult to do an American accent since they vary so much.

I don't have any nieces and nephews, but I have two little cousins who I basically consider that way. They are 1 and 4 so they pretty much feel like nieces and nephews to me. It would weird me out if my brothers were always saying they were X's favorite relative. Or I guess the next most relatable thing would be if my brothers or cousins said they were my grandparent's favorite grandchild. So yeah, that would irritate me.

  • Chels, that would bother me too.

hahah. Yeah, our 'o's are what everyone notices, it seems. Whenever I try to make myself sound southern, it ends up sounding like a British southern hybrid disaster, lol.

You do have a cute doggie :)

And realistically, your accent is pretty close to what I used to sound like before I moved to Michigan.  I've finally learned to say Minnesotan without it sounding like Minnesooooootan which I consider a huge accomplishment.

  • Basically it's technically FI's nephew (but he'll be my nephew quite shortly).  It's the son of FI's brother and SIL.  SIL's sister is the one who constantly posts this on SIL's FB, and for some reason it bugs the shiit outta me.  I feel really strange for also being afraid she says this stuff TO him. He's only 15 months, but sheesh their minds are like sponges at that point.
  • Musu, so I paused the video to talk about the 'o's. I just got to Tory's bark and my dogs all went nuts. Tory is super cute!
