Our G&T program was called Dimensions. Perhaps my elementary school also didn't want the people who were left out to fel "un-gifted." I still remember one question from the test we had to take in first grade.

And we also started spliting into different reading groups in 3rd grade and different math and reading groups in 6th grade. (There were about 5-6 classrooms in each grade in my elementary school, so there were 5-6 reading levels as well.) It was to help people learn at the same pace as their peers. No use having someone who is at an accelerated level in the same room as someone at a remedial level.
