I'm thinking of buying a dress on Etsy because the prices are right and there are styles very similar (some identical) to what I have tried on and loved. Does anyone have advise about this? I'm nervous to buy a dress online from just a picture without trying it on first.
Re: Dresses on Etsy
I was recommended to someone on etsy by a bride that already got her dress from her and loved it. She had excellent reviews and works here in America, not another country. She took every measurement possible from me, sent me fabric samples, and has communicated with me through out.
Is it still risky? Yes, but I was willing to risk a little rather than buy a dress I didn't like that much. Is it for everyone? NO. It is taking a chance... but you can at least take a chance in a smart way.
Make sure the seller is from here, read their reviews, and if possible, see if you can talk to a real bride who used this person. Also, make sure the prices aren't insanely low. A dress that would normally cost thousands should not be bought for $200, you know? That's a sign that the person is using either really crappy fabrics and/or sweatshop labor.
Then be SURE of what you want. Try on dresses first to find out what looks good on you. Then make sure to give the seller accurate measurements. And be prepared to take it to an alterations person because it's common that even with all your measurements, it still may not be absolutely perfect.
Good luck!
ETA: There may be some good international sellers, just be cautious.
