Meal Response on Invitation

If I go with the invitation vendor I would like to use, I will have to order our invitations before the tasting. I know we are giving our guests the option of beef tenderloin, chicken, or fish, but we have not decided how they will be prepared or what kind of fish yet. Should I try to push our tasting up months earlier than they recommend. Or can I just write Beef, Chicken, or Fish on the response card??

I know as a guest I would like to know how the meal will be prepared so I could decide. But is it not necessary?

I would wait, but if you are pressed for time you can always put the basics and add more detail on your wedding website if you have one.

I say push up the tasing. I've been doing my own poll (asking co-workers, family members, etc.) regarding the same dilemma.  Most people I ask say to wait in order to add specifically how the dishes will be prepared.

I would also suggest waiting so you can give your guests more detail.  I think it helps them decide because what if they like chicken best so they pick that and it happens to be something they don't like?  I could see that happening but it's not the end of the world.  If you could, I would wait.

I know it was also fun to have the details of our menu because guests were talking about and couldn't wait for the food.

We were in the same situation last month, we had to order the invitations we wanted by a certain date. We ultimately knew what we wanted to serve, sirloin and salmon. However, the details of how each are going to be prepared isn't going to be decided until our tasting 6 or 7 weeks before the wedding. We decided to just put basic choices "New York Sirloin" "Salmon" "Vegetarian" on the RSVP card. We will figure out the specifics later.

What about if you order the invitations now, and then later you could add a menu card into the invitation that explains what the meal choices are? That is what we did!

We are in a similar situation and all we are including on our RSVP card is filet mignon, chicken or salmon.  Honestly, this is standard as far as the weddings that I have received invitations for so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I think the basics woulda cause any issues.

I prefer to know how each will be prepared and especially what kind of fish it is. Like others said, it's not a big deal, but I can definitely see how it could be annoying for guests. I like the idea of ordering the invites now and having the menu/rsvp cards printed later, although it might not work fiscally.

I agree with Karen's MOH....I think that knowing the type of fish is important because some people like certain kinds of fish but not others.  We committed to Salmon before our tasting so that we could include the type of fish on the RSVP card so let's hope that we like it!!  I don't think that you really need to tell someone how chicken or steak will be prepared unless you are doing something "different" to it that would be unexpected.
