Snow Poll!!

Okay, the snow talk in the good morning thread inspired this.

Re: Snow Poll!!

  • LOVE snow. But only before the holidays. After Christmas is over, I start to become a little annoyed by it. Which sucks because the majority of the snow we get in a season is always after Christmas.

  • I love snow! It makes everything look pretty and I love waking up to the hush outside after a good snow fall.

  • I'll agree with you there, salt. Snow is much better at first. I get all giddy about the first snow! But once the New Year is over it does start to get old. H and I looove cross country skiing and tubing - and we have a winter sports park nearby so we plan on taking full advantage this year. He's already got the ski's out. LOL!
  • Yeah, I'm excited, except we probably won't get any this year. Cry
  • Aww sara, I can't even imagine a year without snow. I always wonder how people do it. It seems so weird to me. I love my four seasons.

Come up to Michigan! Give it about a month and we should be completely buried! :)
  • cfa- I would love, for once in my life, for work to cancel because of snow. :) If we get a massive blizzard, I'm just told to make sure I leave early.
  • I'm looking forward to the type of snow that closes my office for the day. :)
  • I really hope it decides to snow on a better day this season. Last year the storms lined up to snow on Friday nights and all the streets were cleared by Monday. I really wanted at least one day off work and it just did not happen. I'm hoping for lots of Wednesday storms this year so maybe I can work out a 4 day weekend.

  • AK, I grew up in upstate NY, where 300+ inches in a year was not unheard of. In theory I miss it, probably because I never had to drive in theshit. I'll take my "close school if there is 1/2 inch" version, thankyouverymuch.
  • If it snowed Christmas eve and christmas day and then disappeared, I'd be cool with that.

Since I live in Fargo, that just doesn't happen. I WILL SAY, that I truly don't mind the snow. It's the needles in the face cold and wind that make me hate it. And I hate it when it's all blowing around, too. Nice pretty snowfalls, I'd take all winter.

  • I only like snow if I don't HAVE to go out in it.  Like to work.  The State of Emergency we had last year for two days was heaven.

  • If I was a teacher, I'd love snow.  But my work never closes so it is a huge pain in the A$$.  Although I agree with Fishy that if it came Christmas Eve and Christmas day, then disappeared, that would be pretty awesome!

Sara - I grew up in Upstate NY too.  You must have either been from Buffalo or somewhere north of Syracuse to get that much.  I guess I'd take snow in NY over snow here in MD.  At least they know how to deal with the snow up there!

That sucks!! We thankfully survived the ice storm two winters ago. Many others weren't so lucky. I can still remember FI climbing up onto a ladder in the middle of the snow storm to try to clear the gutters because he was convinced they were going to rip off of the house. I could have had a heart attack!
  • I only like it if H is here - I am a baby about driving in bad weather, even moreso since my car slid off the road last year on ice.

But, I do love the feeling of being safe inside with a fire burning while it's snowy and cold outside.

VERY occasionally my work will have a delay but to close entirely is pretty rare.  Here's hoping, though!  And also here's hoping that if it happens, that I don't have my laptop home with me, since then I'd be expected to telework anyway.
  • Once December rolls around, we pretty much get at least a little bit of snow every day here (lake effect) until the lake freezes (IF it freezes).....  But I say, if it's gonna be cold, there might as well be snow on the ground!

  • sara- 300! We usually average about 150 inches where I live. But at our cabin up north, 300+ is typically the norm. There's nothing like literally digging your way to your car. Hehe.
  • Since I live south of Sara, even if she gets snow this year, I won't.
  • Oh this one is tricky - born and raised in Wisconsin so that part of me just LOOOOOOVES the snow.

Moving to Ohio - I hate it.  People don't drive that well anyway - add snow it's a mess!  They get a threat of snow and call off school....

Dingdingding! North of Syracuse, literally on the edge of the Tug Hill Plateau. The lake effect storm clouds would have to rise in elevation to get over the plateau, and would have to shed some weight to do so. So we got dumped on frequently.

I have lived in Buffalo my whole life so I am looking forward to a winter without much snow finally.  I think its funny that people here keep talking about what a horrible winter its going to be and we need to prepare, and I just laugh because its probably going to be nothing at all like I'm used to.  But I'll also probably get very angry if everything gets shut down over like 6 inches of snow because I'm used to getting several feet over night.

I will get my fix of snow when I go home for Christmas.  But other than being pretty I don't have much use for it.  After my last snowboarding trip landed me in surgery and with a plate and screws in my wrist, I think I'll skip that this year.

I'm from Niagara Falls.  H lived in Liverpool when we met and we had a LDR for 2 years back and forth.  The winters were not fun for driving back and forth, and i would get lectured from my mom every time I would head out to see him and there was any threat of snow.

Ooooo, Tug Hill plateau.  Every summer when we're driving past that area on our way up north I think to myself "man, I'm glad it's not February right now!"

Georgia, we are under a  freeze warning for this weekend. Too bad the rains are supposed to stop by then.
  • I love Niagara Falls in the winter! H has never been to upstate New York. I plan on taking him there, and the Finger Lakes area too. He would love it.

Yeah it is really pretty.  I love going to see the falls on a mild winter day.  But its definitely something people need to see at least once.  A few of our friends were there for the first time at our wedding and were amazed by it.

H has been... let's say... sheltered for most of his life. Whenever someone mentions "New York," all he thinks of is tall buildings and concrete. I'm still not entirely sure he believes me when I tell him there's much, much more than that. So we're going to take a road trip so I can show him.

He loves the outdoors so much, I'm almost willing to bet he will want to move there once he sees it. :)

There definitely is a lot to do outside there with the different seasons.  I love hiking at the gorge at the falls in the summer.  But then of course there is lots of snow for winter activities too.

  • I will say that I'm not looking forward to the crazy drivers in the snow. We get it on and off throughout the winter, but it's never a constant thing. So whenever it does snow, a bunch of a-holes get in their big pickup trucks or SUVs and think they can drive all fast and crazy because they have four wheel drive.

They don't understand that 4 wheel drive =/ magical tires that will keep your vehicle on the road. They only help for when you inevitably go off the road when you're driving like a maniac on unproperly salted roads and need to get out of the ditch.
  • N/A we don't get any.
