s/o cosmetic surgery

Friend is getting lipodissolve and not telling her BF.

I don't understand it, but it's her money and her body.  ::shrug::

I do think it's shady that she's not telling her BF.

Is there a particular reason that she's not telling him?

If the results are dramatic enough (I'm not sure how lipodissolve compares with liposuction), then won't he notice anyway?

Is there a lot of bruising with this? What is she going to tell him when she looks like she's been beaten with a pipe?

I would think he would notice.

She's pretty vain, and if it makes her happy, by all means.  But I disagree with not telling her BF.  I mean, she can just say, "i'm getting this done, it makes me happy, you want me happy right?".

I'm pretty sure it's an office procedure.

Friend said bf likes her the way she is, and wouldn't agree with plastic/cosmetic surgery.

It's not really his choice but either way, I think if you're in a serious relationship, you should probably tell your SO that that is what you're planning on doing.

My feelings as well.  I love her BF, and friend so I hope it doesn't cause an issue.  I won't be the one to say anything at all.

This was a radio bit here the other day.  Girl had implants done and didn't tell her LDR b/f.  He thought she was cheating b/c she was incommunicado.  Nope, homegirl was just laid up at the hospital/home for a week in a painkiller induced haze.  B/f was PISSED.  The girl was like, "WHATEVER, you don't know me!"

For FI he'd be concerned more with my self esteem issues than with the actual surgery, though any elective surgery would bother him. If I was in a disfiguring car accident he'd certainly support any decision I made to correct it, but for an elective surgery? I think it might be an argument.

I'm of the (possibly unpopular) opinion that any form of elective cosmetic surgery is a sign of deep seated body image issues and that the money would probaby be better spent on therapy.

Agreed 100% TD.  I feel like I have insecurity issues, until I spend time with this friend, then realize I'm full of confidence.  It's upsetting that her internal dialogue is downright awful compared to mine.

I guess I don't understand what's so wrong with having a flaw. We all have at least one.

I understand if you've lost 300lbs and your skin is hanging to your needs, but I don't think this is the type of thing that's keeping plastic surgeons in business.

I'm going to say that there are circumstances where I would want elective cosmetic surgery.  If I'm having skin on my face/neck/chest/visible area removed for testing, I'm calling a plastic surgeon.  Also, I have a skin tag from pregnancy that is hella annoying.  I'm considering having it removed, which is something I would deem elective cosmetic surgery.  I don't consider that a serious issue - I consider it a "OMG this thing is always in the way!" problem.

I have body image issues, too, but thankfully, my totally irrational fear of losing self-awareness and control through getting knocked out/drunk/high win out. Maybe therapy would be a bad thing in this case. Tongue out

Friend has a frowny tummy, but I don't know if lipodissolve would really solve it.  And of course person performing it isn't going to say, "I really don't want your $800, so keep it!".

Nicole, my mom had cancer in her nose. She had a great doctor and only has a very slight dent, I'll call it. People don't notice it, heck I can barely see it.

She was very self conscious about it for a few months after her surgery. You know what, she soon realized how blessed she was that it didn't spread and she has a nose. After some time she didn't see a need to anything more about it.

I think if it was a bigger dent she would have proably seen a PS, but thankfully it wasn't.

She has extra fat surrounding her belly button (totally normal) and more on top than the bottom.  Which would weigh it down, thus giving the illusion of a frown.

    Ahhh I see.

Then that would certainly be noticeable to her BF, especially right after when she has some swelling.

I don't count this as elective. If you need something removed for testing, there is a medical reason and by all means I would seek out a doctor who could remove it with the least amount of scarring. Skin tags and moles can be annoying and painful, so there's medical validity to having them removed. There is no medical reason for a boob job or lipo.

Duckis, just to clarify... is a boob job always elective?

Such as... if you have a mastectomy, is a breast augmentation acceptable?

I am asking because to FI this would still be elective. To me it's a necessity.

I'm with Duckis on all of it, of course, with the exceptions of disfiguring accidents or cancers etc.  And I would bet a whole year's paychecks that CW's boobs are perfectly lovely and of charming proportion.
