Does anyone have any wedding experiences here? Ironically enough it was the first place me and fiance saw and both hated it.. Now months later after crunching some serious numbers, I'm thinking of going back with some fresh eyes. The pricing is pretty great and the shape of the ballroom beats the Hilton Toledo. I always preferred the big open rooms to the longer, narrower ones. Just curious if anyone had some input.
Starting to lose my mind haha. My mom is excited that I'm going to look again because that was her suggestion from the start.
Re: Holiday Inn French Quarter
Why did you not like it the first time?
Keep in mind though, I saw the ballroom set up for a meeting, so maybe it would look completely different dressed up for a wedding. I'm playing phone tag with Tawnya, so I'm hoping to see it all jazzed up. I also used to work at the Frickers next door a couple of years ago and don't have fond memories haha.

I just lookd at your pricing and I was wondering have you checked out the crowne plaza? Im getting married there in August. Mine is 55 a plate for a served meal, but it includes a cake from wixy, a premium bar, a hotel suite, champagne toat for everyone and champagne ,snack, and chocolate covered strawberries in our room. It also includes 3 passed or stationed appetizers(they are goood!) instead of just fruit and veggies. oh and it includes valet parking i forgot!
My fiance's only rule was no Downtown Toledo.
Parking is included there though? I was under the impression when I spoke to Heather that parking was only included for the bride and groom.

But I have heard great things about that place. Great food, great service and great location.
[QUOTE]DON'T do the Crowne Plaza...read their reviews on Tripadvisor....they don't have air conditioning....another bride posted here last year that it was 90 degrees in their ballroom, the cake fell over (melted) and all her guests left by 9pm due to the heat.

I, too, remember this bride. She's not the only person that I have heard complain about this venue. I would definitely look into this one a little more than the other before committing to it.
I take the negativity with a grain of salt though. One person with a terrible experience is much more likely to tell everyone about it than several people with great experiences.
This place seems like a steal.
The Boys 2 Men wedding was over 10 years ago...when the hotel had great management and product. All I can say is good luck sister
[QUOTE]I dont know who Heather is! I have worked with Stacey and Terri(they are the main people) but no Heather. They DO have air conditioning What hotel doesnt? Apparently that "bride" who posted that was an EX-employee. I have had two friends who got married there recently and they both raved about the Crowne. And FYI thats where the boyz 2 men guy got married a few years back. They always get great reviews on their food too. Valet parking was included for me. I havent had any problems. My wedding is in August so I will be able to tell you then for sure. But they are the only vendor I have that I am not worried about.

Read the tripadvisor reviews. There are multiple complaints about the HVAC system from this year and last year. Obviously it's a recurring problem.
I'm not sure why you assume that the "bride" was an ex-employee. Do you think all of the trip advisor reviews were ex-employees too? Isn't it possible that someone just really had a terrible experience here? C'mon. I don't think any of us actually believe that our venue is perfect and that every bride has had an A+ experience before us.
I cannot speak for the ballroom as I have never seen it. However, there are multiple reviews about dirty, run down rooms. I can only assume that the ballroom and kitchen receive the same care. That would just make me a little nervous, that's all. I'm not saying run for the hills, I just don't want you to be blindsided on your wedding day.
And I hope it wasn't Wanya that got married there, I always thought I would marry him when I was little haha.

[QUOTE]I was told by someone at the crown that an ex employee was posting bad reviews and it all the same story. I dont really care what anyone says, I have been down there several times unexpectedly and seen their crisp clean rooms, and ballroom. We had 3 different tastings and the food was good. I havent had any problems. They AC was not a problem. My SIL had a graduation party 2 years ago and alot of people stayed at the crowne and had no problems there either. I will tell you I have had SEVERAL problems with one vendor whom I will not name or even tell you what they do and that particular vendor has only positive reviews on here. So you cant believe everything you hear. It was shawn from boys 2 men.

Is there a reason you're not sharing? I would want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly before I decided on a vendor and I'm sure other knotties would agree.

This!
The reason is because my wedding is not until August. I know vendors post on here and some just read it. I would hate to upset a vendor by putting them on blast when their job is not fully done. Plus in addition to that I would like to give them a chance to redeem themselves. Trust me when it is done I will do a full review because I do believe they are helpful.
I read the reviews prior to booking but being the only 3.5 star (the highest rated hotel in Toledo) and needing a place close to 5/3 Baseball Field I took my chances. It turned out the reviews about the air conditioning were true, upon check in around 2pm I set the A/C to 60 degrees, to be safe, and at check out the next day the temp was still around 72. Our room was clean and comfortable however the bathroom sink drain leaked, well it actually poured. The pipe had a considerably large hole that wasn't noticed unitil morning when there was water all over the bathroom floor. We informed the staff, they didn't seem to concerned, and we proceeded to check out - my boyfriend and I were over Toledo and just wanted to get home. Also, the hotel has posted quiet hours of 10pm to 10am.
At the risk of being obnoxious planning4neice, I started this thread for advice on my potential venue. Another bride was kind enough to look into the pricing and realized her package at her venue was in the same price range and made a wonderfully nice suggestion. You made your point about how you feel about Crowne, some agreed, some disagreed. I'd appreciate it if you didn't make my thread about bashing a venue that many people have had great experiences with, someone I know personally included. It's not helpful and is becoming downright rude. If these women were able to find this message board, I'd say they're smart enough to look up these reviews on their own.
Oh and CoCo'sMommy, I was told Heather was the newest planner. Supposedly she left the Toledo Hilton. She's the one I spoke with when I first looked into Crowne. She seemed incredibly nice. I bet she would have been a blast to work with (more so than the one I ended up dealing with at the Hilton before they officially replaced Heather with someone different.)
