Yeah, I was a little surprised to hear this brought up too. Every congregation I've been in has had multiple ministers, at least one female, and I've been grateful for that.

Doesn't mean it's that way everywhere, by any means.
• I was under the impression that global warming itself isn't the issue. The political issue is whether or not it's man-made and whether or not we should spend time and money trying to do anything about it. Which seems obvious to me, but I'm not a meteorologist or environmental scientist. I don't think I've heard a politician come out and say it's an outright hoax.

Not weird at all. I think they're issues we should all know more about.

My favorite part of confirmation classes was getting to go to all of the other churches and synagogues in the area to learn about how our little corner of Christianity fit into the spectrum.
• Thanks Heelsy! I think you guys know I did my masters in a lot of classes surrounding this stuff... but it does get fuzzy after a year or two away, especially living in an area that is mostly Catholic and Jewish.

I then got this "what have I ever done to you? Please leave me alone!!!" PM from jessjo, so I deduce that she was angry I told moose to stop listening to crazies. It's like one of those geometric proofs. If this equals this, and that is a result of this, then that equals this. Get it? Jessjo = BSC any way you look at it.

• A PhD is a big accomplshment, its not something that most people consider a "eh, guess I'll do it til something else happens". DH would never put me in the position to choose between him and an education.

A little late to this one but, dude, are you even reading what Rach is writing? He told her he would understand if she wanted to stay behind for a year to finish her PhD but she is choosing to move with him. Seriously, who thefuck are you to judge someone else's choice like that, anyway? Call me a bandwagoner but you get on my last frigging nerve, JessJo. And that is an accomplishment in and of itself as I usually try to distance myself emotionally from people on the internet that I don't even know. STFU. You are ridiculous.

Wow, I'm glad to hear that the Methodist church does this. I confess that I've kind of had a negative stereotype of a lot of Protestant churches being ignorant about other faiths, and even to an extent, their own. It made me very wary of leaving the Episcopal church and the idea of raising my children outside the Episcopal church, but I knew how important it was to Wes for us to find a church where we could learn and grow together. I've been very pleased with the educational programs put on by the Methodists, and how inclusive the church seems to be.
• Re: Kindles...

I just got mine from my FI as an earliy Christmas present. You can definitely get lost in the digital book the same as with a paper book. The pages are easy to read - just like regular sheetsof paper. You can still read everything in the sunlight. The screen isn't backlit, so there isn't the eye strain like with computer screens.

You can mark pages, highlight, make notes, jump to different chapters, read every book downloaded onto your device. There is also a way to archive, I just haven't figure it out yet... Most of the books are reduced in price (and yes, some are free). I think the most expense book I've seen was 9.99 and the wireless download is free. There is even the option to have the book read to you. The wireless connection is what uses up the battery. Turn it off, and you can last for days.

The only problem, besides keeping the electronic device away from water, is that you have to turn it off during take-off and landing :( That is when I read over my FI's shoulder.

I love my paper books, but I think I love the kindle more.
• I went back and looked at what you said to provoke that bec, expecting it to be some wall of text or something substancially mean. It was like...a sentance. Which identified no one in particular. It was just a general statement. Which makes it just creepy pathetic that she would read that and get all "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE" over it. Sad.

So, Jessjo.. Was wading refering to you in that thread if you read someone's response about the problem blamer and automatically assumed that person was talking about you? Is that a pretty safe conclusion to come to? Because it seems that way. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: FFF : I'm perfectly OK with having a conversation about global warming. It's not really a political issue for me. I've spent the last 10 years researching and compiling data on global environmental trends, so for me it's a bit frustrating when something as complex as global climate models gets boiled down to an accusation of a "hoax." Having legitimate concerns about a scientific process is fine. Accusing this of being "made up" is a ridiculous and uneducated statement IMO. I discuss the ins and outs of this all of the time in a civilized way with my republican friends, including my FIL who is a petroleum engineer and is exposed to different information than I am because of his background. But we don't throw around words like bullshiit or accuse each other of making people feel guilty for taking 20 minute showers.

Yes, but you JUST basically called someone stupid for not believing in GW. Sure, say the girl made an uneducated statement IYO about the WEATHER, but to insult her entire education was not necessary. I'd love to see data that 100% proves that GW is a real phenomeon. I'd be will to change my mind.
Nope, I have not spent 10 years looking at weather so I am uneducated on the subject so it would be great to a have real data that says yay or nay to GW.
It's okay to want to take care of the planet. Heck, I buy cloth bags because wild aminals eat and choke plastic ones. But, I think there is a lot of false information being feed to the public.

It's probably because we totally rehashed the other night in a super long thread about Rach.

Well, THAT and the fact that Jessjo's fact aren't straight. Also, why on earth would she insult someone else fiance at this point in the game. You know why? Because she was tyring to prove that people were unfairly targeting her. Which they weren't.
