Would you ever register for an iPad?

Re: Would you ever register for an iPad?

  • I guess I feel the same way as a lot of PPs.  I just don't feel like an iPad is an appropriate registry gift.  I understand that every couple has their own hobbies and interests, but even if you were a computer geek, I'd still say no.  I love purses, but would never put a Coach bag on my registry, no matter how bad I wanted it.  It's not about price for me as much as it is about the need for the item.

Maybe it's silly and corny, but to me, most of the traditional gifts are about setting up a home.  And even if my FI will never put his hands on a KitchenAid mixer, we will enjoy the cookies and breads and treats together.  A Wii or different games can at least be used together, theoretically. I don't think I would buy someone a Wii, but I recently saw what I thought was a really cool gift for a young couple who loves to entertain: their best friends knew they wanted an ottoman and bought them one of those that opened and filled it with tons of board games and fun things.

  • Oh yeah, I didn't actually answer the question: despite having registered for a video game system, I wouldn't register for an iPad. To me video games, even if everyone knows that I don't really play them and they're just for H, are kind of a social, household thing. Friends come over and play them. An iPad or laptop is more just a personal gift in my mind, nothing to do with hosting people or us setting up our home.
  • I promised my FI before we got engaged that we could put a PS3 on the registry. I don't expect anyone to buy it and in the comments section I mentioned that it was a promise to the boy.

However, I would totally go in with a bunch of other people to get something like that for a good friend. Not an iPad, because that's only fun for one person, but a game system or something they can use together.
