Average beef vs. outstanding pork

We are having a family style dinner with two entrees. Initially we thought we would go the traditional route with a chicken dish and beef dish. Then we had our tasting and are conflicted.

FI loved the chicken marsala, which has a brown sauce. There is only one beef dish without paying for a major upgrade. It was only average: sliced sirloin with a brown gravy that was a little sweet and kind of reminded me of Chinese food.

FI and I both loved the breaded Sicilian pork cutlets served with a tomato garlic sauce. The rest of the menu includes, salad, pasta, Italian whipped potatoes, and green beans almondine.

The vast majority of our guest likely won't have any religious aversions to pork, but I feel like choosing pork could still be risky.

Re: Average beef vs. outstanding pork

  • i voted pork...more for the fact I don't like 2 brown gravy choices.

  • Choose the pork.  It sounds like you are offering plenty of other choices for your guests, so if they don't like pork they will have other things to choose from.

  • Another vote for pork. Also, the title of this thread is so cute.
  • I would choose the beef. It's the safer route to me. More people would probably take the beef over the pork, at least I know that I would. Even if the beef tastes average, who actually remembers how the food tastes at a wedding? I don't remember.
  • You're giving chicken as the other option, so anyone with religious/dietary oppositions can eat that. No one *needs* beef.

  • Like many of the other posters, I think chicken will be okay as a "safety" dish. If you're settled on a second meat dish and think the pork is better than the beef, go with it. If you'll be having vegetarian and/or vegan guests, though, it'd be worth it to consider a non-meat main.
  • We're having a similar issue, the beef options are really pricy and (honestly) the pork looks much tastier! So I think we'll be going with one pork, one chicken and then a vegetarian because he has a few on his side who are.  Pork, all the way!
